Boss's Day today

Happy Boss’s Day to my current and former bosses! I have to say that I’ve never had a bad boss. They were/are all great. One of my bosses (he has died) I would consider a friend rather than a boss.

There’s no question there can be, and are, good bosses. And middle managers, beset on both sides, have an especially fraught position. But a system that gives a few people the power to command others for the 8+ hours of the work day, and to profit from their labour, is not a system of equity, equality, freedom, or democracy. So I march on Labour Day and May Day, but don’t celebrate boss’s day.

So, you want to stop Dave from opening Dave’s Muffler Shop. Fine, but then how do I get my car’s muffler replaced?

Nope, I want to stop Big Muffler from squeezing out Dave, who is hardworking, pays a good wage to the couple of workers he hires and trains, but can’t compete because Big Muffler pays people badly, gets concessions from government and suppliers, and so can undercut Dave. It’s the difference between the landlord who rents the basement suite in their house and the landlord who owns dozens of buildings up to and including Trump. The same name–boss/landlord–is too broad to capture very different class positions.
Of course, I would still advocate for an anarcho-syndicalist commune where we take turns to act as a sort of executive officer for the week but all the decisions of that officer have to be ratified at a special bi-weekly meeting,by a simple majority, in the case of purely internal affairs…
