I would be more cautious if the allegations were of sexual assault, by the way, but nothing here is really all that bad, even if it’s all true. He hit on a sideline reporter. Big deal.
Fair enough. And in fairness to you, I was just thinking back to the Jets locker room scandal with the latina reporter earlier this season and I didn’t remember you bashing the Jets at all. Looking back you didn’t say anything.
The Inez story makes it more likely that Gooddell will impose a punishment on Favre since he just sent out a memo stating how they wouldn’t tolerate any kind of harassment. I don’t think he’ll much care that this happened before his memo went out.
I don’t the the Players Union would allow ex-post-facto enforcement of new policies.
As to the Inez story, I was tempered from saying anything about that because of her history of public, sexual flirtation with players (putting on a bridal gown and asking Tom Brady to marry her, etc.). Not that I think that means she can’t be harrassed or that she was “asking for it,” or anything, but that I think there might have been a context of mutual playfulness going on (or at least that the players perceived such a context) which makes me think the players might not have actually been intending to make her uncomfortable but were interacting with her the way she interacts with them.
I think Goodell should quit trying to be a goddamn schoolmarm and focus on football. Reffing and rule changes are messing up games, and he’s mucking about over some dude’s dick.
But Favre’s looking like a lecherous shitbag, …that’s pretty hilarious.
What pro athlete isn’t? I pretty just always assume they all are.
This is exactly how I interpreted your silence, and it totally torpedoes my earlier statements, so apologies.
everyone on the Internet is making fun of Brett Favre’s penis, but his looks better (bigger) than mine. Should I feel bad?
This doesn’t change the broader point, but the Tom Brady thing was not Inez Sainz. It was a different woman who worked for the same station.
Can I ask a really stupid question?
This whole thing happened TWO YEARS AGO, right?
Who saves voicemails for two years? Sure, she isn’t saying anything but there must be some complicit act involved – or premeditated thought? – to have saved these voicemails for some future use, right? Or is there some technology involved to get access to this now and should I be afraid of some voicemail I left to an ex-boyfriend several years ago?
I don’t know about you, but I never really delete old voicemails. I listen to them the first time, and then they go into the land of “old messages”, where they might remain forever.
I still have the very first voicemail my mother left me when I got a cellphone in 2003.
Yeah, Favre may only be guilty of being a pevre.
:snort!:
What’s weirder to me is that this story broke several months ago, was forgotten about, and then mysteriously resurfaced this week. What exactly happened to put this story back in the news cycle, I wonder?
Deadspin got hold of the pics and the voicemails. A couple of months ago they were only rumors.
Because the Vikings/Jets had a Monday night game, and I wouldn’t put it past the skeezy, money-grubbing NFL to try their hand at reality TV.
Nah. The skeezy, money-grubbing NFL would never allow anything to happen that made Saint Brett Favre Brett Favre Brett Favre, like having pictures of his ugly johnson released.
Yeah, I know; I’m just thinking outside the box.
Seriously, though, the timing is odd.
Oh, well done.
Looks like Favre was thinking about getting inside the box.
Here’s Deadspin’s story about this from early August. It was discussed very briefly on the SDMB at the same time. Sterger was cooperating with the story, which made it something a little stronger than a rumor, but you’re right: they didn’t have the messages before and now they do.
