Brit Dope Winter 2003

:dubious: Hmm… You all cheated. The Gals won fair and square, with no scratching or clawing involved whatsoever. :stuck_out_tongue:

On certain days in Nov. and Dec. I can fly round trip from LA to London for approximately $245! I am laughing out loud, reading your comments, and something tells me a good time will be had by all.

I have a dear non-Doper friend in Lichfield. Is that anywhere near
the potential event??? I could stay with him, but I’m not too keen
on having to drive myself anywhere. Sheesh, I did it in Australia and didn’t kill anyone (unless you count the thousands of cane toads on the road), I suppose I could do it there.

BTW, been to Taipei, and yes Asia is exotic, but Amsterdam is THE place to be. I long for a nice Dutch family to adopt me, then I can pack up and leave California once and for all. (preparing for the worst case scenario from today’s election).

Its Britain - compared to the States, everything here is close by.

But seriously, Lichfield is near Birmingham, and so it should be a two to three hour train journey in total (not ten minutes!) to get from Lichfield to London. Its going to take me an hour and a half tonight from Birmingham

Eva - its looking like the event will happen on the 29th. But even if this “official” dopeFest doesn’t happen on then, there’d still be sufficient people who’d come together for an “unofficial” one if you happened to be in the country at the time.

Kferr, paulberserker and I met up with Wendell Wagner a couple of weeks ago for example.

I have consulted with the sheep and at the moment Guillaume is keen to attend (the event does contain alcohol and he is French). He will probably bring a friend - perhaps Henry, who is quiet and doesn’t get out much. Or Amy and Augusta, the elderly sisters. They can get quite rowdy after a few sherries.

Also re: the quiz: while it’s great fun, could we keep the length of it down to one hour or so? I did enjoy the last one but it did take a very large portion of the evening and it’s nice to have lots of time left for chat and poking each other with sticks and such.

I hope bibliovore can attend. And I’ll see if I can get My Friend Steve to come again too.

Why not just find a pub with a quiz machine?

Because the quiz machines cheat. The quiz machines are biased in favour of the [B[Guys** :sulk:

And they don’t ask the interesting questions, to which the answer is 56, for example.

Yeah, but the quiz machines allow me to shape the universe according to the Anguaverse.

Everybody bring a different set of Trivial Pursuit questions, then.

Although I was not at this fabled Dope extravaganza which is now firmly embedded in the general myth and legend of the SDMB where there was a guys vs girls quiz, I was at the last LonDope where I was on the non-winning team.

Now, as far as I recall - and I sincerely apologise to the injured parties if I am incorrect - there were only six women there: Anahita, Sir Doris, SciFi Sam, Francesca, Tansu and me and there were ooooooooooooooooooodles of men, so if this same outrageous gender imbalance existed at the previous quiz, then the sheer weight of numbers would surely make the result highly dubious and the resultant gloating nothing short of shameful?

However, if there was a 50:50 split, then consider me shushed.
Of course, if there were more women there than men than it is entirely justified, and you boys may form an orderly queue to come and tick me off.
:stuck_out_tongue:

Aanyway, I hope you all have fun and I belatedly second Anahita’s idea of a DubDope shortly, keep your eyes skinned for a new thread and yiz are all cordially invited.

Where do most of the activities take place?

Kinda hard to find a place to stay without knowing which area is withing stumbling/waddling distance.

Anyone looking for hotels, try www.smoothound.co.uk and sort by price. You’ll find everything from 35-300 quid per night.

To add to the farm managerie, I’d happily bring Moosey… and Kal:smiley:

Us getting that right goes down as one of my proudest but geekiest moments of all time.

I prolly won’t be able to make it, there’s a lot of birthdays around end Nov beginning Dec including my own… but if you need a “phone a friend” in the quiz…

Curly Chick, we were indeed outnumbered! And to add to the menagarie, I shall bring Ducky…

whats all the talk of sheep? im missing something here.

These are my small sheep (click on pictures for profiles). I usually have at least one about my person at any time.

Several more have joined the flock since that site was set up, including Magnus, the Icelandic conceptual artist, and Charity the chemist.

Ooh do bring Magnus, I’m sure he could improve on many of the installations at Tate Modern.

very cutesy. you make these?
