What an amazing woman she was. So much grace and wisdom.
Well done, Your Majesty. Rest In Peace now.

That is just exactly what they want you to think.
God save the King.
So, I know the national anthem will be slightly altered. But what about the Pistols song?
Actually, many (not all) denominations of Canadian paper currency have featured Canadian prime ministers for many years. Looking through my wallet just now, the Queen’s image is only on the $20. The $10 and $5 have Canadian prime ministers.
As do the $50 and $100 bills. She’s on all the coins, though. I guess Charles’ likeness will be on those, and the $20 bill at some point. But everything in circulation now will remain legal tender, of course. Heck, I was finding King George VI coins in pocket change up until the 1970s or so.
Maybe your experience has been different and an “expected” death did not cause you to blink a tear from your eye.
Of course I find an expected death upsetting and sad, but not a surprise.
Of course her family is in mourning, and I expect her fans, but she is and always was a stranger to me. I feel sympathy for her family and sad at the passing of another human being, but nothing like I’d feel for the passing of a friend, family member, or even someone I actually personally knew as an mere acquaintance.
Question for those in the UK; is there any regular programming on television or radio or is it all memorial stuff?
(For that matter, I’ll bet that most US channels are doing wall-to-wall coverage.)
They gonna have a big coronation with the carriage and everything?
I’m a British national (not subject, since I now have different citizenship) who never had much use for the monarchy, though I never thought it should be abolished. I mourn her passing.
Someone on TV referred to her as “the nation’s favorite twinkly-eyed granny”. It’s strangely appropriate that someone of such worldly stature could also be seen in such human terms.
QE2’s last prime minister was born more than a 100 years after her first one (Churchill) which is rather astonishing.
Since the U.S. declared independence, almost 250 years ago, England has had a queen more often than a king. The combined reigns of Victoria and Elizabeth II account for more than 130 years.
the queen was a good and faithful servant, a life well lived.

I checked BBC America and they were still showing Star Trek: TNG, but as a cable channel they probably don’t have a news set and anchor they can go to for breaking news.

The main channels are all memorial stuff, and are likely to be all night.
BBC America isn’t the same thing. Your cable system may have a BBC World News channel, which may be showing the coverage.

I know, but I still thought it was worth a check.

Whereas, the BBC World News channel on cable is carrying the live coverage from the U.K. BBC.
The funeral is probably going to be quite a big event, with leaders from around the world visiting.

Yep, and hopefully King Charles wont be cavalier about it. That might dog him during his reign.

Including Russia?
I’m sure he’ll be a good boy.
As always, the SDMB is my main go-to for major news events. First heard about it here, and have been following it all morning.
