Breastfeeeding now pornographic, breastfeeders now creating kiddie porn.

Not every woman is a fountain of breast milk that just overflows and is FEASIBLE for pumping.

When I breastfed my son (he’s now 12) I wasn’t a “good producer”. I had to supplement at least twice a day and an hour on a breast pump (yes, I gave it a try), would yield maybe a half an ounce.

All that is totally beside the point, breastfeeding is totally natural, nothing “silly or unnecessary” about it. No need to hide behind closed doors.

What an archaic, barbaric, and ridiculous (in the full meaning of the word) attitude!!!

Do you alphabetize your canned goods and keep the “little woman” barefoot and pregnant too? Sheesh!!

Back to the topic for a moment. An update on the family’s situation. The one-year old has been returned to his parents. The four year old(from a previous marriage) is still in his father’s custody and a custody dispute is beginning. This is taken from the family’s lawyer’s statements on a talk radio show in Dallas this morning. Reported by a listener on an area AP message board

I am unaware of the evidence presented in the custody dispute, but I would hope the ex-husband is not trying to use the charges of child pornography as part of his case to get custody of his son or somehow damage Ms Mercado’s credibility as a mother.

I’ll post a better cite if I can find one(ideally a transcript). In the meantime it is good to hear that the family is a step closer to being re-united. As long as the dispute over the four year-old keeps clear of using this issue as ammunition against Ms Mercado I’d say the worst is probably over. Voting this DA out of office is next on the agenda.

Enjoy,
Steven

I, in contrast to CanvasShoes, was very successful at pumping. And at times, I did choose to pump and bring bottled milk (or formula) instead of nursing in public. An example of a time when I did that was when I was in a wedding. The baby was there, but I didn’t want nursing to interfere with my MOH duties. Another time, I was at the ballpark. I don’t mind nursing in public, but I didn’t want to get caught on the Diamond Cam.

But in the vast vast majority of cases, it’s preferable to nurse rather than bring a bottle.

  1. Nursing provides fresh, sterile milk at just the right temperature.

  2. With nursing, you don’t have to carry and clean all the extra equipment.

  3. It takes much less time to just nurse than to pump and then bottle feed.

#1 is most important–why not give your baby the freshest cleanest milk? #2 and #3 are important too. If you make outings too complicated, you’ll end up choosing to stay home a lot of the time–not good for baby or mommy, and making nursing too complicated leads to early cessation of nursing. Also not good.

What are the disadvantages of nursing in public?

  1. Only you can feed the baby.

  2. A few immature types might get icked out.

#1 is occasionally important enough to make pumping and bottle feeding worthwhile. #2…well, if someone gets icked out, that’s their problem, not mine.

Nursing in public wins.

That might not be possible - he was sworn into a new term in January and was suggesting last year that he wouldn’t run for a third term. And really, if a fake drugs scandal didn’t make a dent, this won’t either.

Crap :frowning:

Clint in Wichita, ever since you’ve started posting on this message board, you’ve been acting like a jerk/asshole/socially inept person. You will either start being nicer, or you’ll leave this message board.

For the Straight Dope

I see NO reason for you to slander ME! Your disagreement with my husband has NOTHING to do with me!

That said, YOU are an ass! You are an idiot of first rank! So perhaps now you can say something about me!:stuck_out_tongue:

Yes! I carry 30 pounds of nursing equipment all the time, I don’t want to carry more. Great post.

The actual title is Skin Tight. The author’s name is Carl Hiaasen, and he’s a favorite of mine (and many others). Everything he’s done is worth reading, but you should particularly look for Tourist Season, Stormy Weather, and Double Whammy. Strip Tease is also great, if you can block the awful movie version from your consciousness.

Psst, Moxmaiden…he ain’t got no teeth, hon. It’s not a flesh wound, it’s just his shit-filled face gumming on your arm. Some mild antibacterial soap should get rid of the germs.

The smell is something else. You may want to see a trollologist for treatment.

Clint, love, be a dear one and let us know you got the memo.

Plus, um, the whole purpose of breasts in the FIRST place is to nurse a baby! Sheesh!

That’s what they’re FOR!!!

SHHHH!!! Don’t tell Playboy[sub]or the demographic of males age 12-81[/sub]!

They have another idea entirely…

I’ve got a question:
I have a cat with kittens. She’s upstairs right now nursing her babies. If I took her picture while she’s flagrantly in the act, would that be animal porn?

I wonder if men who find breastfeeding in public “gross,” have some sort of mother fixation. Hmmm…

Maybe we could work out some sort of arrangement with the men. We won’t breastfeed as long as athletes don’t work up a sweat.

(This post is dedicated to the old boyfriend who kidnapped me because he liked my “baZOOMS.”)

Why is it the very people who say they don’t want to have to see a woman’s breasts while they’re eating are the same ones who enjoy going to topless bars while sucking down beer and the House Special nachos? If that isn’t hipocracy, I don’t know what is.

Even worse, it would be kitty porn.

WORST PUN EVER!

If you take a picture or three, send me a copy? I adore kittens, nursing or not.
