Breaking Bad 3/28/10 OPEN SPOILERS

As I remember the first season, Jesse was living there because the aunt had supposedly left the house to him, but his parents actually held the title (either because of his age or drug use). So there was an episode (possibly in the second season) where they evicted him.

I’m wondering how on earth Jesse is able to spend that much cash w/o bringing the IRS all over his ass. Was it ever properly laundered?

I know they set up that cancer donation website to help clean the money, but Jesse would still have to declare it as income - not to mention anytime more than $10,000 is spent in cash, the IRS is notified.

I’ll bet that Saul knows how to launder money and took care of this for Jesse. The parents’ lawyer seemed leery of Saul, so I think he knows that he’s a sleazy lawyer. And remember how Jesse said that they needed a criminal lawyer with the emphasis on criminal?

He wouldn’t have had to break in if she hadn’t changed the locks, which IMO was much weirder than Walt moving back into his own house. It’s not like he was beating her.

Honestly, if I’d discovered my husband was cooking meth? I’d change the locks.

And just as a matter of course if I was going through a divorce (hey! I’m a poet and I didn’t know it!), I’d probably change the locks anyway.

Very nice suspenseful ending to this episode. I’m going to conjecture that Gus will get Walter back to cooking by somehow using Skyler, maybe even abducting her. At this point we know that Gus is quite powerful in his underworld connections. And, once again, I’m reminded by how much I love the Saul character.

I wonder how much time it takes to make his hair look that crappy.

Towards the end of the second season Walt let Jesse know on several occasions that Saul “has your money” in case Walt wasn’t around anymore.

It was in the deserts of New Mexico.

No they fled to Mexico. That’s why his cousins were on their way to the house with Tuco’s dad, to smuggle them back into New Mexico.

I thought Tuco (and the old mute, Tio) were still in New Mexico when Tuco was killed. When DEA Hank was tracking Jesse’s low rider, it didn’t seem like Hank crossed the border. And Walt and Jesse didn’t need to sneak back over the border.

The confusion over Mexico is probably due to Tuco’s plans to take Walt with him to a new meth super lab located in Mexico and run by Tuco’s Cartel connections.

The twin killers are definitely part of the Cartel and were sent by Tio to kill Walt as retribution for Tuco’s death. It remains to be seen how Gus (Mr. Pollos) fits into all this.

I think his dad not inviting Jesse to dinner cost him $475,000. Not that Jesse would have paid full price- he doesn’t have that kind of money (he has about $600k IIRC) but he probably wouldn’t have bought the house. Not that I blame his parents for not giving him title- he already half destroyed the place and would have just sold it for drug money. I’m guessing Walt is going to move in with him, which means Walt Jr./Flynn might learn more about his dad’s doings.

I wonder if John DeLancie is done with the show or if he’ll be back. I can see him coming after Jesse at some point. (What would happen to a man like him if this were real life? Obviously his career is over but would he likely face any kind of criminal negligence charges?) I also expect a victim’s family to somehow surface.

And yeah, I think one of Saul’s specialties is money laundering. The house is probably owned by a dummy corporation and leased to Jesse or something like that because Saul knows the IRS would be on them both and he’s going to protect himself.

I wonder if “Pollos” employs the Mexican brothers or if he’s their real target or if they’re scared of him. Even though he’s had very little screen time he’s a great character; you get the notion he could hold your baby and she’d be perfectly safe, or that he could kill you with a spork and dispose of your body and never lose a second of sleep.

I am pretty sure that Gus is overseeing pretty much everything that’s happened or will happen in season three. Tio may have ordered the cousins to kill Heisenberg as retribution, but their main employer is still likely to be Gus. Saul’s PI knew this and called Gus to call off his henchmen that were there on a “side matter”.

The call to Gus probably went something like this, “Your twin hitmen guys are about to kill Heisenberg.”

Gus then called them with a message that was probably along the lines of, “Don’t kill him unless you like dying also.” Only more professional I’m sure. :stuck_out_tongue:

According to the sneak peek of episode 3 on AMCTV’s website:

The Cousins are employed, or are family members of Tuco’s grandfather and so by extension Tuco himself. Tuco’s grandfather wants retribution for Tuco’s death, and that means Walt has to die and the Cousins were sent to do him in. The Cousins were called off by Gus because Gus still believes Walt is a “business partner” and won’t allow him to be killed until their business relationship is over, which I take to mean that Gus expects Walt to be cooking for him again soon. Gus promises Tuco’s grandfather that as soon as his business with Walt is finished, he won’t stand in the way of the grandfather’s revenge.

I think some of the above commentators are attributing too much power to Gus.

IMHO, here what’s happened

1)Tuco is killed
2)Tuco’s higher-ups/partners decide on retribution
3)they send out some pretty distinctive killers
4)Gus, being an established drug trafficker, probably gets his supply from multiple sources, and obviously knows the regional players. He also knows of Tuco’s death, and possibly Walt’s link to it.
5)Gus wants Walt to keep cooking, and makes an offer. This is after the killers have already left. After getting rejected, he sends out Saul to try. That fails, but Walt mentions about his failing marriage. Saul passes that on to Gus, who hires out the enforcer.
6)The enforcer spots the killers entering the house. Calls it in.
7)Gus, based on his knowledge and acumen, figures out who the killers likely are, and gives them a call, for a favor.

Sounds pretty good. One thing though, Gus text messaged them one word, “pollos”. How would they know how to interpret that? Couldn’t that mean “I want to talk, meet me at the usual place”?

Was that a SMS or the caller ID display with the ringer off? Maybe, off camera, one of the killers took the call, and simply listened as Gus briefly asked for the favor.

Had to be caller ID followed by Gus or someone talking. It was just fancy storytelling to cut away after the one word message

They must already know Gus. It’s the same text he sends to Walt, and I’m assuming anyone else when he wants to meet with them. I think this shows that Gus has some pretty high standing. The twins drop everything because they know this guy wants to meet, and he wants to meet NOW. They probably had planned to take their time with Walt. I think it was definitely supposed to be revenge for Tuco, and the axe was to make it messy and send a message to anyone else who wants to mess with the cartel.

I think Gus has a different way of doing business, and he seems smart, so he’ll probably convince the cartel to not kill Walt and instead accept a large amount of drugs/money in return. Then he’ll tell Walt that the cartel wants to kill him but are willing to drop it if he cooks enough.

Jesse seems to be embracing his “bad guy” side. I like it. It was nice that he at least let his parents break even, though. We’ll definitely see a much different Jesse this season. It’s good, because the screwup Jesse was getting old.

I love this show. Partly for the smart dialog.

Skyler’s BIL: Maybe it’s none of my business, but a father ought to be able to see his kids…

Skyler: You’re right… it is none of your business.
