Freaks and Geeks, by far, my all-time favorite show. I don’t know whether to be sad that they cancelled it so early or glad that it didn’t live long enough to get bad. Every episode was bittersweet, especially since I was the same age as Sam in 1980.
“Hart to Hart,” most definitely. Wagner and Powers made that ABC series one of my most favorites, and one that I keep going back to often (I have both of Sony’s DVD releases-- all they’ve released so far; I wish they’d release more).
I have to go with SGU. It had a lot of unresolved potential and ended on a cliffhanger. Plus it had the prettiest damn special effects I’ve seen on TV. They really should have won an emmy for the sun recharging scenes.
Close second: The Lost Room. Fantastic miniseries with huge potential for ongoing. I’m just glad the original creators are working on a sequel comic book.
Honorable mention: Pushing Daisies, Kings, Firefly, Caprica. For Firefly, I actually quite liked how the movie turned out, so two sequel movies would be better in my mind than a continuation of the series itself.
Oh, yeah–The Lost Room was really great! I like to call it the best Stephen King story not written by Stephen King.
I was very disappointed that they never turned it into an ongoing series (or at least shoot a sequel miniseries). I didn’t know about the comic book–I will look forward to that.
Greg The Bunny - I swear I barely missed peeing on myself due to laughter many times. And I really don’t like Seth Green. My Name Is Earl - but I saw cancellation coming so I wasn’t too sad. Better Off Ted - If they can pick up Cougartown, I don’t see why they couldn’t grab this one up. Different demographic, I suppose. Dead Like Me - They did wrap it up quite well (but the movie should not have been made), but I would have liked to see it go on for a bit more.
I’ll add: The Unit - It had a pretty good run, but I liked it. Though it was getting weak at the end, but I’d have liked to see the writers step it up.
**Still Standing **- They have reruns on ABC Family, and I watch 'em all the time. Jami Getz is (was) hot then, and the cast has (had) good chemistry, IMO. Maybe the kids all started to grow too fast.
**Fear Itself **- NBC’s effort for Thursday night scares, but it didn’t work out too well. So they went to comedy night. It started off slow as a shocker, but it started to get better. Only lasted one season, IIRC.
I don’t remember all the details, but I’ll give it a try. I have it on DVD, but they’re all packed away right now, and I’m not sure which box marked “DVDs” it might be in.
Something prompted Joy and Darnell to do DNA testing on the boys, and it turned out Earl actually was Dodge’s father. There was a flashback to a Halloween party at the Crab Shack, with Earl dressed as a skeleton, and Joy thinking he was someone else. They had a quickie in the bathroom and that was the night she got pregnant with Dodge.
Further DNA tests proved that Darnell was *not *the father of Earl, Jr., to which Joy replied, 'Wellllll…" and that was it. Last episode of the season, meant to be a cliffhanger, but the show was cancelled and that was that.
I wish they had done some sort of wrap-up episode for the DVD release, but no. It just ends like that.
I also agree with Sports Night. I have new candidate: The Drew Carey Show, with the following changes: 1.Kate never left 2.Drew still works at Winfred-Lauder.
Avoiding ones that have already been mentioned: Clone High. A really good animated series that was cancelled after a single season. And ended on a cliff-hanger.
