I nominated myself:eek: for worldās most underrated guitarist ,and walked into a friendly āGo ahead and post a link.ā:smack:
I made a joke, declined, and shut up:rolleyes:
Mrs Bitchinā laughed and said time to put up or shut upā¦and sheās right.
As posted in the other thread Iām not thrilled with my performance but for all Iāve done itās the only recording I have.
One of the other band members has hours of footage, from jams, practices, gigs etc. He sent me this one video six years ago and then nothin.
Iām hoping views and likes might get him off his duff. If it does Iāll post all of it. Some might like it, others may crap themselves silly, but very few will be as disappointed as my parents are.
Last note, this is not my YouTube account, but I have to assume itās either my bandmate or a friend of his, so Iām assuming if it gets traffic, heāll get the message.
Remember help me make some noise and possibly reclaim some of my artā¦if I get it Iāll let you point and laugh.
Thanks for sharing. The recording is not optimal, but I get a sense for how it sounded live and itās cool. So wait - āleadā - so your the Flying V? Or the what-appears-to-a-Music Man, maybe an EVH? Either way the guitars sound good and balanced in the mix with the vocal and the playing is great.
I just did some guide tracks for my drummer, I may post a couple in the GOGT.
:smack: yeah, Iām the guy with the V (91custom shop:cool:) first lead.
The one that starts out tentative and oh so outa tune.
The other guitarist wrote it before we metā¦it was just everything I wasnāt.
If I get more videos, Iāll be gushing over those leads:rolleyes: this was my fish out water moment:D
Thanks. I havenāt shown anything to anyone in a long time ( I had an old vhs tape of a gig)
Iāve had a difficult time coming to grips with lots of my past and how I feel about music and my music.
I ve been hiding out in Podunk for a few decades, havenāt done more that half a dozen gigs.
I think Iām sticking a toe in the water tonight.
Thanks man. I didnāt realize what path I started on by posting in the Unappreciated thread.
Iām very grateful for the push from Mrs Bitchinā and those here.
Hey - best of luck! Refinding your original love of music, separate from who you were in prior years, is always a great thing. It takes work to get smooth again, but the right performances help it along.
I heard that alot back then. We ran in the same circles, we knew each other, but his last year playin in the clubs was my first year playin inthe clubs.
So we didnāt see much of each other, except for a random party or industry thing (guitar shows, clinics etc)
He was the biggest thing since sliced bread, I was just some guy who played guitar.
Hahahahaha! I grew up in Arlington*, but donāt remember Fatsoās.
I like your lead a lot, even if youāre not fond of it. Itās perfectly competent, and moves everything along nicely. The other guitaristās tone and heavy chorus kind of ruin it for me, but it was a different era.
*I remember Metal Magic era Pantera, which forever colored my perception of them.
I think itās so easy to get into the rhythm where you jam together, maybe record occasionally but not with a āthis is going to be a serious recordingā attitude, and never quite move behind the just-having-fun modality and try to do something with it. Not that thereās anything wrong with having fun. Playing should be. Anyway, good on you for putting it out there and letting us hear it.
Thank for the compliments.
Fatsoās burgers and blues, is what it was called. We played there twice.
I have no idea if it was a landmark, or just there for a few years.
The other guitarist was playing thru a CRATE solid state stack. He shopped by price and size, left his ears at home. I went shopping with him and he disregarded everything I said. ( Hey I was young and dumb too, but I had a vintage Marshall stack)
I saw Pantera for the first time at the Basement just after Metal Magic came out. Terry was still singing. They were opening on a Tuesday night or something.
I talked to them after the show ( I was 15/16)
Terry didnāt wanna talk,
Darrell basically wanted to get to the bar(surprise)
Vinnie was extra cool, I think he suspected I busted ass to get in there.(Texas was 18/19 to drink till 1986.my 18th bday)this must have been summer off 83-84.
Spandex, hair spray the whole 9ā¦but boy did it change.
UPDATE:
The YouTube channel the video is owned by the author of the lyrics.
He was a writting partner to the other guitarist, and I donāt know if I ever met him.
Iāve reached out to him and invited him here to post the lyrics and anything else he wants.
I donāt know if he and Brent (the guitarist/music writter) are in touch, or whatās available as far as more footage, but letās cross our fingers.
Yeah, thatās kind of what I meant. Back then, I had a singer who played through a cranked Gorilla practice amp. Lots of cheap solid state running around back then, some of them sounded good if you set them right. Most did not set them right.
Yeah, no matter how heavy they got, part of my brain kept (and keeps) saying, āBut you guys used to be those candy-assed guys. The ones who were handing out flyers at Jack in the Box. You didnāt even change the name!ā Ahhh, familiarity.
