Brett Favre cleared (sort of) in Sterger affair

What does Favre need to be defended from?

So the words, “Commissioner Goodell could not conclude that Favre violated league policies relating to workplace conduct” is the same as “Brett Favre cleared …” in the Dioverse.

Now in the GO-verse it woudl hav been more like, “Commissioner Goodell concluded that Favre did not violate league policies realating to workplace conduct” is the same as, “Brett Favre cleared…”

What color is the sky n your universe?

I live in a universe where people only have to say things once.

He has not even been accused of anything. I don’t know how much more “clear” you could expect somebody to be.

So how does someone get cleared of something if there isn’t something to be cleared of?

You could just admit he wasn’t cleared of anything…I won’t hold my breath.

I just hope they find this rogue with the Mississippi cell phone and Mississippi accent who likes to send cock shots to people and leave skeevy voicemails for massage therapists and other Jets employees. Yep, I sure hope they catch that guy.

I sure am glad you feel that way. So is Ben Roethlisberger. Oh, wait…

There is no evidence that anybody did any of this. Favre admitted to some innocuous voice mails. There is no evidence that he had anything to do with cock shots. Sterger has never complained that he harassed her. You guys are awfully quick to believe uncoroborrated internet rumors. The reality is that Brett Favre has not been so much as accused of any wrong doing. How is he NOT innocent? What is he NOT clear of? What are any of you alleging? Let’s see the evidence.

exactly.

Unless everyone enjoys interacting with the illogical, masochism is the only other explanation.

I think threads like this cause a certain someone, sitting next to his keyboard with a box of tissues and some lotion, to “spring” into action. As an instant email notification arrives with a response from any of a dozen or so threads he’s currently monitoring, some fast mouse work, followed by some faster one-handed typing and opposite hand wrist motion gets the job done.

He then leans back with a self-satisfied smirk, thinks “Got them replying again!”, and waits for the next notification to arrive. (With his drawers around his ankles, of course.)

<shudder>

Usually I’d leave this to the Game Room mods, but this is way over the line. I don’t think the mods have to protect people from their own reputations, but this is simply obnoxious. Snarky_Kong, dial it back. Stink Fish Pot, your comments are inappropriate for any form except the Pit. I’m giving you a formal warning. Do not do this again.

Fair enough. I will reserve such comments for the pit.

Anybody else hear his comments after the game? Sounded like another retirement announcement to me. The conspiracy theorists will have it that he has to actually do it this time as part of the deal with the Commish.

He’s been saying categorically all year that he would definitely retire after this season (I know he’s said that before, but he was saying it early and often this time and he sounded like he meant it). He doesn’t have to make any deals since he hasn’t been accused of anything.

I meant the deal was that he’d actually honestly retire this time, then neither he nor the NFL would have to deal with any more embarrassment. If he wanted to come back, he’d have to sit out a suspension first.

Why else would this “investigation” have been dragged out this long, except to avoid any blowback while he was still playing? While it was ongoing, the story could be that it was ongoing. With it ended with only days left in the career of one of the league’s greatest stars, there’s no time left for any substantive response by Sterger or for other loose ends to unravel; the story is only “Hey, he’s retired now, what can we do about it?”.

That’s the CT, anyway.

He was already really going to retire this time. I see no need for a conspiracy theory since Sterger never made a complaint.

Lawsuit brought against Favre for sexual harassment

This is based on separate incidents not related to Sterger.

And if even half the shit in that story is true, I’d hate to have any stake in the Jets. They are fucked. Further, if any of it’s true and it turns out the NFL handwaved it away, then the NFL is fucked.

Favre is fucked either way, I give his marriage 6 months or less and she’s going to get plenty. But, if this really breaks the story on “Favre the perv”, then his HOF status could actually end up in jeopardy.

Typical Packer.

Pretty quick to wash your hands of the guy, Dio, considering that you’ve spent so much bandwidth here for the past two years lauding him and his contributions to your Vikings.

That, and all of this allegedly happened while he was playing for neither the Packers nor the Vikings.

I was just pointing out that Sterger never filed a complaint and all we had was internet rumors. These two have at least filed a lawsuit. Who knows if there’s anything to it (they sure waited long enough), but at least someone went on the record and made an accusation this time.

Given that Lawrence Taylor easily made it into the Hall of Fame, despite repeated drug arrests and rehab stints, and filing a false tax return (all before his election), I wouldn’t expect that this would be enough to keep Favre out, unless this winds up being just the tip of the iceberg.

Note: it’s since come out that Taylor also had various sexual escapades, and he’s currently under indictment for statutory rape, for allegedly having sex with an underage prostitute, but all of that occurred (or became public knowledge) after his election to the HoF.
