Oh! I miss Meijer’s Thrifty Acres. Is it still around? I used to love it. Has it gotten so bad?
And Illinois. I’m moving to Washington state next week, and mostly I’m just trying to figure out how I’ll live without Meijer.
That’s only for the rich; the poor are forced to use Unter.
Most Meijers are pretty nice. They dropped the “Thrifty Acres” part a long time ago. They’re pretty nice places to shop for nearly anything you need.
Broomstick enjoyed both my books and wrote nice reviews, so she can do no wrong in my eyes. I love you Broomstick!
Meijer is a great chain, no joke, as far as those kinds of big box department stores go. Try their chocolate cake sometime, you’ll be in heaven.
I also know that they’re expanding a lot in SE Wisconsin (I work in advertising and a competitor is one of our clients) so I’m sure that’s where she’s at.
I used to shop there fairly often in Ohio.
I miss a few things from Ohio, including Meijer and Giant Eagle. And Donatos. And Skyline. And autumn. 
Yeh, if it’s one thing I miss about Michigan, it’s Meijer’s. It was like Wal-Mart’s “Good” twin.
I think I could live happily without any Meijer’s. The ones near me are cavernously large, with scant staff to help you find things, and there’s a weird checkout setup where the credit card terminal is way downstream from the cashier so you practically have to carry on a long distance conversation with him/her if there are any glitches.
I’d rather go to Lowe’s.
Meijers sells food, clothing, home goods, etc. Lowes mainly sells hardware store stuff. Are you thinking of Menards?
Yes, I started out in the thread trying to be helpful and correct some misconceptions. Which then turned into me correcting other erroneous claims (no signs saying where the cash tolls are, you have to go across eight lanes of traffic, etc). Which slowly turned into the realization that Broomstick seems like the sort of person who just doesn’t own any personal responsibility. If she can’t handle the tollway, it’s the fault of the other drivers, of the lane set-up, of some weird “intent” of the Tollway Authority to make out-of-state drivers miserable, lying tollbooth attendants, whatever. Anything to avoid just saying “Yup, this is something I don’t enjoy because I’m not very good at it”.

I like Broomstick and her posts in general. The semi-poverty theme gets a little old but even her posts heavy on that theme can still be interesting and informative at times. That isn’t all she posts about though so I don’t see the problem. I really like her aviation posts in particular because that is a personal interest of mine as well. I noticed some people have resorted to calling her a liar or at least a deceiver and I don’t think that is true either. People have accused me and others of the same thing because that is the best thing certain people can come up with whenever they don’t like what certain people are saying. I know it isn’t true in my case and I am reasonably sure it isn’t in hers either. Other respected Dopers know her in person and like her and that is good enough for me.
Exactly. It was really heinous when she started to go all off on you. That’s when I said fuck it, this needs a Pit thread.
She may be the most perfectly pleasent person IRL, but if her posts don’t offer a clue as to what’s going on for real on the inside, then she’s just trolling. And I don’t believe she’s trolling. She’s just fucked up.
She should be renamed Broomshtick.
Are you actually suggesting that people are calling you a liar when they don’t really think you’re lying? Because that strikes me as kind of a weird thing to believe.
Broomstick’s been caught on some pretty dubious grounds with some of the stuff she claims. I don’t have time right now to search and link to examples, but there’s more than plenty :dubious: in her court.
And it’s not because “I don’t like what she’s saying,” the things she claims sometimes just don’t add up.
