Boiled Peanuts. I love them. How about you?

This. Tried them during a visit to SC in my teens. Ugh!

And this. I LOVE freshly roasted peanuts but don’t even like my peanuts to be slightly soft due to age, or humidity.

…Suck all the juice out??? WTH? Juice? In PEANUTS?? That’s just all kinds of wrong!
I think I just threw up a little in my mouth! (Where’s that PUKE smilie when you need him?) :stuck_out_tongue:

Boiled peanuts are absolutely horrible, vile and disgusting. I sometimes see them in the can in stores and I always shudder at the thought of how much more vomit-inducing they would be out of a can.

I love boiled peanuts. I boil them with salt, they taste awesome.

Hey now Doc, ease that eyebrow down a smidgen. When you go after a thick watery stew of peanuts in shells, and they’re soft and oogey and smell horrific, a fork is advisable. Trust me.

Yeah, in the shells. What the hell, they need to be shelled when soft, warm, stinky and oogey? There’s a delicacy inside? Really?

Sorry. You can keep them boiled, I adore them dry roasted and unsalted.

UNsalted… UN Salted… as in NO SALT?!?

You actually came back to a peanut thread trying to redeem yourself from admitting you ate boiled peanuts with a fork and than said you enjoy roasted peanuts WITHOUT salt?!?

Doc… feel free to get that eyebrow up just as high as it can possibly go.

Yeah, I’m not sure what you’re describing **Cartooniverse. ** The boiled peanuts I’m used to would never be eaten with a fork. I’m sorry you had an unpleasant experience with them.

I really do need to order some online and get to boiling. My craving can not be satisfied with anything else. Maybe I’ll offer them at our deli and start a new craze in California.

When I transplanted to the Deep South (GA) from Colorado, I had my first experience with boiled peanuts. I had no idea what to expect, but it wasn’t the weird, mushy, briny, soggy thing I put in my mouth. I almost gagged, spit it out, and chalked it up as one of those weird ass things southerners decide they have to eat as a dare. Later that day, a Georgia native I’d befriended laughed at me, and guessed correctly I’d tried to eat the shell, which I had, because hey, it was part of the slimy soggy mess. I still swore them off - there was no way I wanted any part of them.

Then, oddly, about a month and a half later, in the dead of summer after a long hot day working outside and sweating like a madman, I got a strong, almost undeniable urge to try them again. The craving was intense, and crazy! I broke down and got some from a road side vendor, the entire time wondering what the hell I thought I was doing. I tentatively took one, sucked on it for a bit. Mmmm, briny goodness. I cracked it open, and sucked out the insides…which, knowing now what to expect, were alot like the texture of beans. Mmmmm salty peanut goodness.

And damned if I wasn’t hooked from that point forward.

They really must put crack in them or something.

Love 'em. Best when the peanuts aren’t fully ripe but I’ll take them however I can get them.

Love them. So long as you don’t go crazy with the salt, it tastes naturally sweet and delicious.
