"Bride of Peace" hitchhiker murdered in Turkey

No wonder he’s lonesome.

At least he admits he’s been drinking.

I don’t see what this poor woman’s death had to do with her politics. This just seems like a crime of opportunity. Sadly, women are raped and sometimes murdered everyday, which may or may not leave the OP laughing hysterically.

I’ve read thousands of post on the SDMB over the past eight years, but none of them ever made me feel sick to my stomach like this one did.

LonesomePolecat, you really are a piece of shit.

See post #17. She was engaging in performance art to send a political message and got killed doing it. Whether her killer had any political motive is another matter; probably not, but he might have.

Yes, I read the article. I really don’t think her killer cared about her politics.

So, are you: trolling, and merely annoying; or sincere, and truly worthless? I like to know these things. (And since you haven’t been back to the thread, I guess that would be: a) an annoying coward; or b) a truly worthless coward.)

I long ago gave up on the idea that most people are basically good, but I gotta admire that this young woman did not, and that she sought to prove it. What a shame that this happened to her.

Aleha ha-shalom–may she rest in peace.

Well, I laughed when this chump got knocked on his ass while attempting a similar journey, but he just had to crawl home with his tail between his legs. I think the means by which these two people failed makes all the difference.

Failing in an endeavor that relies on the kindness and generosity of people: Pretty funny.

Getting murdered and possibly raped in the process: Not so funny.

You’re a snippy little closeted throat yogurt connoisseur.

You know, I’ve got a pretty thick skin and this incident, while sad, doesn’t affect me much. Life can be unfair, shit happens.

The OP on the other hand did affect me. Even trolling that’s some pretty fucked up way of thinking.

That’s a suitcase filled with cheeze.

I don’t think she deserved to die. If someone close to me told me they were going to do something, I’d probably counsel her not to do it…I’d be very worried that something would happen to a woman hitchhiking. Or a man, for that matter. But I think “bitch” is the wrong word–she didn’t do anything bad. She just made a mistake. A bad one, but I’m not seeing the point of the glee that she died. It’s just kind of sad that we can’t trust the goodness of most people.

As a proud liberal, progressive and (gasp) hippie who gives a shit about people other than himself, I’d just like to say: Fuck you, LP.

How conservative of you.

I nominate you for asshole of the century.

I nominate you for this year’s Subhuman Cretin Award.

ETA: Dadgummit, Contrapuntal, you beat me to it. But then he deserves both awards, doesn’t he?

Hey Jon Edward, getcher ass in here! We need your “Biggest Douche in the Universe” trophy!

At the absolute minimum.

Well. Darwin seemed to think it was a good idea, however, in this case, death is certainly not merited.

Even if she’d successfully completed her journey, what would it have really proven? That one person can make their way around the world dressed as a bride? Big deal. It would have been much better for her to spend her life doing meaningful work in trying to change things like poverty, which is certainly a large factor in crime. Obviously she was a woman with ability and a strong desire. It’s too bad she didn’t use that to better the world, at least that way, if she died, her life would at least have meaning. Now, however, it’s as pointless and futile as her death.
