I am at a lost to explain the lack of interest of Boston Legal on this Board. To me its laugh-out-loud funny. Maybe this bit from Tuesday night’s show will get some of the Trek Geek contingent on board.
Denny Crain (William Shatner) and Allan Shore (James Spader) are salmon fishing in BC, Canada, when they are asked to go to court to fight against fish farms which promote the breeding of a certain salmon parasitic lice which is killing the wild salmon. Someone refers to the lice as “cling-ons” and the camera cuts to Shatner, he looks straight into the camera, and he deadpans, “Did someone say Klingons?”
I watched it last season, when it was on Sunday night, I think.
I plan to catch the reruns though. The only reason I don’t watch it now is because there are a couple of other Tuesday shows I watch (Earl and Supernatural), and two hours of TV a day is enough for me.
Is Shatner still doing the “I’m Denny Crain” schtick?
Love the show and burst out laughing at the Cling-On reference.
Plus the cast is fantastic and the writing is Kelly at his best - he seems to have finally learned that fine line between Ally McBeal and The Practice. Let’s see how long he can keep it going, but so far, this season has been kickass good!
Yeah, in fact, the other scene that made me laugh so loud i woke the kids, was at the end of the Canadian courtroom scene, after Allan had made an impassioned plea to save the wild salmon, he said,
“…and we leave you with these two words…”
and Shatner says,
“Denny Crain, eh”
The wife called to me up the stairs, “What are you watching!??!?”
I only saw a handful of episodes last season, but loved every scene Shore and Crane (Spader and Shatner) were in. I usually don’t go for legal shows, but those two characters, played by those two actors, were just perfect – especially when they got to interact with each other.
I watch the show for mainly for the eye candy and James Spader. It’s occasionally funny, and Shatner has been excellent on it - more of a guilty pleasure for me.
But, c’mon…when you make a Lake Bell for Candace Bergen trade last season, and this year you ship out Rhona Mitra, you’re going to lose some of your market share.
Betty White is great on the show, but Bergen makes me retch - she’s a one-note actress who’s been playing the same note since before Father Murphy or whatever that sit-com she was on last century was called.
But you got Julie Bowen (rowr!) and Ryan Michelle Bathe in return. Not quite knock-for-knock compared to Bell & Mitra & Potter, but as long as you Have Spader/Shatner, its all good.
I really enjoyed Boston Legal last year, but man, that first episode this year (the first of the two-parter with Heather Locklear) launched them straight over the shark tank. It was just way too over the top and unbelievable.
The last two episodes have been better, however. They almost lost me, but I’ll hang in some more. They need to reel in the Denny Crain character just a little (his lechery is way too over the top to be believable, for example).
Just a note, the corpse in a freezer happened near here.
Short version:
kids bug wierd nieghbor (WN)
WN threatens kids (hits them and takes thier bikes)
Kids dad confronts WN
WN shoots dad (wounding him)
Holdout betwwen police and WN eventually ends peacefully
Searching the home they find a corpse in the freezer
Turns out it is WN’s Mom
Mom dies of natuarl causes, son hid body because afraid of murder charges and to keep collecting her social security
“What’s in your freezer” bumper stickers show up on area cars.
I’ve been wondering where all the Boston Legal-ites were on this board. This is my favorite show, bar none. I must admit I am a huge Shatner fan so I can’t resist.
Last week’s was the best yet. I have it recorded and will probly watch it again. I have to agree a bit about Candace Bergen, I’m not a fan of them bringing her on the show. But the other new characters they’ve brought on board have definitely improved it.
If there’s no BL thread started next Tuesday night I’ll get 'er going. Since Battlestar Galactica is over until January BL is the only show I make time to watch now.
I have trouble remembering when it’s on now (must remember: post-Earl/Office). I don’t miss Potter for a second, and Mitra was hot but I crushed on Bowen all through Ed’s run, so it’s even for me. And Lake Bell? Blech!
Shatner’s fun, but was probably the least deserving of the Supporting Actor Emmy nominees this last year.
