My brother and I are going to a Leftover Salmon concert at Red Rocks, May 5th.
I got a GREAT (free) Condo at Valdoro Mountain Lodge in Breckenridge for 4 nights. Thursday through Sunday. Saturday is booked for the show, but I want to see the best of Breckenridge/Frisco area.
Any suggestions? Particularly enjoy…Beer, Bluegrass music and GREEN:D)
Let me know how it goes. I’m going out west myself in early May but am not hitting Breckenridge because I hear that the mountain trails will most likely still have some snow on them, but if anyone knows differently feel free to correct me on that.
In my experience conditions in the Colorado Rockies in May are *extremely *variable–not only from year to year, but from day to day. I’ve driven from Durango to Ouray on beautiful 70-degree days and been in almost whiteout conditions on I-70 a few days later. Generally speaking trails in the high country are either snowbound or very wet/muddy in early May.
Just across the street (and across the ski slope) from the Valdoro Mountain Lodge however is the Lehman Gulch which has the Burro Trail. For the first mile it is a great peaceful mountain stream hike, which is good because that may or may not be the furthest it is not snowed in at. Beyond the first mile it is a nondescript mountain biking trail for the next 3+ miles.
