Today is Bob Edwards’ last day as host/anchor of the Morning Edition program on NPR. After 24 1/2 years in that role, he has been ‘reassigned’ by the producer of the show. What a great loss. He is one of my favorites on show, and I’ve been waking up to his voice for years. My morning rituals will feel different.
Yes, I know he’s going to continue to be on the show periodically, as a ‘senior correspondent’ or something like that, doing profiles and such things, but I’m going to miss him.

Good, long Bob Edwards article from yesterday’s Washington Post: Bob Edwards & the Remains of the Day
I listen to Morning Edition every day on my way to work. I love Bob Edwards; it’s not going to be the same without him. Today, as I listened to him, I was sad knowing it would be the last time. He was interviewing Ted Koppel, and Ted said some really nice words about him, and wished him farewell, it was sad. He said something like, now you won’t have to get up so early! And he asked what time he had to be up for the show, and Bob said he had to get up at 1 am every day! Wow! Anyway, I can’t believe they got rid of him, that is a real shame.
