Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 55 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 85 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Rain is allegedly movin’ in tonight and tomorrow. We shall see. Today I need to work on spiffin’ da cave but also should go and get more pine straw to put out at the church house. I suppose I could do that this mornin’ but I don’t wanna! However I suppose I should adult up and get it done.
OK, as to the post title, I know some of us do up Hallowe’en, have parties, welcome the little candy beggars etc. but we don’t. No trick or treaters in the 'hood for one thing so ‘twill be lights out on Thursday night here at da cave. There will be a joint “Trunk or Treat” with the Methodist church just down the road from the church house Wednesday evenin’. We shall not participate, cause as I have already noted, we’re Hallowe’en Grinches. So what’s everybody else up to for the festivities? AIR Hallowe’en is pretty much an Amurrkin thing, so Mumpers from other countries feel free to chime in on the silliness of it all. Or not.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, I suppose I should act all adult, purtify, don bein’ about the public attire, go get the dang pine straw and get it put down. Le Sigh. Adultery is so hard!
It’s a still dark 46 degrees here, supposed to be N.O.S. with a high of 66.
I have a load of sheets in the washer, I plan on hanging them outside when I get back from the park.
If they don’t dry all the way I can put them in the dryer.
I don’t know what I’m doing for Halloween. It will depend on the weather. If it’s nice out I’ll probably sit out front and hand out candy. If not, then it’s lights out and I’m staying inside.
The only other thing, I may change the daycare day from Hump Day to Thorsday, if the daycare is doing Halloween photos again this year. They will dress your dog up and take a photo with a Halloween background. It costs $5 per dog and the proceeds go to their rescue.
We got a pretty good picture of Ripple last year, surprising because it was his first day there. You can tell he was nervous about it, but then, it is a Halloween pic.
I need to order groceries today to pick up tomorrow. Also should go up to the attic and see if I have any boxes to give to the neighbors. They are moving this week.
Which is a whole other story in itself.
Our neighborhood consists mainly of houses on 3-acre lots, tho a few of the lots are much larger. As you might imagine, things are pretty spread out - some houses can’t be seen from the street. Our first Halloween here 15 years ago, I decorated and bought candy, and fewer than 20 kids showed up, several driven in cars or ATVs! After that, we always had at least 1 dog in the household, so we didn’t decorate and the lights were left out. That’ll be the case this year. Plus rain is forecast, so there’s that.
As for today - I’ll do some grocery shopping and I have 2 bags of too-big clothes to take to the thrift store. Roxy and I will have a day of errands. Sun is promised, which is a bonus!
However, my Nats lost again last night, so I still haz a sad. It’s like they’ve quit playing for the season.
I live in a townhouse community and get very few trick or treaters. T or T hours are 4-7pm with a few stragglers. I won’t be home til 6 or 6:30 which is good because I’ve gotten into the Hallowe’en candy… There is a rumor of rain/snow mix Wednesday/Thursday so I may not get any kids. Saturday night is the barn costume party. I’m going as The Crazy Cat Lady. I have pj bottoms with cat print. I will wear a sweatshirt with stuffed animal kitties pinned to it, and a headband with black cat ears on springs. I found a pair of harlequin sunglasses at a garage sale so will wear them on a chain. I hope I win silliest costume. There will be horseback soccer but Ariel and I will not be participating…
Blurf Our neighborhood is the one everyone comes to from miles around. I usually buy a bunch of candy and give it to a neighbor that is playing along but I may not even do that. The lights will be off. Bah Humbug…
Morning all. Slept in and need to get myself presentable and doing some banking and get my Monday sub sammich.
I got my T or T stuff yesterday, Kit Kat’s and Snickers with a bag of spares. Usually get 30-40 kids, some local, some ‘bussed’ in, so I should have some left for me (I have aready started raiding the Kit Kats…). But outside of that nothing special.
Dry but cloudy (not much sun the past 4-5 days) and rain forecast for Wednesday.
Need to see those pictures when they are ready, Sari.
Our little town does a Halloween thing up and down the main drag where (almost) all the merchants hand out candy to every kid in the county. Srsly. Wifey’s office will buy about 10k pieces of candy. Some years there’s some left over, most years they run out early. Lots of the brokers will wear outfits. They usually do wizard of oz costumes. I will go over there with Wifey and check that the candy isn’t poison. (And refill the candy bowls).
We don’t like to do Halloween at home 'cause it makes Gibbs crazy and he barks all evening protecting us from the monsters.
We’ll leave the pups in the house with the lights out. Most everybody knows that that means ‘not this house’
But we’re six blocks from the university and college kids seem to be unusually dense sometimes. If they get barked at they deserve it.
Central Orygun news: We went over the hill last Wed. to meet the cable installer guy Thurs. and stayed 'til Sat afternoon. Got the front yard puppy-proofed and did a few little projects like hang things on the walls and stuff. When we came back over the hill it was snowing in the passes. Wifey is gonna get studs put on the Hyundai. It already has all-wheel drive. We also need to get a new wood stove put in there. The one that was there was perfectly fine but not state ‘certified’, whatever that means, and we were required to remove it. The only heat we have there is electric baseboard and it gets cold there. It was 15 degrees 'merikan last night in Maupin. :shiver:.
