Hello all:
I was wondering if any of the Brit dopers can give any advice on this- I’ll try and keep it short.
My boyfriend is currently in the Royal Navy, and is signed up for another three years. Thing is, he really wants to leave now- he’s having a really tough time of it. This is his second ship; he left the first because he was being severely bullied. He’s starting to get bullied on this ship too. He’s supposed to go on deployment in the New Year and desperately wants to be out by then.
He saw his Duty Officer today to tell him how miserable he is and all they said they could do was move him to a ship based in this city, rather than the one he’s based in now (a good 4.5 hour train journey away). They said to go back to them if he feels any worse. I spoke to him on the phone about an hour ago and he ‘joked’ about just jumping overboard to show them he’s serious… I’m now getting worried that he will do something dumb.
Has anyone on this board left the Navy early, have first hand experience of someone who does, or who knows of any loopholes? I know its possible as he has a friend who left, but not before going AWOL for a couple of months and winding up in prison for it.
Thanks for any suggestions
