Bob Edwards out as host of "Morning Edition"

Sorry to hijack, but oh, MAN! Tell me about it. I remember that when I first saw Garrison Keillor’s picture I wondered if there had been some kind of mistake…

Anyway, I think it’s kind of sad, but change happens. It feels like many of the public radio hosts I’ve known since I was a little kid have suddenly started leaving or dying off in the past few years. Ray Suarez left Talk of the Nation, Christopher Lyden got booted from The Connection, and local host Dick Pleasants just left WGBH, the most prominent local NPR station. Particularly saddening was the death of local blues host Mae Kramer from cancer a couple of years ago. I miss hearing her voice late on Saturday nights.

On the other hand, has anybody heard the kooky world-music and spirituality show Sound and Spirit? Ellen Kushner (if that’s how you spell her name) truly sets my teeth on edge. I can’t stand her.

Check out npr.org for full details. National Public Radio (NPR) is the US’s major public radio network, which produces and distributes programming to a horde of member stations across the country. Their major programs are Morning Edition and All Things Considered, 2-hour news programs broadcast in the morning and afternoon, respectively.

Other programs, like Prairie Home Companion, may be broadcast on some (or many) NPR stations but are produced by Public Radio International, the other major public radio producer in the US.

Does that do it, or do you need more? I’m running out of off-the-top-of-my-head expertise.
