Board is sluggish today.

Reading and Posting is downright painful. It just sits there for 30 seconds before opening a thread. Saving is even worse. No time outs so far, but it has to be right on the edge.

Is the database full again? Its acting like you’re writing to overflow pages. Thats going to be extremely slow. Overflow is sequential access.

Maybe you need to feed the hamsters more?

I don’t know if this is the same problem, but in order to avoid redundant threads - going to the last post seems a bit broken. It doesn’t always display the true last poster, but the one the post before or the post before that. I’ve clicked on the last poster to go there, and ended up at the OP or the next page from that. Slowness issues as well?

And the “You last visited” screwups are happening more and more often.

The jump to new posts function has never ever worked properly for me.

Not only that, I’m seeing only the 1st post in all threads. No respond button either, had to hit quote.

That’s happened a couple times to me too. Only the first message in the thread appears. I just exit the forum and reenter the thread. It usually loads right the 2nd time.

Same for me only the first post showed earlier and refreshing or reloading didn’t help.

What do you mean “today”?

This happens when the hamsters take vacation (or take ill, or go out on strike) and these guys fill in for them.

Guess they’re off trick or treating, the little costume wearing so and sos. (One of them is dressed like Cecil. Very funny.)

We’ll keep an eye on the situation. If you see more of this, please let us know.

They need to get bigger hamsters.

Didnt know they made mortarboards that small…
Just posted into a thread on my Android{tm} device. Fast as usual.

What the heck?

My first recollection of the name Cecil was that sock puppet with Beany.

Who would, of course, have been instabanned on this board.

I’m using IE 11, and haven’t changed anything…but, suddenly, I have to log back in every time I visit, where, up to now, the board recognized me as being logged in. I always check the “remember me” box, but, as of about two days ago, I’m no longer being remembered.

Also: I’ll go to a forum, and see the list of topics in chronological order as of which have been most recently posted to. I’ll pick one – say, number 6 on the list – and post. Then I use the browser’s back-arrow twice.

Up to about two days ago, the list of topics would be unchanged. But now, it’s dynamically updating. The thread I just posted to has jumped up to the top – naturally, it’s the one most recently changed. The whole order has changed, as people may have been posting while I was composing my post.

This is a bummer, as I was using the list as a check-list, walking right down it to read and comment. Now, I’m at risk of missing a thread, which may have jumped up to above where I am scrolling down.

What’s happened? (And…like…if this is the worst thing that happens to me this week, it’s a darn fine week!)

Here is my anecdotal evidence to add to the mix:

The behavior the OP describes happens to me frequently, both at work and at home (cable connection), and has for several months I think. When I click to open a forum or a thread, it will often just hang and not open for up to a minute (when I lose patience); if I cancel and then click on it again, sometimes it will open right away, or sometimes I have to do that two or three times to get it to open. For threads, it seems to happen more often when I click on the go-to-first-unread button than if I just click on the beginning of the thread, or on a specific page.

I too have noticed that the go-to-first-unread function or the last-time-visited function (which seem to be two sides of the same function) often fails, for visit gaps up to several hours (not usually for longer than that, never overnight).

I’m not really complaining, just offering more information if it helps.

On a DSL here at work. The homepage loads nicely, but for the past week or so any links have been sluggish at best and timing out at worst.

This has been happening to me for months, and it’s only more frequent. It even happens sometimes when I’m posting a reply. Something definitely needs a spruce up.
