I can get free internet & computer time at the library, the coffee shop across the street, the McDonald’s down the street - if I were homeless I’d be on the internet every chance I got. It’s my connection to the rest of the world and would go a long way towards keeping me sane.

Seriously, when someone says “I’m homeless” and they aren’t asking for money, unless it seems like a cynical ploy for some reason, you don’t say, “Prove it”. You certainly don’t say, “Go be productive, you lazy homeless bum. What are you doing online, talking to a community that you enjoy spending time with?”

I rarely join in the conversation on these types of threads, but I was sadly reading the original thread and feeling empathy for Dorothy when my jaw hit the floor on bot3’s post.

Dorothy’s OP plucked my heartstrings while raising the automatic question “is this a scam?” I hadn’t read her prior posts - any post asking for money is prima facie suspicious (and she didn’t even ask!). So there’s no surprise a doper would raise the question of legitimacy.
But bot3 comes along and, instead of honest out-loud wondering “is this just a ploy for cash?” chooses rather to reveal his butt cheeks then proceeds to slap them repeatedly for attention.

To Dorothy, I hope you reach for all help available and I wish you the best (I went through a similar experience and everything turned out all right - small comfort, I know). I’m glad the doper community is here for you and thank you for allowing us to provide at least the comfort of a sympathetic ear.
To bot3, the least said the better. If this public shaming causes you to reflect and grow, there is hope. If this type of attention is fun for you, there is no hope - please go away.
I was surprised that he thought he could assume anything about someone (or no one, in this case) based on location, particularly a cosmopolitan place like Tel Aviv. That he mentioned it the way he did diminished him further in my estimation, something that minutes before I wouldn’t have thought possible.

bot3, you jumped on her as if she’s surfing the internet all day doing nothing. Take a look at the folks using computers at the library. They’re checking for jobs, checking their email, etc. Maybe she posted in this forum after answering a bunch of job postings. And why not post here? For the most part, it’s a good group of people willing to help. Already many constructive suggestions were made. And many members are homeless or formerly homeless. They can also offer some very relevant suggestions.
Dorothy’s been posting here for 6 years; she was 14 years old when she started posting, and you could have sworn she was at least 10 years older than that. She’s by all indications a lovely and intelligent person.
bot3’s been here 6 months and is the complete opposite in every other respect also.

I spent a few months in a homeless shelter that had computers for educational purposes. This was before the Internet really took off. It’s possible that Dorothy has been using a computer in a shelter.
