Break time for Unclviny

Some of us are more easily set off than others of us.

“I’m leaving, only not really.”

It didn’t work. Try a few more months next time.
Oh, well, one less drama queen here. Somehow I think we’ll manage.

What the FUCK does that mean? Huh? Who the hell do you think you are!!! C’mon your jagoff. Right now. Out in the street!!! Let’s go!!!

Maybe after my nap.

The irony… it burns with the rage of a large can of Sterno, three matches and a glow plug.

Question;
Since the thread was moved to the Pit, shouldn’t unclviny get his warning rescinded? I mean, the thing was headed there anyway, it’s not unclviny’s fault the OP started the thread in the wrong forum is it?

:dubious:

Nice. I’m actually starting to anticipate your appearance when I post, Liberal. I figured I’ve have to try to explain this to you. Though Lute Skywatcher has spared me the effort of linking to your own feelings on the subject.

Misspelling words and writing badly are not issues of grammar and not subject to dialectual variation. unclviny is not a native speaker of a dialect of bad spellers, or people who can’t write according to the rules of English orthography. I understand that, for those who are ignorant of linguistics, it can be difficult to reconcile the teaching of “grammar” in school with the more technical definition of it, but my reference to unclviny’s grammar was intended as a criticism of his nonadherence to English orthography, not as a condemnation of his grammar in the linguistic sense. It was a nontechnical use of the word, because I was foolishly hoping to avoid having to give this definition. What I defend (remember those threads on the word “nucular”?) is dialectual variation, because I don’t think people should be ridiculed on account of their native dialect, which from any objective perspective is as legitimate a tool for self-expression as Standard English. On the other hand, everyone who can write has the opportunity to learn to write properly, and we have technology to handle spelling for us. These are not matters of social differences, just ones of laziness that are rather irritating in a text-only medium.

Well, that certainly makes sense. Thanks for explaining, Excalibre.

Not to break the momentum, but come back soon.

The more important question is whether you can explain Lute Skywatcher’s link.

Pretty comparable situation, really - you scolded (sparing none of your harshness, I must say - even for you, the metaphor was impressive in its scatology) someone for pointing out a seeming inconsistency in two of Weirddave’s posts, though they were only hours apart.

Answer: Uh, No. It’s up to the poster to figure out what forum they’re in and keep the language appropriate for that place. If you’re driving to the red light district for a hooker, it isn’t appropriate to solicit girls in front of the middle school, even though your car “was headed there anyway.” :dubious:

Unclviny, don’t let the self-important get you down. It’s only a message board. Real life is lurking just outside.

I for one have enjoyed your presence here, especially given our common musical ground.

The glow plug was a nice touch.

Since when have YOU not been a drama queen?

Well, that’s one less fo rthe competition, donchaknow?

Later, bitch.

It was RTFirefly that I scolded so harshly. It was wrongheaded of me and there was no reasonable excuse, which was why I apologized. RT is a gentleman, which is why he accepted my apology, saying there was no problem. But if you will instruct us both on how to resume the dispute, and how we should resolve it to your satisfaction, perhaps we can try a do-over.
