Broken Trail runs again

The movie will play Saturday night (9/23) on AMC 8pm - Midnight.

This is hardly big news to most of you, but I enjoyed this picture so much, I figure others who haven’t seen it will like it as well.

I must admit, however, that the cable rating system gave it just 2½ Stars, and that’s something of a mystery to me. But I make no pretensions of being a critic. Perhaps the cinema cognoscentis here agree that this movie’s less than good.

I think I’ll check around for web reviews.

I did. By and large the critics — and film fans (for example, at Amazon and elsewhere) liked this movie very much. See for yourself at

And if you watch it, I hope you love it.

It’s always great to have Robert Duvall in the saddle again, but the problem with that is any oater with him as a crotchety cowboy is going to invite direct comparisons with both Lonesome Dove and Open Range, and as fun as BT is, it’s nowhere in the same league as the other two. Still, he has good rapport with THC and the story’s an interesting one, even if the filmmaking itself is nothing to write home about.

We all really enjoyed it, too (my husband, daughter and I, and my mom & dad). I thought it compared favorably with both Lonesome Dove and Open Range, BTW. My father also read the book it was based on and really liked that as well.
