Bread Machine Mixes

I am not sure if this should go in GQ since it likely has a real answer, or here because it’s about food.

Back around Christmas time, while trying to figure out what to bring to various parties and get togethers and figuring out cheap gifts and such, my husband expressed his heart’s desire for Krusteaz Bread Machine Mix Cinnamon Raisin Bread. Of course, the only mixes we COULD find (and even THAT wasn’t easy) weren’t for the cinnamon raisin one we’d made a few years ago. So we made something else. I don’t remember what, it was that forgettable.

In any event, I was able to find the product on line at a very reasonable price although I have to buy six boxes of it. This will be a nice Valentine’s Day Gift for my husband so I am thinking about placing the order.

My problem is, does anyone know how long these boxed mixes are good for? What their shelf life is? I ain’t gonna buy no six boxes if it’s going to go bad in a month or two!

Any help would be appreciated.

I’ve used those mixes. As long as you use fresh yeast, they should be good for quite a bit. Months, minimum.

You could look at the mixes available on grocery shelves - they should have expiration dates on them. That’ll give you an idea of what the mail-order stuff should be like. I imagine they’re good for a year or more though of course don’t push the expiration date - as silenus notes, yeast freshness is critical.

Of course, if the stuff is tasty, and you’ve got a bread machine, making it up is so easy that there’s no reason to delay using it. I doubt you’ll have to worry too much about it expiring
