I like them on the big side. At least a prominent feature. Most fashion model type women / hollywood star women are just too damned skinny for my tastes. I like decent sized breasts too, but they don’t have to overly large or even porportionate with the ass. I just love the curves.
I was watching a woman a few paces ahead of me walk down the sidewalk. If she had been standing still, I wouldn’t have paid much attention to her butt. She had very clearly defined cheeks but a bit too big and round. But she had this amazing grind going on and I couldn’t look away.
I’m a girl with a rather large butt and I have to say that all guys that I’ve been with have been really, really into it. I think that I attract butt freaks and only butt freaks.
I don’t think it has that much to do with style, though. All of my experiences have led me to believe that men wouldn’t know how to fake being a (body part)-man.
Style is for women usually, not men.

I’m an “ass man” and a “breast man”. My ex had a boob job and a J. Lo ass.
Men may not come out and say it but when we see a nice big booty, sexually, we visualize (men are visual) having sex with them doggy-style and that booty spread apart, hammering away, and it’s like I’m watching a real-live porno movie except it ain’t no movie. It is very difficult for a woman to understand this. With a small ass, it just isn’t the same.

Well, what’s your definition of big? If a girl has to walk sideways through doors in order to get in and out of most rooms, I’d say it’s a bit of a turn off…
Seriously though, to me it’s all about proportions. IIRC, I believe it was Barbershop that defined the ideal waist:butt ratio as 5:7, and I’m inclined to agree. Feel free to correct me on my movie math, though, since it’s been some time since I saw the movie.
