What did Carol Brady do, Did she have a Job, Was she a Stay at Home Wife/Mom? Why did they have Alice the Housekeeper?
Mrs. Brady was a stay at home mom, but taking care of six kids was (apparently) too much for her to do alone. Oh, and a dog and a cat. Oh, and Cousin Oliver, later on.
Alice, as all good Brady fans know, was Mike’s housekeeper before he and Carol got married.
So, Mike couldn’t bear to get rid of Alice, and make Carol do the Housework.
slight hijack:
If there were a reward for blandest TV show, Brady Buch would have won it.
That’s sort of the situation in my house. Except my husband never had a housekeeper, so NO ONE does the housework.
Hey…Carol Brady had 6 (six!) children of various ages. Plus she was on the PTA AND the Anti-Smoking Brigade (run by that McCarthy-like lady) She was a Ladybug Den mother, was on several charity board, etc… etc…
AND she had to make sure none of the kids would take “playing doctor” too far. Weren’t there a lot of episodes when Marcia would “hang-out” with Greg in his attic “bachelor pad”??? Way Too Many Episodes like that???
Mike must’ve been making the big bucks as a cheesy Architect.
Well, he wasn’t much of an architect. After all, he had six kids, but he designed a house for his family with only three bedrooms and two bathrooms. :smack:
They had three bathrooms:
Master
Kids/Hall
One near Alice/Laundry
At let us remember that at least one of those bathrooms (kids/hall) had no toilet.
I’d say that Mike was probably a pretty powerful architecht - I mean, he was so good, the company agreed to pay for trips to Hawaii and an amusement park for him, his wife, SIX kids, and their maid! Plus, he was the man they looked to when that one lady wanted the powder puff shaped building, as well. Who else but Mike Brady could have pulled that off? If he hadn’t told her to blow it out her ass, of course.
I used to watch Alice make pancakes and other full breakfasts before the kids came down to leave for school, then they would sip some OJ and head out without even eating. So Alice’s purpose was to make my life seem inadequate when younger because I rarely ate breakfast because of time constraints and there was no way my mom was cooking on weekday mornings!
Now I am glad we couldn’t do what Alice did, because to this day I don’t eat breakfast and I am about the only persong my age (36) that doesn’t have a weight problem.
So, Alice helped make me feel cheated as a youngster. That was her purpose.
I think they should have made some of the children do some chores around the house. I mean, it was six children! Six!
The kids did chores! For instance, it was Greg’s job to mow the astroturf.
And in Mike’s defense, a house with three bedrooms and two (or three) bathrooms was perfectly adequate when he had three kids. He didn’t design the house (assuming he did design the house, was that ever established?) thinking he’d one day end up woth six.
In one of the “missing” episodes it’s revealed that Alice is actually Greg, Peter & Bobby’s biological mother; Mike’s first wife was infertile and they got the idea of “maid as surrogate mom” from reading Genesis.
I’m just glad Oliver got voted out first when the cast appeared on The Weakest Link. Never liked him.
Whatever happened to Tiger?
Tiger went homeless until he was adopted by Chuck Cunnigham.
Makes that four bedrooms. Alice lived there too.
And who says that the bathroom didn’t have a toilet. It was in an alcove. You couldn’t see it from the angles that they photographed the bathroom scenes.
LOL!! Thanks
