Board Oddities

Recently, more often than not, whenever I go to the board, it doesn’t recognize the cookies I put in. So I have to login again, but whenever I leave the board and return, I have to login once more. It used to be that I stayed logged in as myself through a few days; now that is no longer the case.

I can deal with that, but for some reason, whenever I go to the board, it shows the wrong time and date! (I’m still logged in as myself, so no problems there) For example, I just went to this forum now, and the little thing that shows the time and date insisted it was Mar. 30, 2002 at 12:22 PM. (-8 GMT, which is what I’m using, but still…)

After I post this, I hope the board software realizes that it’s 10:10 PM on Apr. 1st!

[li]Did you read the FAQ thread about why you could get logged off unexpectedly? If you do everything in there and are still getting logged off, then the problem needs to be fixed on the client side. You would need to provide the information specified in that FAQ.[/li][li]The way it’s supposed to work: If you are not logged in, the time displayed will be GMT. If you are logged in, the time displayed will be Chicago time (SDMB custom default) unless you have changed it in your user preferences.[/li]
I read the FAQ thread, and I think I’ve done everything… I don’t know what it is, though. It’s even done that (just now) on the other computer that I use regularly, which is even faster than my home computer! (way faster) Of course, relative computer speed doesn’t have anything to do with it, but still I wonder.

I’m having some login issues, too. Trying to post this reply was a good example - I log in, wait while I look at the “Thank you for logging in, seawitch” page, and get taken directly to the login form. Sometimes getting to the reply page takes me 5 or 6 logins, one after another. Sometimes it only takes one.

(Yes, I did set the preferences to accept cookies. ) What the heck could this be?

When I go read the FAQ on this very issue, I see the following:

For more help, you can ask in ATMB. Specify at the least the following:
[li]Name of web browser and version[/li][li]Operating system and version[/li][li]Are you connecting to the internet through a proxy?[/li][li]What are your settings for “Automatically login when you return to the site?” and “Browse board with cookies?”[/li][li]In your web browser, look in the preferences/options/settings menu and list the values and descriptions of all values having to do with cookies.
[/li]
N.B. The immediately preceding post was for seawitch.

All righty. Netscape 3.0 - Windows 2000 - no proxy - “yes” to both using cookies to browse and automatically logging in.

I did read the FAQ first, but it really didn’t address my issue - I haven’t seen anyone else mention going straight from “thank you for logging in” to the page asking me to log in. Over and over and over.

seawitch - the first thing I would suggest would be trying a more recent browser, such as Netscape 4.7 (at the least) or Netscape 6.2
