BOO! It's A Hallowe'en MMP

Claussen Sauerkraut with Polska kielbasa for dinner tonight. The cats were like, ‘Whatcha got, dad? We want some!’ Yeah, right. OK, here’s some Sauerkraut, you little beggars. Ha! Only… it turns out kitties like Sauerkraut.

I have an appointment to get my bus windshield replaced in the morning. I must find a new parking spot. Next to the ball field ain’t a good location. It’s only $250 which I thought and still think is way cheap. I had to reschedule my dentist appointment but they have an opening for 0830 Wed. I am considering just taking the whole day off. Wed is maid day and lord knows I shan’t get in her way. We shall see. I think Firday is the first which starts the craziness again.

I had a bowl of cereal with blueberries for supper. Old man had a sammich. I need to start cooking.

All ye Californians stay safe. Terrible situation.

Evening all.

Soccer has been practiced, banking done, and dinner was provided by Jack’s (a local Hamburger chain, NOT Jack In the Box). Their hamburgers are decent, but I love their crinkle-cut fries.

ruble, you just love living dangerously, don’t you? And at least I don’t see an Emu running down the street…

Sari, y’all ought to move down here (we’ve got a couple house available near me). Never had a single problem with the neighbors–many of whom I barely know.

flyboy, I don’t drink coffee, so I presume $5.34/lb is a good deal. Enjoy.

Bumba, sounds like the new place is coming together. Hope the computer can be fixed.

All y’all take care.

Dang post went poof. Hate when that happens.

IPad weirdness.

Unless she peruses here, then she’ll find teh crazee.

I took Spanish in HS, but I was told the German teacher was a sour Kraut.
Sari, didja see me wavin’ yestidy? Morgantown, WV to I-68E to US220 to the PA Tpk; how close was I to you? You’re in/near Hagerstown?
I don’t think I’s can do Halloween this year, & the neighbors will be disappointed. I usually do it up & have fun with it…except for that one year that a pumpkin blew it’s brains out in the driveway, complete with ‘blood’ from the exit wound & Officer Pumpkin coming & setting up crime scene tape around the ‘deceased’.  Don’t think I’ll be home in time. :frowning: Lets hope the plane is early. OTOH, it’s nice & warm in Floriduh.

sari, anyone who could get Nelson into a costume that involves more than a collar or harness would be worth far more than $5. :stuck_out_tongue:

ruble, you got a steal on the desk.

Twas a Monday all day. Not the worst beginning for EoM week though. I don’t think Nelson will have to go to daycare for the rest of the week. Our weekend guy really hauled booty.

After irk, I made a quick batch of chicken rice soup for a friend with a severe case of the flu. Her wife has her hands full with returning to work and taking care of their newborn. I hope she feels better soon.

To answer the OP: I’ve lived in apartment complexes with studio, one and two bedroom units only for enough years that I know the ToTer is a rare beast. I keep some cool stickers to hand out just in case, but the school bus doesn’t even stop at my complex, so, no candy is purchased (don’t want that temptation around to raise my BG to astronomical levels).

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 70 Amurrkin out and rainy with a predicted high of 75 with rain all day, tonight, and into the day tomorrow. We shall see. Today I deal with the kitchen counter installers and laundry. I really hope the installation folks get here by nine. They told me they would via text last night. Again, we shall see. Beast stew leftovers for sup. Thus shall be my day.

MetalMouse we had a Jack’s in Ye Olde Hometowne back in my misspent youth days. The name changed to Taylor’s, then to Tyler’s, then went away. I know there are Jack’s scattered throughout Alabammy still. I believe there is still one just over the state line near Ye Olde Hometowne.

Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands sustenance. Then, onward into the day. Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Blurf. Awake too early. Blurf

Mornin’ all.

Halloween is increasingly a Big Thing this side of the pond- when I was just a little nutlet, it was overshadowed by Bonfire Night (November 5th). We carved swedes (rutabagas to you), 'cos pumpkins were pretty well unheard of (I never tried one until I was in my 20s), there were kids parties with dressing up, maybe the odd adult drnuker party (it was a big thing as a teen goth, but that was about it), but trick or treating just really wasn’t a thing, at least where I lived. Never did it, never had kids try. Now there’s plenty of houses smothered in plastic skulls and spiders. The shops are full of carving pumpkins, as well as eating squash (the bit I care about), and bags of treats to give to marauding kids. We’re not at all organised about it though; far from having a designated day and time, kids will be attempting T or T-ing over a few days (some wait til it’s not a skool night), and there’s no ‘opt out’ option.

I ain’t been to the US, so I’m judging from the internet, but it seems we have a much bigger emphasis on the nominally scary here when it comes to costumes. Kids will be mostly dressed as witches and vampires, though the odd sparkly unicorn is sneaking in.

I live on the top floor of a building where half the delivery guys can’t find the entrance, so I’m not expecting any.
There’s an unpleasant and hopefully dying tradition up North that’s sort of trick-or-treating without the treat, and the tricks are nasty, even dangerous. Teens used to call Halloween ‘fright night’ and terrorise anyone they didn’t like; stuff like putting lit fireworks into letterboxes (which are mostly in the door here). Harassment, pretending to be a joke. The areas that did that also did bonfires by piling up literally anything- old cars, sofas, poring petrol over it and torching the lot, while getting very drunk. In built-up areas, of course. That’s probably why there was so much pushback about Halloween trick or treating.

