Bones returns! Thursday 2/5 at 8:00

And Booth is being held hostage by a serial killer.

And the show is filled with too many inanities. I really liked this show until these last three episodes, all of which go beyond substandard to the level of active suckitude. Sigh. :frowning:

What the hell was that crap? That episode was awful even by **Bones **standards. I don’t watch the show for it’s scientific plausibilities, but it’s a guilty pleasure show with usually interesting cases. But tonight’s episode was just plain bad.

Remind me who the Gravedigger was again? I thought I had seen all of **Bones **episodes, but I don’t remember anyone being buried alive. Was that from a few years ago?

Yes, Season 2 Episode 9. The team is investigating a case of some children who had been buried alive and died years earlier, and Bones and Hodgins get buried thus in a car. Of course, there had been no mention of the Gravedigger between then and now.

So what’s the deal - are we supposed to believe that ghosts are real in the Bones-iverse?

And I’ve always thought the “Cocky” buckle one of the least believable and least endearing aspects of Booth.

I’d been waiting for them to revisit the gravedigger. Tho the manner in which they did was a disappointment.

THe only thing I got out of that show last night is the overwhelming desire to hit someone with a briefcase like that one day.

Was that awesome, or what?

Ha! Yes that was the one part I thoroughly enjoyed!

Ah, thanks. I had thought it was related to that whole Zack/cannibal/serial killer thing until no one in the show mentioned him.

Yeah, really. That last scene really annoyed me. I get it, Booth was hallucinating, I have no problem with that, but then to have Bones interact with the “ghost” as well? Completely idiotic.

You know, I used to really like Bones - I thought the characters were genuine and engaging.

Now they all seem like cardboard cutouts. This episode felt really flat, even though Booth was kidnapped, I was just bored.

I think the show has run out of its alloted portion of goodness. (Which of course probably means it will run for another 5 years.)

That was horrible. God. Bones interacting with Boothe’s brother was awful, not even remotely believable. No one was even slightly rational. Everything they “solved” was random crap pulled out of a magic bag.

Pity. The gravedigger was a really interesting adversary the first time around. Just like Gormogan, they completely squander a good villain. Compare this to the breathtaking suspense of the first buried alive episode, and it’s like watching a different show.

I just caught up on DVR.

I think it was pretty clear that this was originally written to be a major storyline arcing over several episodes, but for some reason it was boiled down into just one episode. The result was a jerky, rushed, half-baked mess. The drama, the emotion, the connection with each other and with the audience was left on the editing room floor. They tried to leave the meat of the story, but the holes were so wide that you could drive a semi through them. And the tangential storylines, which could have been interesting had they been fleshed out, were completely obliterated. For instance, I imagine there was much more written about Booth’s brother’s involvement, which could have been an entire episode on its own, but it was axed.

I theorize that the reason they macheted the story was because Fox moved Bones to another night and they decided to offer up some self-contained episodes so that potential new viewers could jump right in. For some reason, TBTP believe that stories involving arcs over several episodes are risky for drawing new people. Unfortunately, if any new viewer tuned in on 2/5, I can safely conclude that they will never tune in again.

Wow I didn’t believe y’all but you were right, that was really really bad. I mean, it was kind of entertaining in spots, and they filled it with things that you’d think would appeal to Bones fans (gravedigger, Booth’s brother, some. shipping). But it was so full of cliches and tropes and pulling shit out of their asses and shallow characterizations. I kept thinking the whole episode that it was a dream episode, which would have made everything make sense, but alas it was not. Did they recently fire the entire writing staff and hire monkeys with typewriters?
