I hated this episode. It seemed like a live version of “Scooby Doo” with its simplistic script and over-the-top creepy janitor. The stereotypical cheerleader-who-won’t-leave-high-school and love triangle with the hunky football player have all been done to death, and I believe they’ve even been done on the show! Even the opening scene with the two girls kissing was badly done. Why again were maggots all over the girl’s face? Gratuitous and stupid.
The dance scene, which was supposed to be funny, I suppose, fell flat because the camera was too close. But where have I seen that before? Oh yes. Boreanaz had a scene dancing badly as Angel, but it was funny.
Temperance cozying up to Booth after rejecting him a week ago was confusing and out of character.
Oh, and hint: People don’t put up cheesy decorations for class reunions. Someone is confusing homecoming dances with class reunions.
Am I the only one who didn’t realize that Brennan and Emily are supposed to be the same age? I was shocked when I saw the “class of 94” banner because I assumed that the character was supposed to be older than the actress playing her, like Dana Scully being four years older than Gillian Anderson.
I find it hard to believe that Temperance would have been that unpopular in high school, no matter how socially maladjusted she was. Good-looking girls will always be popular with the teenage boys.
No poll? I liked the awkward for Booth but fulfillment of lost teenage moment for Bones moment when they danced.
The final solution was very cheesy, as was the janitor slash Freddy Krueger stuff. But I think it was supposed to be. I did love the way they played Temperance as having this creepy mentor but that she found then and now to be totally normal. And that she enjoyed doing random animal dissections as a teen.
Also loved the making way for a Angela-Hodgins renewal even if it wreaks a little of Moonlighting Booger+Depesto getting married before Addie and Willis could get it together…
She didn’t look as glamorous in her yearbook picture, but she was still quite lovely, especially for a teenager. I seriously doubt that anyone who looked like her would have been utterly unpopular, especially among teenage boys.
I enjoyed it. Yeah, it was silly but every once in a while those kind of episodes are fun.
I disagree about good looking girls automatically being popular. I graduated with a couple of girls who were stunning but just plain weird and weren’t popular at all.
The photo itself may not be flattering, but one can still see that the young Temperance Brennan had delicate features and a certain beauty about her. If I were too look at a photo like that, I’d conclude that the girl was exceptionally pretty but could stand to smile more.
There’s a middle ground between being popular and being utterly unpopular. I don’t doubt that she could have been completely unpopular among teenage girls, but I can’t imagine that she would have been completely unpopular amongst the males. Teenage boys are, after all, teenage boys. I’ve found that they’re willing to overlook a great deal for the same of a pretty face and/or a shapely figure.
I didn’t see the episode so please forgive my uninformed speculation, but when a high school girl complains about her popularity or lack thereof, she isn’t necessarily talking about being popular with boys only. As a Buffy reference, think Cordelia and her Cordettes. I find it easy to believe young Temperance wouldn’t have been any too popular with that crowd.
Given that we recently found out that Angela writes the romantic subplots to Bones’ novels, are you sure? I don’t think a teenage Bones would have had a clue how to interact with male classmates.
Doesn’t matter. Again, we’re talking about teenaged boys here. A girl who knows how to respond well would doubtlessly be more popular, but as far as hormone-driven boys are concerned, a pretty face is still a pretty face.
