Breaking Bad 3/28/10 OPEN SPOILERS

I’m surprised somebody as self-preservationist as Gus would have a relationship of any kind with the hitmen. He didn’t reveal himself to Walt at first because Jesse was obviously a screw-up and he’s so down-under profile wise he’s respected by the cops as a model citizen and philanthropist. Two guys who don’t seem to think that the fact they are identical twins and easily ID’d as cartel hitmen by [something to do with] their silver boot tips and who respond to said recognition by slaughtering a dozen people on a highway that for all they knew could be crawling with troopers/minutemen/etc. and walk away without a getaway car don’t seem like the kind of discreet business associates he likes.

and like the week before when Skyler’s nosy sister (whom I hate much more than I hate Skyler) said (from memory, so maybe not 100% accurate): “I can’t help if you don’t tell me what’s wrong!”

Skyler: “I didn’t ask for your help.”

It’s probably impossible to be involved in the drug trade at levels where you’re dealing with $1mil or more, and not be involved with those guys.

I don’t think Gus has anything to worry about associating himself with those hitmen. Even if they get caught, I don’t think any cop will get a word out of them.

Can they even speak? So far I don’t think we’ve seen it. I guess we’ll see if they actually order food at pollos.

I thought that house was way overpriced, but maybe I’m out of touch. There are 91 houses at realtor.com listed for a million or more.

It does seem that way - it’s not San Francisco or something, there’s no shortage of land in ABQ I’d imagine.

For those who don’t yet know, there is an incredibly entertaining podcast about the show. A new podcast comes out every week.

This week they had the writer for this episode, the show’s creator, and the actors who play Hank, Walter Jr., and Marie.

There was one exchange that I found very funny. I’ll paraphrase from memory:

Writer: Something about how if they think of a story, if it doesn’t make sense with the character they will throw it out.

Vince (show’s creator): This is true. For example Walter Jr. was going to have this amazing arc where he goes out and has wild sex with all these college coeds.

Walter Jr: Wait, What?! When did this happen.

Vince: We didn’t feel like it would be true to your character.

Walter Jr: Why! Why not?! That would have been an awesome episode.

Marie: I went in and told them not too.

Walter Jr: I knew it. Hank was going to help out right?

Hank: Oh, I’m still doing it. It felt right for my character.

Another thing you learn from the podcast is that Walter threw the pizza on the roof in one take. No special effects.

That was one of the most awesome scenes I’ve seen in a good while. Knowing it was done in one take with no fanciness only seems to fit.

Seconded. Was it actually planned in advance?

Yes. The script called for Walter to throw the pizza and to have it land on the roof. They weren’t sure how they were going to do, but lucky Cranston got it in one take. That’s why he has two Emmys.

I wish they’d do less Bryan Cranston nudity. More Aaron Paul nudity would be no problem.

Cranston’s contract states that he has to be in his underwear no less than once every 4 episodes.

And in the psychotic break episode, he didn’t even have that much on.

The same contract he had with Malcolm in the Middle evidently.

Hey, now. He’s got nice thighs. And a nice ass.

Shit. I didn’t mean to post that outloud.

Also agreed. I “rewound” and watched it four times.

Yeah, I backed up to watch the pizza throw two or three times myself, marvelling at what a complete nightmare that would be for the director trying to get the shot. I figured it had to be CGI because it was so perfect. That he got it naturally and in one take is all kinds of awesome.

Did you notice it’s an enormous pizza? I wonder if it was weighted or actually a frisbee.

I’ve never seen a pizza box that big, but the actual pizza didn’t look nearly as big as the box it came in.

Can someone identify the cars that Walt and Jesse drive? They’re quite different from the cars we usually see in TV shows. Dull paint, boxy, clunky. Maybe they’re common in NM and elsewhere, but they’d be distinctive around here.
