In the field of academics, someone would be expected to list the distinction of being a National Merit Scholar. Obviously even a MIT professor can be proud of it. Not every MIT professor holds that distinction I would think.
Should you forget about earning that Phi Beta Kappa key four or five years after you shrug off the NMS?
Not all of the PSAT is considered for the National Merit Scholarship – only certain answers.

I am in a position where getting appropriate advice on computer training has been difficult for me.
For many years, I worked in a photo lab, where computers simply were not used. My employer only provides update training–training for programs one is already familiar with–rather than introductory training.
When I ask about training in a non-work setting, I get a reply asking me what areas of computers I am interested in. Since I have no idea what areas exist, or what they do, I cannot give a good answer. Back to square one.
I have taken basic courses in an attempt to address my ignorance–these seem to teach you to turn the thing on, to web-surf, to use Word, & not a whole lot else.
Yes, I did win a National Merit Scholarship. In the late 70s. I didn’t get it by being particularly smart, just with lots of hard work, & completely abandoning any pretense of a social life.
I am grateful to those of you who helped me with my recent computer problems.

Getting appropriate advice on anything is difficult for you. That’s not because people are unwilling to offer you appropriate advice, it’s because you ignore it.

I know you act like you have some sort of mental problems (and despite the “Bosda clause”, I think you’re just an asshole, not actually mentally ill), but either way, if you’re well enough to post here, you’re healthy enough to know that when someone tries to help you, you type the words “Thank you” back at them not “It’s fixed” or “See the earlier post where I SAID it was fixed. :rolleyes:”, even if you don’t understand why.

I’ve been there. I kept getting late notices from the bank that handles my mortgage. I thought they were trying to rip me off and intimidate me, and I gave their help line pure hell. Turned out one of my automatic drafts didn’t activate that week. It’s really hard to salvage my dignity and thank them for helping after venting like a rabid dog.
The people he’s being asked are posters in the thread, who are helping him.
He went and posted a thank you. This pitting seems kind of harsh.
