With the mates down to six–minus Duplicitous Dan the ratings bait–and the Big Secret set to be revealed after the next round of cuts (according to Newsweek), who will leading man James keep and who will he turf? Will Spiritual Fag Hag To The Nation Andra get another veto? How many straights are left, and who are they?
I still am reading Sean as straight, although less so after his dirty dance from last week’s show. Someone said they thought Robb was straight and I’m tending to lean toward that opinion myself, based completely on the fact that there were the last time I looked two mates listed by name on IMDB; one is Dan and the other is Robb. I’ve been wrong before, pretty much uniformly, so not much point in taking my word for it. So I say there are two straights left and one of them will get eliminated tonight.
Well, we knowthere must be at least one hetero left in the bunch because that’s the Big Secret. So far, I’ve been correct on each rejected mate’s orientation. IMO, Wes, Robb, and Brian H. are definitely gay; Sean and Franklin I’m 50/50 about; Darren is hetero. I could be wrong, but that’s my prediction.
Wes and Franklin are still way ahead in the on-line poll (37% and 36% respectively).
My favorite, though, is Sean. He’s the one I’d chose simply because he isn’t flashy. Wes is a doll, though, and he’s the one that I’m betting (metaphorically) on.
Sean is almost too obviously straight to be straight- he’s got the “cute computer nerd” thing happening. The real long shot is that Wes and Andra will hook up while Jamie rides into the sunset in an SUV driven by Miss Coco Peru.
I couldn’t believe James chose Brian over Darren tonight, especially after the kiss we saw. I thought there was really some chemistry there. If I had to choose right now, I’d say that Brian is the straight one (remember how mad he got when Dan complimented him on his ‘treasure trail’?), or possibly Wes “you assumed I was gay…why.” I don’t think it’s Franklin right now, since he got so jealous about Darren.
I didn’t catch who wrote the letter to Franklin…was it Darren or Robb?
OK, I was one for two on the straight question tonight. Which I think is better than I’ve done all series long. If there was any doubt in anyone’s mind that Sean was straight, his use of the phrase “gay revolution” should have put a stake through it. Not even gay revolutionaries used the phrase “gay revolution.”
Looks like we’re being set up to root for Wes to be The Chosen One, which because I’ve seen reality shows leads me to believe he won’t be although I hope that a) he is and b) he does something about that Tintin upsweep 'do he has going on. I think Brian is the remaining straight guy (assuming there is even a remaining straight guy and the “twist” isn’t a big lie because he’s eliminated all the straights already).
Based on Sean’s post-elimination interview I’m totally left wondering what the hell motivated him to participate in this little exercise. He came off as honest and sensitive and it seems like he’d be really upset if he got picked and had to break James’ heart.
Really strange but I can kind of relate. I would imagine, if I was on the show, that I would want to play it for as long as possible. Not to win, but to make the point to John Q. Public that people are people - gay or straight. Sean seemed very tuned in to the point of the show, breaking down perceptions about gay/straight people. He seemed less motivated by “winning” vs. raising awareness and I can see how hard it would be to know that part of that may involve also breaking someones heart.
Feh, perhaps I’m just missing things. I did only see the last two episodes so…
Great episode. This is the very first reality t.v. show I’ve seen that I am really hooked into and actually give a rats-ass about anyone but especially the main person. I just ached when he was talking about his fear of selecting the wrong person, especially knowing that there were Jokers in the deck in the form of straight people. Wow… great stuff!
I’m completely stumped on who is straight now. Franklin struck me at first, but there was the jealousy thing. Wes seems gay but it just seems too easy. Brian reminds me of a friend I had in NYC almost exactly, and he was straight. Aaargh, I have no idea and cannot wait for next week!!
I think as a result of the pairings of twos, people were asked to leave whom he would really rather have kept but was forced to choose between two definite keepers, ya’ know?
Great show again, I think I’m getting the gay on me. (QE joke!)
Oh, anyone notice that the letter Franklin read at the end was not Sean’s letter? Sean’s letter, from what I saw of it started with something like “read this outloud to the guys”. We didn’t see that though, so what did it say? Why didn’t they show it?
Well, I was also one for two tonight, but Darrne just didn;t seem to be sincerely gay to me. (And yes, as soon as “gay revolution” came out of Sean’s mouth, I leaned over to my boyfriend and said, “He’s a straight boy.”)
And what’s the deal with Jame’s faghag? The preview of next week’s episode shows her having hysterics over the revaltion that there’s a breeder in the woodpile. Seems to me that she’s waaaaay too overinvested in this business. I get the feeling that she’s not so much of a best friend as an emotional vampire who has latched onto James because she’s too unstable to find a regular boyfriend for herself.
I think Franklin’s the joker. He’s trying a bit too hard to be noticed (like the “people’s blood and sweat and adrenal fluid and genetic codes and yellow bile went into that wine” comment), and he strikes me as the type who could let James pick him without having a moment’s remorse about humiliating himself on national TV.
James seems to have the same problem as Martin Donavan’s character in OPPOSITE OF SEX- he can’t admit that he’s just attracted to somebody physically, he has to add some personality justification to it. This is probably why he’s struck out in the past. With Dan- he was jonesing for some Dan-ass so bad that he couldn’t see straight, and who can blame him? But he had to keep on making the “he seems to be a really caring guy who is trying to make a commitment blah blah yada yada old soul loves puppies” rhetoric-
When I was little (not more than kneehigh to an arthritic wildebeest) my family had a frequently drunk maid named Cunning (that was honestly her name) who told me “Aunt Cunning’s four Fs of love” when I was about seven (shortly before her “going away party”)-
“Find 'em, Fool 'em, F*ck 'em, and Forget 'em-” Dan (even if he was gay) and Franklin are 4 F’ers and Wes is a keeper. I think.
I’ve said all along that I was unsure of Sean but I thought he was the straight-acting geeky gay guy. However I hedged my bet on him, so I don’t feel too fooled. But I was completely fooled by Darren. I thought he was straight from the first episode. I’m still in shock.
One of the problems with identification, I believe, is that we don’t get to see enough of their interaction with Andra. Those interactions would be a dead give-away for many of the guys. Brian A. really gave himself away with the looks he gave her.
Who left is straight? I’m stumped. I’ve waivered back and forth on Franklin from the beginning. But he looked genuinely jealous when he saw Darren and James kiss. Wouldn’t that be an OGT?
Wes is gay. Of that I’m certain. At least moreso than any of the other remaining mates. The breakfast he made was just too fab.
So I’m voting that Brian is the remaining straight guy; but allowing that it could be Franklin. I’m only about 55/45 in my sureness between those two.
Did you notice on the clips how Andra freaked upon being told the “straight” truth?
If Franklin is straight (which I think he is), he’s a true player. Did you notice the butt action he was giving James? OTOH, he could be competitive enough to do anything it takes to win. (BTW, it must have been either a straight guy or a 74 year old who hired those strippers; they reminded me of the gay version of the “exotic dancer” Bull once hired for Dan on Night Court.)
So how would you out a straight guy? I think showing gay porn and seeing who winces might work, or using the “Trolley shibboleth” (i.e. singing “Clang! Clang! Cland!” and seeing who doesn’t immediately respond with “went the trolley!”) might as well.
Sean surprised me. I thought his parting comments and hugs were great until the ‘Gay revolution’ thing. Just who says that, anyway? I guess that explains why he wasn’t interested in kissing James.
Echoing gobear’s comments on Andra. What the hell is she getting so upset about? James is the one who should be upset and all he can say (according to the previews) is ‘WOW!’. WOW? That doesn’t even begin to describe the situation.
It seems to me that James is homing in on Wes. If Wes turns out to be straight, I’ll be surprised, but stranger things can happen.
I think the next round should have some sex. Maybe the remaining straight guy wouldn’t do that even for $25,000.00
BTW, does anyone know what James gets out of this, other than a, possible, new boyfriend?
According to her bio on Bravo’s website she has a husband and two kids.
That bio is really confusingly written. “Mother first and best friend second”? Mother to whom, her kids or James? And shouldn’t “wife” be ahead of “best friend” if “mother” is referring to her kids? Of course the first time I read it I thought it meant “Andra’s mother comes first and her best friend second” which would have left her family out in the cold completely.

There was a Newsweek article a couple weeks ago that expanded upon James’ reaction well beyond “wow.” He was pretty pissed.
James, if he chooses a gay mate, wins a trip for him and the mate to New Zealand.
If she’s married with kids, then why isn’t she home with her family instead of acting as duenna for her gay best friend? Something in this situation does not add up.
I love Wes in the “so you assumed I was gay… why?” commercial.
Well in the first place, you’re on a gay dating show- that’s usually an indication, especially when you don’t know the twist. In the second place, no offense dude but if you were any nellier you’d ovulate. That said, he’s really cute and I’d certainly console him if James doesn’t pick him.