Anyway, I need to away into town; I want to see about getting a flu shot, drop off a prescription request, and open a savings account. It’s almost like being a proper grownup. The wind’s pretty wild though and there’s heavy rain on the forecast, so I really just want a jammie day.

Up, caffeinanated and sheveled. Off to work.

This morning was a struggle when the alarm went off. Counting today, I have 20 work days left. I’m ready. In the next week or so, I’ll submit my official, formal letter of resignation. I’m going to try to write something better than “See ya!!”

Lots of crap in my in box - for most projects, we don’t print out the drawings. They’re promoted electronically, so when changes have to be made, I get an email. This morning, I had a metric buttload of emails awaiting me, so it’ll be a busy day. Guess I’d best get started.

Happy Tuesday!!

Up, caffeinating, approximately the same forecast as swampy’s, not sheveled, but the kids are. It’s Red Ribbon Week (drug awareness education) at the Littles’ school, so themed dress-up every day. Yesterday was simple: wear sunglasses or neon. Today was “partner up against drugs,” with the conceit of dressing up like a friend. Littlest and her bestie kept it simple - blue shirt, black shorts, hair in a bun. Mediumest forgot to partner up and plan an outfit, so she wore camouflage to disguise the oversight. I thought that was clever of her. But I’m glad the girls have backpacks with built-in lights, because it was a dark and dreary walk to the bus stop, even without the wearing black and camo thing.

We live in the country, so no trick or treaters in our hood. We do invade the nearest subdivision that does ToT. (It also happens to be where two of the girls’ teachers live. I always offer to augment their candy supplies, and they always refuse. I hate feeling like a carpetbagger!)

Thursday will be the last Book Character parade at school for Littlest, so it’s a two-costume-change for her: EB White’s Charlotte for the school day, and an angel for ToT. (Her teacher definitely won’t recognize her!) Lily chose a Catwoman costume. And the Jungle is stressing me out with close shipping times, especially for the bits I need to manufacture Charlotte’s Web. But I’m not stressed enough to go to the Mart yet…

Speaking of stress, Mr. L has to go to the DMV today to get a new handicap parking decal. I’m hoping I can get him out of bed - he tripped over the puppy yesterday, while trying to avoid tripping over the Big Dawg. Fortunately, he also has an appointment with pain management in the morning.

And the College Girl misplaced her debit card some time over the weekend, so I had to talk her through freezing the old card, getting a temporary replacement, and ordering a new one. But at least she knows how to do that now. (She’ll probably find the original in an improbable place today, if I know her.)

And that does remind me: I gotta order new checkbooks. I probably don’t write more than ten paper checks per year, so I keep forgetting!

Rosie’s signature to all, and to all a good day!

Howdy Y’all! My kitchen is all ripped up! However, within the next couple of hours, so I’m told, I’ll have purty new countertops, new sink and new faucet, complete with handles and a new spray thingy. YAY! Of course then, I get to put stuff back where it lives on counters and under the sink. Didn’t have to empty out the pots and pans, so there’s that, I guess.

Got notice around 8:30 this morning that the Jungle had not yet shipped Littlest Miss’ costume yet. She had her heart absolutely set on dressing as an angel, because we’re meeting up with her friend to raid homes for candy, and friend is going to be a devil. Aaauuughh!

Upon seeing me hyperventilating, my husband just said “well, find the nearest Halloween store and go get the baby her costume.” So, an hour each way, in the rain…

I did run a couple of other non-urgent errands while I was in “the city,” and Mr. Matata came with me so we could have brunch at a favorite restaurant that’s mostly based in Jacksonville. But the costumes are all accounted for now.

Gotta start manufacturing Charlotte, and find the book.

(I’m being very extra this year, because I see the end of the traditional kid Halloween just over the horizon. My babies are reaching the age where they’ll want to go to friends’ parties versus asking for candy from strangers.)

Happy Toosday!

Cloudy today, but not too cool. I wore my coat to the dog park and had to take it off.

I irked my morning shift, and irk was busy, which is nice. Then we went for groceries.

Yes, Spidey, I’m in Hagerstown. Morgantown is something like 140 miles away. As you drove by on 168, I think you were not too far away. Next time honk your horn and I’ll wave.

MetalMouse, Alabama is a choice to move to. How much are the houses down your way? With my job I can live anywhere with reliable phone service and an internet connection. Although I have suggested to a friend of a friend that she might want to consider moving up this way. She got forced into retirement, and it is a lot cheaper to live up here than down towards Baltimore. I think she is paying something like $1400/month rent down there, while up here she could get basically the same thing for about $800.

Before I do anything to it I have it up for adoption among some friends for cost basically. If its still here in the spring I may re-do it and make it a garage desk with space for some better/more specialized tools and some manuals and reference works. Its almost too good for that but --------- our house is just too damn full as it is.

Somebody, quick: Where are the bleeping scissors?!

Or better yet, the fabric scissors?

Sari, around where I live (Huntsville), prices are somewhat high, with a lot of jobs attracted by NASA/US Army we get a fair number of highly paid professionals moving this way. That said, I have a 1600 sq. ft 3-BR house that ocst me $104,900 in 1997 and is valued (by the tax people) at about $168,500 now. But I pay only $850 in property tax, which I think is lower than most places (it’ll be going up next year for new the new school levy we passed). Not sure about rent prices.

Elsewhere prices are usually lower than they are in the Northeast, from what I’ve read.

Peaches, good luck with the costumes.

swampy, hope the kitchen looks good after this.

Me? Slept in, fixed lunch, internetted, and used the bathroom twice. Exciting day, eh?