Also, we had taken Wifey’s laptop over to check the internet when it got installed and Friday it died. Maybe a virus, I dunno. It just won’t start. I’m typing this on my old laptop with the screen that’s going bad that I installed Win 10 on. Not a big fan of Win 10. I could go upstairs and use my good desktop, but I’m lazy.
All you folks in California be careful out there. I spent a couple-four years in Callyforn-I-A fifty years ago and liked it but I wouldn’t live there now for anything. The state gummint taxed and feeed the hell out of everybody then. It hasn’t gotten any better, by all reports.
I’ve ordered some coffee from Community Coffee. Eight pounds of Dark Roast, and eight pounds of Café Special. With the 25% discount (Code: TREAT, today and tomorrow only) and free shipping, it came out to $5.34¼ per pound.
Howdy Y’all! I adulted up and did the pine straw chore. Took about thirty minutes to spread pine straw where needed. Also, I spiffed da cave and have beast stew cookin’ away in the slow cooker. In a while I shall make cornbread, cause, it goes good with beast stew. Tomorrow I get the kitchen counters installed. YAY! Hopefully that will not be an all day task. The folks doin’ the installation are supposed to be here at nine a.m. which means anytime between eight a.m. and two p.m. based on past experiences with folks comin’ to do stuff.
Wetone harlequin sunglasses on a chain should be enough to get you the win. If harlequin sunglasses on a chain does not scream crazy cat lady, then what does!
I almost didn’t hang out the sheets , it looked overcast through the window. Probably the angle of the sun.I went outside and the sun was shining.
The pups found a hole in the fence and escaped into the next neighbor up yard. She has a pretty solid privacy fence so I knew they wouldn’t get any further. We did the best we could to put the broken board back where it belongs, hard to get back there because of the rose of sharon. I’m ready to cut everything down. That neighbor and I have talked about this happening because the neighbor between us has trees growing through the fence.
The neighbor’s on the other side are moving this week. Even if their landlady hadn’t given them 30 days notice they would be leaving. They told me she (the landlady) is going crazy. She put up cameras watching the front door and every time the neighbor’s got guests the landlady would call them and ask them who was there. She also has cameras watching the next neighbor down door as well. Since it is a duplex, it may just be that the camera goes that wide, I don’t know. My ring doorbell picks up part of neighbor’s porch right in front of her door, I can only adjust it so much. I let my neighbor know though, and she doesn’t care. I could pick up the neighbor’s on the other side if I wanted to, but I don’t.
Anyway, they told me the landlady is going through a divorce and is going crazy on everybody. She (they said) kicked out the other tenants, one of whom is her uncle, and was (they said) escorted out of her daughter’s house, in handcuffs, by the police. She was supposed to be selling the house, but the neighbors say now she isn’t. I hope it doesn’t mean she is going to move in there. Anyway, I can’t remember her name, once I look it up I’ll go look to see if there is a police report.
Last thing I need is some damn crazy moving in next door. I know she hates animals, I don’t want one of them next door either.
Trying to decide what to eat, and if I want to order it or go pick it up. I don’t feel like cooking, and I didn’t take anything out to thaw anyway.
I looked her up Swampy, and if she was taken out in handcuffs there is no record of it, unless it was in a different state.
Which where I live is quite possible, since both WV and PA are only a few miles away.
I did peruse the intartoobz to order some dinner, Chinese. I decided to go get it to save the delivery charge. I should have had it delivered, the place has a horrible parking lot which is hard to get into and out of.
I hate when I am hungry and nothing sounds good. I’ll have the shakes and still not want to eat.
Our supper was spinach ravioli in my world-famous sketty sauce and salad with lots of stuff to add - 'maters, cukes, onions, 'shrooms, celery, hard-boiled eggs, bacon bits, cheese - much yummage! SIL just rinsed the dishes, but I can’t load them because I had to wash a load right before supper. So he’ll put them away tomorrow and I’ll load the dirties when I get home.
We’re giving out bags of chips and such; the usual lunchbag sized ones and not the puny little Halloween ones. That way we can use the leftovers for ourselves. And we will be deploying the bubble-foggers – ever a hit with the kiddies and adults as well. The one year we didn’t at least a dozen people asked where they were. And after 5 years at Da Old Jungle my shift times allow me to be here for it all. I am quite happy.
I have no use for it; old hands will know I LOVE my Dad’s old desk I fixed up. And I think two raccoons screwed themselves silly in it. But $10? And its oak? And it was only 50 miles away and barely fit in my Outback. I just hadda. It is now setting in the garage for warmer weather or a drunk friend to decide he/she wants it. Worse comes to worse I got some great wood for some other project. :smack:
