When last we left leading man James, he had been forced to eliminate one potential mate out of each of three groups of four. Through luck or superior gaydar, he eliminated two more straight mates while surprisingly carrying Dan the player into the next round.
Based on the previews, we have in store a sordid shower scene with the duplicitous Dan and another round of mate elimination, with Fag Hag Numero Uno Andra wielding some sort of “veto power.” Veto power over who James keeps? Who he eliminates? One veto or many?
Feel free to ignore this poor thread as you have the two which came before it…
Ok, it seems clear to me that none of the gay contestants know that some of their “mates” are actually straight. But do the straight imposters know how many others are straight?
I actually singed up for cable when I found out about this show, along with Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. Strangely, I didn’t think I’d like Queer Eye based on the name and premise, but I really love it. Boy Meets Boy, on the other hand, proved just a little disappointing so far. The production could use a little work…I’d like to see more one-on-one dates, and perhaps see a few of the imposters squirm a little. When are we going to see some kissing?
Although not quite matching the performance of Monica Lewinsky on Mr. Personality, the host of this show is extremely annoying. I think the show would be better if it didn’t try so hard to play spot the straight/gay guys and associated stereotypes, and focused more on the personal interactions with James.
DUplicitous Dan has been turfed, and there is much rejoicing through the land. Nice ass, though, and through the shower he looked to have a sprightly package. He seemed like such the nicer guy in the 30 second post-turfing interview than he did thoughout the rest of the show. Little bit of sour grapes, though, maybe, about getting eliminated? “Oh I couldn’t keep up the facade so I stopped playing” or whatever. Not hardly. He tried to play up the intrigue and he got caught; he wanted to win so bad he could taste it.
And what was up with that other straight boy who got cut? “Oh, I learned so much about gay people. Like they have no egos.” Um, hello, have you never met a gay man before this show?
I was really wondering about Andra’s veto power, whether by “saving” a mate it meant that James would have to turf another out of that group of three. Now since she didn’t use it I guess we’ll never know.
I agreed with all of James’ choices from last night except while I like Sean I think he’s straight.
Next week according to the previews. And James finds out that at least one of the remaining mates is straight. If there’s just one straight mate left then my prediction of five was accurate, but for the wrong reason, since the series lasts six episodes and not five like I thought.
I think gobear and I were the only ones who pegged Dan as straight after the first show. Kudos where they’re due folks.
I also agree that Dan seemed much nicer in the follow-up interview. He really seemed to learn from the experience. Especially about how hard it is to pretend to be something you’re not. I think he understands now why gay people Come Out. I hope some of the viewers learn the same lesson.
I also think Sean is straight, but I’m starting to waiver in my opinion. I may have misunderstood the promos, but it sounded like the hostess tells James next week that one of the remaining mates is straight. If only one straight guy remains, then my money is on it being Darren.
My Gaydar is hopelessly out of date, I guess. Maybe it’s still under warranty, though; I’ll have to check with the manufacturer.
Dan did have a really nice ass and I’m glad he seemed to learn something about gays. I noticed comments from some of the other straights about how they have changed their opinions about gays by doing the show.
Anyway, I haven’t guesses any of the straight guys. I’m not sure about Sean, but I really hope it’s not Wes. I think that’s who James is going to end up with. Who was the bisexual (from one of the ‘mates’ chats)? I didn’t get his name. Was he one of the ones eliminated? I’d sure not want to select him if I was James.
Assuming that the show repeats, there are a couple of things I’d like to see change:
Get rid of the ‘girly-girl’ best friend. It should be a gay best friend (3d Gaydar). Contrary to the hostess’ assumption, not all gay guys have a female best friend;
Have a male host;
Get rid of the ‘no sex’ rule. Straight dating shows regularly show the female crawling into the male’s bed;
More nudity :D.
As mediocre as the show is now, it at least shows gays in a good light.
I feel sorry for Jason. I expect that he is due for a discharge now that he has come out on national television. Maybe that’s what he was shooting for, though.
Well I will now officially take my wife’s gaydar out of commission. We were both floored that Dan and the other guy were straight. Those damn actors…
Question: What is that legalese they pop up there at the end for about three seconds? I’ve been trying to read it all - does it say something like he knows the candidates are straight ahead of time? It would change my opinion of the show considerably is that legalese admits there’s some sort of “fix.”
The only legalese I noticed was something about how the producers consult with James about his choices for elimination but the final choices are entirely his.
The drag queen at the club last night was Miss Coco Peru. If anybody here ever wants to see a hilarious scene, watch her “soliloquy” in the bathroom in TRICK. “It buuuuuurns…”
If Sean isn’t straight, then that’s who I bet he’ll ultimately pick. Totally agree both on Dan’s being a lying narcissist and on the merits of his butt (which he didn’t mind showing off for gay boys).
Otto, on one of the original posts about the program, it was mentioned that the producers asked the guys to limit their displays to kissing, only. I haven’t been to the web site, so don’t know whether it says that there or not. Apparently any indication that males have sex together is much too much for the American public to take.
Of course, we haven’t even seen the kissing yet, but apparently next week…
And if you look carefully during the diner scene, you’ll see her pass by the window. There was originally a scene in the diner men’s room between Gabriel and her but it was cut. I can’t remember if it’s on the DVD but I sort of think it is.
She can also be seen in Too Wong Foo as one of the contestants in the opening drag contest. She’s the one packing heat.
There’s currently a contest on TV Guide’s web site for "who’s sexier, Kyan or “The Restaurant’s Rocco DiSpirito”. The vote is currently 83/17% for Kyan.
There’s apparently a “no sex” rule in place so it would seem no one is sleeping with anyone. Although that would be an interesting show…how far exactly will a straight man go to win $25,000?
