Wow…1 hit shut out…the Mets win!! Hey Crispyfrog…you ready for a great NLCS?
Forget the NLCS…Looks like I might get that Subway Series I’ve been waiting a lifetime for.
Go Yanks!
Go Mets!
I was under the impression that God would strike you down if you said these words in that order…
::CRASH::
THespos? are you ok? can you hear me???
Sorry, I can’t hear you. I’m distracted by the throngs of happy New York baseball fans.
Although my name is Crunchy Frog, I’ll assume you were talking to me.
This series has me a little nervous. The Cards didn’t play well against the Mets during the regular season until the last series they played each other. I’m not expecting the Mets to go down in 4 games (of course I never expected the Braves to go down in 3!) and I can only hope Bobby Jones doesn’t pitch that well against us.
But for now I’ll take 1985’s old rallying cry:
The Mets are pond scum!
(Man, St Louis sure was dorky back in '85. They used to print up T-shirts with that witty little gem printed on them.)
Pond scum? That’s gonna look awful weird on a World Series Victory Parade float.
tearing up old phone books to use as confetti
New York has a 50/50 shot. Prepare the champagne and the kegerator!
THespos, while I attempting to be funny in my post, there was a bit of a point to it. You are honestly the first person I’ve met who is a Yankee fan and doesn’t hate the mets (and viceversa). Are there more like you?
And if it goes to a NYY/NYM World Series, then who would you pull for?
Hey, I didn’t make up the “Mets are pond scum” thing. I was all of 12 in 1985. There was a rivalry between the two teams (I think we were in the same division back then).
And New York has a 50/50 shot? Well yeah, they’ll either [sub]win[/sub] or they’ll LOSE.
Mouthbreather - I grew up out east on Long Island. My dad was from North Bergen in New Jersey. Growing up, I was always a Yankee fan, but also rooted for the Mets. I loved going to Yankee games, but I went to my share of Met games too. There are many like me, mostly from LI like myself.
Crunchy Frog - My 50/50 thing was referring to the city of New York, not the Mets in particular. The Mets and the Yankees make up 50% of the teams still left, so our fair city has a 50/50 shot at winning it all, so to speak.
If there’s a subway series, there will be some serious partying going on, so I’m rooting for both teams.
The more things change, the more they stay the same…

Crispy…crunchy…whatever…:: It’s still gonna be a great series.Let me tell you, that Jim Edmunds scares the hell outta me.Did he single handedly crush the Braves,or what?Your pitching doesn’t worry me much, but your middle batting order does.St Louis is fastteam, you guys have alot of speed and we have a catcher that can’t throw out ANYONE.(12.7% of base stealers were gunned down by the mighty Mike Piazza, worst in baseball for a starting catcher)
I know Tony La russa is gonna run on us with impunity.I think the key to the series is our pitching keeping you guys off base enough for our offense to keep up with yours.
Good luck Crisp…er…Crunchyfrog
Yeah, the good pitchers can do that to us. Like future hall-of-famer Greg Maddux . . . oh, right, 5 runs off him.
Well, then there’s Cy Young candidates like Tom Glavine . . . damn, that’s right, he did worse than Maddux in the series.
Oh well, good luck keeping the Cards off the basepaths.
Now Now Crunchy…Lets not get Too cocky…yet. The Mets also beat the tar outta Maddox and Glavine…as a matter of fact we beat Maddux all three times we faced him.I think you should worry about your pitching.Maybe ankiel will actually FIND the plate in post season.
dork
I cheer for both of the New York teams and both of the Chicago teams. I prefer the Cubs way more than all the other teams, but I want to see the teams from those cities do well.
Mets vs. Yankees
A first grade teacher explains to her class that she is a Yankees fan. She asks her students to raise their hands if they were Yankee fans also, not really knowing what a Yankees fan is but wanting to be just like their teacher, their hands exploded into the air like fleshy fireworks.
There is, however, one exception, a girl named Lucy, who did not go along with the crowd. The teacher asks her why she has decided to be different. “Because I’m not a Yankees fan”.
The, asks the teacher, What are you? “Why I’m proud to be a Mets fan” boasts the little girl.
The teacher is a little perturbed now, her face slightly red. She asks Lucy why she is a Mets fan.
“Well, my dad and mom are Mets fans and I’m a Mets fan too”
The teacher now becomes angry, “That’s no reason” she says loudly, “What if your mom was a moron and your dad was a moron. What would you be then?”
“Well, says Lucy, then I’d be a Yankees fan!”
Go METS!!!!! Proud Mets fan since 1969.
Crunchy,
Check Maddux's postseason record. He's the pitcher equivalent of Barry Bonds.
Granted, one-legged epileptic grandmothers can steal on Piazza.

Ankiel is a rookie playing the first game of the postseason, he was a little nervous, he’ll settle down. What I’m worried about is Stephenson’s elbow, Benes’s knee, and Hentgen’s ERA.
and spluurtaf, I’m born and raised in St Louis, I was here in '85 also. Admit it, “The Mets are pond scum” is a dorky rallying cry. What kind of lame-ass insult is that?
One win down,three ta go.
I tip my hat to the Cardinals. They are a class act.A very good ball club that ran into some fielding and pitching problems in the post season. The fans should be very proud of them, and the team should hold their heads up high. The Cardinals demolished the Braves, something the Mets have been unable to do. GREAT JOB CARDS!
