Brainless Fun Movies

I just watched Dazed & Confused for the first time the other day. I loved it for the mindless fun that it was. Matthew McCona-I-can’t-spell-his-name was friggin hilarious! “Yew got a joiiint, maaan? It’d be a lot cooler if ya diiiiid!”

Dude, where’s my car? "Shibby!"and Charlies Angels were the first movies that came to my mind. I agree wholeheartedly with Big Trouble in Little China and Army of Darkness. “Ah baby, that’s just what we call pillow talk.”

I second or third Charlie’s Angels. Even Dude where’s my car has a message compared to this one. But oh lord pure fun.
Favorite scene- Drew Barrymore kicks multi-butt …King Kong Palm, Buddha on Lotus, Kicking your ass.

“Brainless fun” to me means a movie that you don’t have to stretch your mind over to figure out what’s going on. No hidden plot twists in the end, clearly defined bad guy(s), character motives are understandable and uncomplicated, and yet the movie remains entertaining because of how it tells it’s story. So lemme throw a few more into the pit:

**Last Action Hero

Friday

Nemesis** (okay, practically anything with Tim Thomerson in it)

**Meatballs

Swamp Thing

Modern Problems

Tank Girl**

Japanese Godzilla movies

**Morons From Outer Space

Summer Lovers

Independence Day

The Blob** (1988)

Gawd, there’s so many more…

Goonies

Never heard of the Marx Brothers?

Earth Girls are Easy

Charlies Angels
Gone in 60 Seconds
The Replacements (why did everyone hate this? OK, so it is obvious and cliched but I thought it was quite funny)
Independance Day

Every Troma movie.

Beer
(no the movie is really called that)
Animal House
Burgler
Raising Arizona

Nothing thought provoking, or lesson learning,
or ripping historical aspects of a movie
just fun and mindless (no thinking involved)

Legally Blonde
Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion
Buffy The Vampire Slayer - The Movie
Grosse Point Blank
Pretty Woman
Sugar and Spice
Four Weddings and a Funeral

probably others that I can’t think of

Resident Evil-I had my doubts that this was even worth watching the first time I saw it, but I’m actually thinking of renting it when it comes out on video.

Dumb and Dumber-I also have the soundtrack on permanent loan from an ex-boyfriend.

There’s Something About Mary

The Full Monty

Addams Family Values-particularly the summer camp play, the Clockwork Orange treatment of family films, and the moment Wednesday smiles for the first time.

Saving Grace

Hot Wet American Summer

I’ve always claimed that The Last Starfighter is THE perfect drive-in movie. Lots of fun, and you don’t have to think too hard in the hot summer night.

Smokey and the Bandit

It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World

Better Off Dead…

and Goonies!

So many great choices, I’d have to second lots of them. So I’ll throw in a few not mentioned:

After The Fox
Tango & Cash
Anything with Jackie Chan
It’s In The Bag - an old Fred Allen flick from the 40s, but worth seeking out if you want a fun movie.
Buck Benny Rides Again - a Jack Benny flick based around him going on vacation during the summer hiatus of his radio show. Great brain fluff.

I used to watch the last two endlessly whenever they turned up on AMC.

Also,

“Well then, I’m happy and sad for you”

Also have to second Airplane and Caddyshack

I second many that have been mentioned, and add “Leaving Normal”. That one was just plain fun!
