My reaction, as a conservative and as a human being:
This woman made some very foolish, well-nigh idiotic decisions. The fact of the matter is that enough people cannot be trusted, and that makes her journey a very risky one; she was either deluded or hopelessly optimistic.
But you know… I don’t think we ought to be finding any joy in that fact, even though we know it to be true. It is the confirmation of a pretty ugly fact about some of us humans, and we ought to take little joy in being right about it.

You know, I’ve got a pretty thick skin and this incident, while sad, doesn’t affect me much. Life can be unfair, shit happens.
The OP on the other hand did affect me. Even trolling that’s some pretty fucked up way of thinking.

Yeah, what you said.
LonesomePolecat, you’re either a complete fucking idiot or a complete fucking asshole. Probably both.
Crawl back into your hole, and don’t come out. Ever.
Turkey has expressed shame for what happened, I feel disgust. But then people who actually trust people should die from rape and murder. That 'll learn em.
Thank you for identifying yourself as a conservative, at least by implication, as you wrote this. It’s helpful to remind people what conservatives stand for, and why “compassionate conservative” was nothing more than a fabrication by Karl Rove to delude voters.
I’m glad you’re lonesome; I’d feel sad for someone who had to endure being around you.

Don’t you dare lump me in with him. Broad brush paints both ways.

There’s conservatives, and then there’s liberal haters. (And vice versa, of course.) The haters are by far the more despicable.
Christians are fond of saying this. Babies being raped? Happens for a reason. People being tortured? That happens for a reason too. Nothing can just happen because of pure randomness and unluckiness. Everything is either a consequence of prior action, or it’s a part of the master plan to teach you some kind of lesson.
I think it’s easy to say the victim here was “learned” a lesson. But maybe the lesson is really for the rest of us. Maybe God did this to remind us (uselessly, I might add) that there are monsters masquerading as humans. Some of them kill naive innocents standing on the side of the road. And others laugh and share their amusement on the internet.

Please - LP’s primary identification is “heartless savage”, not “conservative”.
To the OP - what the fuck is wrong with you? You’re actually happy about this?? This was not Ted Bundy, not Osama bin Laden, not even a rabid dog, whose death while certainly not outside the bounds of decency, would still be lamentable.

Well, I laughed when this chump got knocked on his ass while attempting a similar journey, but he just had to crawl home with his tail between his legs. I think the means by which these two people failed makes all the difference.
Failing in an endeavor that relies on the kindness and generosity of people: Pretty funny.
Getting murdered and possibly raped in the process: Not so funny.

I have nothing to add, except to say that dude in the quoted article is crazy. He plans to try again after he learns French? How many other languages are there on the way to India? I’d bet at least 15 or 20.
Polecat is getting shellacking by people more skilled than I, so I won’t bother.
That said, there are large numbers of individuals, and more than one local culture, that view all strangers as enemies or potential victims, depending on how tough they seem to be.
She dressed as conspicuously as possible, in a part of the world that doesn’t necessarily welcome non-conformists or strangers.

Man, that’s not something I can agree with. There’s a lot about conservatives I disagree with or flat out don’t like, but damning them by comparison with the subhuman who started this thread is going too far.
It’s against the rules of this board to wish death on anybody, so I won’t do that. Instead, I hope you get gang-raped by a horde of syphillitic maniacs who fuck you raw in every hole and who beat you with baseball bats 'til every longbone in your body is shattered. I hope each of them shits on your face and kicks you in the balls with his steel-toed boots. I hope they video every moment of the process, set it to 80’s music and post it to youtube. I hope stoned kids all over the world watch it at parties, laugh, and argue about which part is the “funniest.” I hope you live to be reminded of it every day until you have your full threescore and ten.
