Brasil 2014

So, you guys are saying I DIDN’T need to set my DVR to record for an extra hour and a half? Why are the most entertaining games the ones I miss?

I’m just laughing at the screen. If I was Brazilian it wouldn’t be so funny. Germany’s fantastic today - and, of course, Brazil isn’t exactly living up to their name . . .

Is it just me or are some of the commentators unfairly harsh on the German team? One of them just called Germany “merciless.” It’s like, no duh, it’s soccer. You see an opportunity to score, you score. Unless you’re cheating, it’s not some moral failing or sign of nastiness to score a bunch of goals.

Oh, and I’m looking back at that 1-0 score in the Germany-US match and not feeling quite so bad.

I remember the thrashing Germany gave Saudi Arabia a few world cups back. This might exceed it, Brazil is just playing shamefully. The pickup games I play on weekends have better quality.

Oh, ETA: Go Germany!! Happy memories of youth haha

After the fifth goal, there was a crowd shot of a little Brazilian kid bawling his eyes out.

If Brazil is still haunted by losing 2-1 to Uruguay in 1950, what the heck might this do? Although maybe a comical farce of a loss will be less damaging than an agonizing nail-biter.

The funniest thing is, I thought Brazil looked the better side for the first five or ten minutes — for instance they were beating Germany on possession, which is no small feat. They seem to have collapsed after the first goal, and not woken in time to catch the next four.

38 years without a loss at home, and now this.

They are going to get hung drawn and quartered.

I going to take this opportunity, yet again, to mention that I picked Germany as tournament winners several months ago.

I hereby assert my man-rights to bathe in smugness for as long as I can.
Brazil are woeful here but you have to applaud the way the Germans slice through them on the break.

It is a bit of a perfect storm, you’ve Germany on a good night and the Brazilians on a bad night.

Bloody hell.

They have this frustrating habit of rarely being better than necessary.

You would have to think Germany are strong favorites to win the whole thing now; indeed it would be rather hilarious if they ended up losing after this game.

This picture is probably is worth more than a 1000 words.

Brazil haven’t shipped 5 goals in Brazil since 1939 against Argentina.

It’s compulsory for pundits to call Germany “ruthless” and “efficient”, sorry. The BBC guy here has already used both, and I have no doubt Alan Hansen will be at it at half time.

Nossa senhora. Gonna be a somber night at the Turnip household.

There’s going to be a right party atmosphere at the 3rd/4th place play-off!

US 0-1 in a full game, and Brazil 0-5 in half a game, so US is ten times better than Brazil. Mathematically.

And Brazil keeps losin possession again and again…

I have the feeling that the Brazilian squad is reeling (well; who wouldn’t, after such a drubbing in less than 30 minutes?). Will they choke, like Spain clearly did in front of the Dutch? Have they begun to choke already?

I was definitely NOT expecting this when the game began. Christ on a crutch…

The German keeper risks being the only player on his team not to score today. Does that explain his tendency to play to far off his line?

Wow, I admit I was wrong about Brazil winning this WC. I did think they would have Neymar though.

“Brazilian tears taste so sweet!” -Cartman

Based on tonight’s performance, the US is ten times better than Brazil fullstop…ally.
