I had strange dreams last night. I dreampt (is that a word?) that my Mother was kidnapped from the little town nearest where she lived. Turned out she was in town with Louie and she was taken and Louie was turned in to a shelter. They read his microchip and notified us and that is when we discovered Mom was missing. Now my mom has been gone for 17 years, did not drive and Louie was not even born then. The brain does strange things. I guess since it was Mother’s day she was on my mind.
I think we lasted a day after the last we lost one unexpectedly. Generally we know it’s coming and get one before the older one goes.
This reminds me. I wanted to remind you all to be careful about this ransomware thing. I worked for 15+ years in the computer security industry. Once you are infected, the only way out (other than paying the bastards) is to wipe the machine and restore from a backup. **This is your friendly reminder to backup your PCs **(Macs aren’t affected by this) to be safe. Don’t click on anything you think is remotely weird. Better to close all windows or even the browser (or even power down) than take the chance. These usually look like pop ups that say you’ve been infected by a virus. News stories may have the actual images of some of them.
I had strange dreams too. Mostly really weird dreams about work. Bleah.
Anyhoo. Still having that colitis thing. I manage to eat about one thing a day, which makes me sick as a dog, but I need to try for some nutrients. Other than that, Gatorade is my friend.
Weather here is mostly cloudy, with highs in the 60s. Plans for the day include buying dog food and visiting the bank.
Oh yeah, breakfast. Mostly I don’t eat it. When I do, it is English muffins with peanut butter.
Happy Moanday everyone!
My work day is about over, which is great. My brain is fried. I don’t know if I’ll stop on the way home today. I think supper will be ravioli - maybe I will stop and get a sack o’salad. Sounds like a plan.
It is *hot *outside. I just went for a walk and I almost melted.
Sunny, thanks for reminding me to check my backups. Looks like my last one was cancelled unexpectedly. Must have put the computer to sleep before it finished. I do that sometimes.
I looked over some freelancing things this morning. Did you know there is a such thing as freelance proofreaders and transcriptionists? I’m looking into those. Freelance writing is all right, but I want to save that skill for my own personal use right now. I have a couple of stories I want to revise and send out to places.
I am happy with my new record player - at least the record-playing part. I haven’t tried recording from it yet. I’ll need to clean my desk first.
Time to feed Higgs. Meanwhile, **FCD **still isn’t home…
spidey, ruble hit the nail on the head. You rarely see a bicycle on the tail. I know that would scare the bejeebers out of me. I’ve ridden it twice on my bike (old Kawasaki sport bike), once on the back of a Valkyrie aand once on the back of a CanAm. I’ve seen a wipeout that required life flight and a couple that made do with an ambulance.
metal mouse, I always went for a patty melt or breakfast at Huddle House.
During the week, breakfast is eaten at my desk and consists of an egg on flatbread or pita with cheese and hot sauce washed down by a 16 oz. mug of coffee with stevia and milk. On the weekend, if at home, it’s usually a couple of eggs over easy, two strips of baconand toast or a breakfast casserole. If I go out, it’s either to a potluck or I get an omlet. Sometimes breakfast is supper.
Today, I walked into 42 gazillion emails, all wanting something done yesterday. On top of that, our coordinator brought some adjustment requests that would require the learning of a new addition to our system. The cherry on the top was that the requestor made a couple of typos (those I could amend) and one that was 180 degrees from what it should have been. That one I sent back to her to re-do, resubmit through Finance and I’ll do it tomorrow. Growth and development.
Laundry is in the dryer and the rest of the evening is chillage.
If I grab something before owrk ,it’s fast food. Days off, it’s bacon ,eggs, hasbrowns.
I usually don’t wait long ,either. Figure a rescue was the best tribute to the last dog.
Howdy Y’all! Home from men’s night over to the church house. We had a larger than usual crowd which is always a good thing. Steak, sallit, baked N.O.T. with sour cream and butter, bacon wrapped asparagus, bizkits, and apple and cherry crisp for dessert. Da bear has a full and very happy tummy!
