Bobbitchin' on lead šŸŽø

In this thread http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=847930

I nominated myself:eek: for world’s most underrated guitarist ,and walked into a friendly ā€œGo ahead and post a link.ā€:smack::smiley:
I made a joke, declined, and shut up:rolleyes::cool:

Mrs Bitchin’ laughed and said time to put up or shut up…and she’s right.
As posted in the other thread I’m not thrilled with my performance but for all I’ve done it’s the only recording I have.

One of the other band members has hours of footage, from jams, practices, gigs etc. He sent me this one video six years ago and then nothin.
I’m hoping views and likes might get him off his duff. If it does I’ll post all of it. Some might like it, others may crap themselves silly, but very few will be as disappointed as my parents are.

Last note, this is not my YouTube account, but I have to assume it’s either my bandmate or a friend of his, so I’m assuming if it gets traffic, he’ll get the message.

Remember help me make some noise and possibly reclaim some of my art…if I get it I’ll let you point and laugh.

I’d sure like to know how the hell you made that little guitar icon on your thread title.

I’m using a smart phone, and above the keyboard where it guesses what word I’m spelling, it throws icons/smiles.
Lemme try one here

:guitar:
:flags:
:raised_hand:

Just type a word and stuff comes up. Now gimme a like and a comment.:stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for sharing. The recording is not optimal, but I get a sense for how it sounded live and it’s cool. So wait - ā€œleadā€ - so your the Flying V? Or the what-appears-to-a-Music Man, maybe an EVH? Either way the guitars sound good and balanced in the mix with the vocal and the playing is great.

I just did some guide tracks for my drummer, I may post a couple in the GOGT.

Thank you for the kind words, man

:smack: yeah, I’m the guy with the V (91custom shop:cool:) first lead.
The one that starts out tentative and oh so outa tune.
The other guitarist wrote it before we met…it was just everything I wasn’t.

If I get more videos, I’ll be gushing over those leads:rolleyes: this was my fish out water moment:D

Nice V, man. And dude, live recordings always preserve the slop. It’s all good!

With you starting this thread, and another thread where I was discussing my tone with heavy gauge strings, I decided to share some guide track clips I just recorded for my drummer. They are over in the GOGT: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?p=20752324#post20752324

Cool stuff Bob!

Thanks. I haven’t shown anything to anyone in a long time ( I had an old vhs tape of a gig)
I’ve had a difficult time coming to grips with lots of my past and how I feel about music and my music.
I ve been hiding out in Podunk for a few decades, haven’t done more that half a dozen gigs.
I think I’m sticking a toe in the water tonight.

Thanks man. I didn’t realize what path I started on by posting in the Unappreciated thread.

I’m very grateful for the push from Mrs Bitchin’ and those here.

Hey - best of luck! Refinding your original love of music, separate from who you were in prior years, is always a great thing. It takes work to get smooth again, but the right performances help it along.

Nice work, Bob! What was the last line on your shirt? Was it ā€œNuthinā€™ā€?

Hey thanks Bo.

The shirt says ā€œDON’T ASK ME 4 SHITā€
And that prompted every idiot to walk up and say…
ā€œHey man, can I have some shitā€?

It was an homage to my teacher, who wore the same type of shirts onstage.
My fave?

ā€œTHE WHITE BOY IS OFF BEATā€. and ā€œDON’T BE A PUSSYā€

From a distance, you bear more than a passing resemblance to Dimebag, especially since you’re rocking the V.

I heard that alot back then. We ran in the same circles, we knew each other, but his last year playin in the clubs was my first year playin inthe clubs.
So we didn’t see much of each other, except for a random party or industry thing (guitar shows, clinics etc)

He was the biggest thing since sliced bread, I was just some guy who played guitar.

Hahahahaha! I grew up in Arlington*, but don’t remember Fatso’s.

I like your lead a lot, even if you’re not fond of it. It’s perfectly competent, and moves everything along nicely. The other guitarist’s tone and heavy chorus kind of ruin it for me, but it was a different era.

*I remember Metal Magic era Pantera, which forever colored my perception of them.

You ain’t shittin’. He was my favorite metal player. Nobody sounded like him.

Nice chops. This was 1992-1994ish?

I think it’s so easy to get into the rhythm where you jam together, maybe record occasionally but not with a ā€œthis is going to be a serious recordingā€ attitude, and never quite move behind the just-having-fun modality and try to do something with it. Not that there’s anything wrong with having fun. Playing should be. Anyway, good on you for putting it out there and letting us hear it.

Thank for the compliments.
Fatso’s burgers and blues, is what it was called. We played there twice.
I have no idea if it was a landmark, or just there for a few years.

The other guitarist was playing thru a CRATE solid state stack. He shopped by price and size, left his ears at home. I went shopping with him and he disregarded everything I said. ( Hey I was young and dumb too, but I had a vintage Marshall stack)

I saw Pantera for the first time at the Basement just after Metal Magic came out. Terry was still singing. They were opening on a Tuesday night or something.

I talked to them after the show ( I was 15/16)
Terry didn’t wanna talk,
Darrell basically wanted to get to the bar(surprise)
Vinnie was extra cool, I think he suspected I busted ass to get in there.(Texas was 18/19 to drink till 1986.my 18th bday)this must have been summer off 83-84.

Spandex, hair spray the whole 9…but boy did it change.

Good times.

UPDATE:
The YouTube channel the video is owned by the author of the lyrics.

He was a writting partner to the other guitarist, and I don’t know if I ever met him.

I’ve reached out to him and invited him here to post the lyrics and anything else he wants.

I don’t know if he and Brent (the guitarist/music writter) are in touch, or what’s available as far as more footage, but let’s cross our fingers.

Yeah, that’s kind of what I meant. Back then, I had a singer who played through a cranked Gorilla practice amp. Lots of cheap solid state running around back then, some of them sounded good if you set them right. Most did not set them right.

Yeah, no matter how heavy they got, part of my brain kept (and keeps) saying, ā€œBut you guys used to be those candy-assed guys. The ones who were handing out flyers at Jack in the Box. You didn’t even change the name!ā€ Ahhh, familiarity.

I came for the music, I stayed for the mullets. Bitchin’ indeed!
