Brag!

Brag here about cool unusual stuff you go to do today.

Today, I got to see the exhibit in Parliament of all four surviving original copies of Magna Carta - the first time in history they’ve been brought to the same place. A rare bit of history!

Who’s next?

I threw a wadded up piece of paper into the trash can some 20 feet away.

Free breakfast at work today! AND lunch!

Neither of which fit into my diet, but hey, it’s the thought that counts.

I am currently teaching myself to hook a rag rug. It’s going…slowly! But I had a lot of fun getting this far, now it’s just a learning curve to climb!

Not all that brag worthy, I know, but how about this;

A man frequents the shop I occasionally work in, he’s in declining health. I hadn’t seen him in awhile, and he’s now declining rapidly. Through a series of coincidences I happen to have access to the grown son his, then girlfriend, surrendered for adoption decades ago. The son and father had met before, but live in separate towns and their lives intersect little.

After seeing him looking so bad, I called someone, suggested they call someone, who would then call the son so he could know of the turn in his birth father’s health. Which all happened and now this man will get to see his son at least once more! Just a little thing, I know, and my part in it all, even smaller, but I’m still happy about it!

I checked here to order a pic and that’s my #497 in the bottom right, this week’s featured event. Kinda cool.

I drove my car to the grocery store!
That doesn’t seem unusual or brag-worthy, except that we had to call a car guy to start the car because it wouldn’t start, and I hadn’t driven in a while, but I managed to drive the car, dodge snowplows, and get the car back up the sloped, snow-covered driveway! So yay.

I got to hold a wee baby rat, about the size of my pinky finger. A lady at work found the litter in her barbecue grill and he is the lone survivor, so she has brought him to work and is feeding him with a dropper. His name is Bob.

Made my day.

I’m getting my new washer and dryer delivered today! Being excited about a new washer and dryer means I’m so old I might turn to dust and blow away, but having a decent quality set of appliances so I can properly do my laundry instead of hauling them to the laundromat or buying cheap, used machines that are [del]broken[/del] quirky is a big deal to me!

My wife thought this morning would be a good time for some intimate relations. I agreed.

I got to share a Subway sub lunch with my 9 month old today!

I don’t get to spend a lot of 1 on 1 lunches with him, but Momma was getting her teeth cleaned, and I left the office to watch him while she was busy. Happiest baby boy on the planet, and at 30 pounds he’s a good eater.

Mom packed us pureed apples and carrots, but steak and cheese is more fun.

I drove a friend to his first-day orientation at a new job this morning–kind of a big deal for him, since he’s been out of work for a while.

Otherwise, it’s been a boring work-day for me.

Today I’m finishing my most recent work of art. It’s from a photo I took of two horses from the Observatory Fountain in Paris. It’s 48x32 inches, and contains 336 “tiles” (photos laminated and mounted on black foam core). I’ve been working on it since early December.

Assuming that satisfies the “unusual” qualifier in the OP, sorry dude, but congrats.

I once performed in Carnegie Hall! Not today, but I guess I’ll break the rules in order to get a good brag in. Believe me, it’s a LOT more impressive than it sounds - it was with a choir (that I’m no longer in) of a couple hundred people for a fundraiser. Still, it was a cool experience - “backstage” is mainly one really long, really narrow hallway. All along it are framed manuscripts from various composers. It’s pretty weird to see Bach’s or Beethoven’s original notes scribbled in the margins.

Argh, I meant to say “lot less impressive” there. :smack:

Earlier today: Double-decker bus, top deck, front seat. It’s an infallible shortcut to being a wee child again.

Ate sushi. Repaired/played a classic pinball machine. Pet my dogs.

Nothing earth-shaking, but a few things I’m proud of:

I finished setting up an Excel spreadsheet for me and my wife’s joint checking account. It keeps track of money set aside for recurring quarterly expenses and adjusts the balance for any checks that haven’t cleared as of our monthly balance statement. All I have to do is plug in debit card receipts and everything else is automatic. (For those bookkeeping-savvy, I essentially converted our checkbook from cash basis to accrual basis).

I’ve been playing around with learning various camping/survival skills and have mastered a few potentially useful tricks. Starting a fire with just the spark from an empty disposable lighter; how to light a strike-on-box match without the box; what a milkweed pod looks like and harvesting it for ultra-fine firestarting tinder; brushing up on knot-tying skills; and making a billy can with lid from a large tomato juice can. All the stuff I was too stupid and clumsy as a kid to master in Boy Scouts.

Finally, I’m currently in vocational school to learn accounting skills, and I’ve been scoring ~97% on my exams, and got a good review from my teacher.

I won a state Latin Comprehension award, taught myself to oil paint and won several prizes, tamed several wild animals, saved the state bird (roadrunner) from a hawk, and rescued the pope from a burning orphanage when I was blind and deaf and had a broken leg.

Okay, one of those is made up…
