Bring pie?

Mods, feel free to move this to the appropriate forum.

I somehow thought that the expression “When come back, bring pie!” was from The Princess Bride, but perusing the quotes on IMDB proved fruitless.*

Someone please enlighten me: WTF does this refer to??

*Perhaps it’s in the movie but IMDB deemed it unworthy of archiving…

I don’t know if it was the origin, but I think it came to the SDMB from a flash cartoon here

Weebl & Bob is indeed the origin. I (like to) believe that I was the one who introduced it to the SDMB.

I don’t know how those guys did that without cracking up…

pie pie pie pie pie pie pie pie!

Thank you jjimm… I can’t stop laughing.

Now I have another great time waster.

There is some great Weebl & Bob desktop wallpaper too.

Don’t ask. Just bring.

wanker

I only recently saw that on MTV (Weebl & Bob) “so that’s where they get it from”

we co ba, bri pi

*That’s * where that comes from???

I’ve only recently discovered Weebl, but that expression I’d always assumed came from some famous piece of literature, or some classic movie, or perhaps a famous quote from the queen of England.

wow.

Another couple of Straight Dope memes - I’m embarassed to admit I can’t figure out where these came from:

  1. 1920s death ray…

  2. “In Soviet Russia, the lunch eats you!” (and variations on this formula)

1920s style death rays is a fairly new phenomenon. Read the GQ thread on scalar weapons (or at least, the thread that started on scalar weapons) from the beginning, and take note of an unfortunate and historic triple-post by Dogface.

This is a variation of a routine used by a comedian in the US (who I believe defected from the USSR) named Yakov Smirnoff. I managed to that pieced together from an episode of Family Guy (it is educational!). Here’s his website.

It’s times like this that I’m glad that I was there to witness the birth of “Assclown” (hint: it happened in #straightdope…)

so btw, why is ‘hi opal’ always in a list of stuff?

[From the Department of Beating a Dead Redundant Horse Repeatedly Redundancy Department]
We really really really oughtta have a sticky thread, an entry in the FAQ, or somesuch other to cover all this stuff, just for the bandwidth savings, if nothing else.
[/FtDoBaDRHRRD]

[sub]Of course, since I’m not willing to write/update/maintain/host such a sticky thread my own lazy self, I’ll just shut up now.[/sub]

I think that when you try to post a new thread, there should be a check-box that you must check, saying something like, “I have read the FAQ (link) and my question is not one of those answered there.”

Yes, I know a lot of people would blindly check it and post the “-gry” question again, but it might save us from a few of the more egregious repeating threads in GQ. (“All your bases”, “Og”, “Gotcha ya”…)

I like the way you think, lad. (I think I postulated putting a multiple choice question at the end of the registration process, making sure folks had at least browsed through the FAQ, but 'twere a while ago, now.)

Oh yeah. Meant to address this earlier, but, well, I’m an idiot, and completely forgot. shijinn, the “Hi Opal” thing refers to folks posting a “list” which consisted of only two items.
Example:

  1. A list needs some substance
  2. Generally, this means more than just two things
  3. Hi Opal.

A poster to these h’yar boards (with the words Opal and Cat in her user name) suggested that two items do not a list make, prompting a whole lotta folks to pad out two item lists with “Hi Opal” as the third item, to satisfy the conditions of said poster. Of course, lists of more than three items still crop up with the “Hi Opal” thing, pretty much beating an old joke into an early grave.

Or an early joke into an old grave, take your pick.

All your Opal pie belong to us and our 1920s style death rays.

Gotcha ya!

Damn, NoClueBoy. Don’t think that one can be beat.
