Don’t quite a few women make that decision? I thought that was fairly common.
I read somewhere she said that her mother told her childbirth was extremely painful so she wanted to have an operation. Okay, that’s fine if she preferred c-section, but she did so to avoid pain? Hello, you’re going to be in a HELL of a lot of pain afterwards.
But then, she’s not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer-marrying K-Fed proved that.
I roll my eyes at them, too. Having been through a c-section, I can assure you that abdominal surgery is not less painful than labor.
Did she actually give birth on a bearshin rug?! How would one launder the rug afterwards?
The narrative was stupid and selective. One honors “family values” by taking on a mate with a preexisting family? And then an “artist” encourages borderline young motherhood?
If you really want to give birth uniquely, consider giving birth in a pool. That was the big fad about 10 or so years ago. blub blub wahhhhhhhhhhhhh
This thread is better suited for Cafe Society.
I’ll move it for you.

You’d get more for it on eBay if you don’t wash it.
OK, even I though that was gross. My apologies.
Oh, that poor child. Can you imagine going on a field trip to the museum with your class one day, and end up seeing a statue of your mother, giving birth?
“Hey, look! There I am! …EWWWW!”
You guys must have missed the part of the text where the artist acknowledges he drew his inspiration
“The artist admits to using references that include the wax figure of a pole-dancing Britney at Las Vegas’ Madame Tussauds”
I dunno, I’ve known two women who went through both methods who said C-section was a lot less painful. But who cares? It’s preposterous to question Britney Spears’s decision to have a C-section. Good for her. It’s her body and her baby.
What I don’t understand is how this sculpture is of Britney Spears. I looked at the face, and it doesn’t look like Britney Spears at all. I pulled up a photo of her and put them side by side and I just don’t see a lot of similarity.
Perhaps so, but when most women do it, you don’t get artists celebrating natural childbirth by sculpting them pushing it out on a bearskin rug.
As for the piece in question, well, I won’t dispute that it’s art. The artist is clearly trying to establish an emotional connection, and it’s not even too hard to figure out what that connection’s supposed to be. But it doesn’t actually succeed in making that connection, so I therefore have no qualms at all about saying that it’s bad art. And the purported connection to Ms. Spears may well bring the piece publicity (which was, after all, the whole intention), but it doesn’t make the art any better.
Considering who she married, a filthy, body-fluid stained rug probably wouldn’t bother her.
Trashy would have been if the statue had the tattoos, as well.
My hunch is this is total bullshit. I’m with RickJay, in that it doesn’t look a bit like Britney Spears in any respect, and the press release seems overly reverent and pretentious, and the references to “Pro-Life” don’t make any sense. My feeling is that the “art project” isn’t the sculpture itself, but the gallery or artists attempting to make a statement on how any old crap can get a lot of attention by simply attaching a celebrity name to it.
If they aren’t that smart, then they simply titled the sculpture after it was made in hopes that it would get some press. You can’t blame artists for doing what they can to get attention. It’s not like it’s an easy living…
I think something like this has to be right.
There’s just something… wrong… with the text accompanying the photos in the OP’s link. I was really ready to call this a hoax or a piece of satire til I googled it and saw this is for real.
The statue looks nothing like britney. The explanation of the rationale as found in the text accompanying the photos… makes no sense.
I think the joke may be on the audience…

Example from the text:
““She was number one with Google last year, with good reason — people are inspired by the beauty of a pregnant woman,” said Edwards.” (Edwards is the artist.)
That’s clearly a smart-ass remark. I think. Surely.

Am I the only one who spent 20 minutes searching the internet for pictures of this from…uh, other angles? Anyone? No? All right, carry on.
Heh.
Indeed, the entire thing is hilarious.
I think it’s the other end that’s supposed to look like Britney.
I’ll throw in with RickJay on this one - my wife has had one of each and said that if she were to do it again, she’d have the elective c-section in a heartbeat. Recovery for her was WAY easier and less painful after the c-section.
I think “she” (the statue) looks kind of like Ashley Judd.