Spent some time in various window shops, trying to get smarter about it. Think I know what I am going to look for when I go out for estimates and I think I can stay within my budget. Also looking at replacing my house doors at the same time.
The after nappage I refereed a soccer game in a nearby region because the lady in charge is a friend and asked me to. Stopped at Farmburger for dinner just to see how good it is (verdict: Not bad but not worth a 20 mile trip unless I’m in the area). Now home and in relax mode.
Hot week expected, high 80’s reaching 90, so I may have to haul out the sprinklers and give the lawn some relief.
Somewhere a hockey game is going on; it may even be over. But the Burgh is silent.
Almost too silent.
Whiskeypalians do put on a spread.
Flightless birds won.
Had the heat on today, the Nor’Easter backed up over us and the house was below 65.
Forecast for Thorsday? 90+
Ah…good old Onslow If you want to be pedantic, a bunch of bacon between two slices of bread is a bacon sarnie, if it’s going to be a proper bacon butty then it needs to involve a bread roll of some sort. I’ve got some cheese-topped rolls from the local baker that are perfect for this.
It was a bacon sarnie this morning as I was down to the end of a loaf of protein bread so I used the two crusts and shoved a bit extra bacon in there to compensate for the extra thickness of bread.
It’s been an interesting couple of days here. Some students (and invigilators) had a lot of trouble getting to campus for exams yesterday as contractors on a building site near a main road which leads to a big motorway junction uncovered a 500lb WW2 bomb! Roads were closed immediately within a 500m radius of the site and both the main road and two motorway junctions were shut. The cross-city rail line which also serves the campus station was closed as the line runs right by the road that’s closed. One of my friends said it took her 3hrs to get home last night and she is expecting her journey in to be just as bad today.
I was lucky, the closures are on the other side of the expressway from where I happen to be, so my only delays have been down to trespassers on the rail lines and my journeys have been pretty much ok so far.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to work.
Boofae,
Dang - what’s with all the bombs showing up these days?? Didn’t they just uncover some in Germany a week or so ago?
I woke around 3:30. I couldn’t fall back to sleep because my brain wouldn’t shut down… till about 10 minutes before the alarm went off. Dammit. So I’s tahred.
Yesterday, I unpacked and set up my new turntable and listened to a couple of records. It’s not the greatest fidelity, but I got to listen to Art Garfunkel’s Angel Claire album for the first time in ages - I love it!!! Some time this weekend, I’ll see how well it works with the computer. I need to find a home for it, tho - it can’t sit on the breakfast bar forever.
Meanwhile, I have a pile of stuff on my desk, so it should be a productive day… as long as I can stay awake.
Happy Tuesday!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’ YAWN ‘Tis 64 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 94 and N.O.S. for the day. I have some laundry to get done this mornin’ but no plans beyond that. I foresee some quality cee-mint pond time this afternoon just cause I can. OYKW will be back sometime tomorrow later afternoon. I’ll be glad when he’s back. He’s not goin’ back to irk until Moanday so we’ll have some time to spend together which we really haven’t had as of late. YAY!
BooFae  Seventy-two years later and still findin’ unexploded WWII bombs. WOW! No tellin’ how many more may be out there all over Europe.
Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants sustenance. Then I suppose I should purtify a bit and get laundry started. Such a hard life I live!
Happy Tuesday Y’all!
Europeans find all kinds of interesting things when they dig. Ancient coins, old swords, unexploded WWII bombs. Meanwhile I’ve never even found an arrowhead.
So is you saying do it or stay away?
Metal Mouse went window shopping & came home with…windows; blond jokes just write themselves.
Shouldn’t that be Boomfae?
I was sneezin’ my haid off yesterday; Coach tried to point out I was sitting on a turf field & it’s not grass. I replied I think it’s trees that get me…but there’s none of those in the stadium either. :dubious:
Still stuffed upped.
Do the British still have bomb disposal units? Are robots used, like the Israelis?
