Wow. Has anyone had a chance to read some of these emails? They are amazing. I used to work with a puts like that, and it drove me abso-fricken-lutly crazy. But I laughed at the secretary telling him to roll his sleeves up to look busy. The complete non-responses were depressing, and negligent, but the half-assed responses are comedy gold.
He testified to congress of his accomplished leadership skills, yet sought advice on how to dress. The emails at some points sound like a 7th grader IMing.
And he’s still getting paid by FEMA.
And Chertoff refuses to relese the emails between them.
It’s not just Brownie who sounds stupid, either - “The sooner we can get the medical patients out, the sooner we can get them out”? The whole thing would be funny if it wasn’t so sickening.
What I find hard to believe is that FEMA retained the jerk in some capacity or another for thirty days AT HIS DIRECTOR’S SALARY. When the thirty days were up, FEMA extended his contract for ANOTHER thirty days.
I don’t know what the charges would be, but I would love to see this incompetent scumbag put in jail for a long long time.
He is the king of all weasels.
I wish to apologize to weasel lovers for insulting them.
What he meant was, “The sooner we can get the medical patients out, the sooner we can get the DMAT staff out.”
Sure, it wasn’t phrased in the clearest possible way, but I’m willing to cut THE ONLY FEMA OFFICAL IN NOLA some slack – the guy was exhausted and desperate and growing increasingly appalled at the lack of organized response.
Can anybody tell me if this will be or has it been covered on the tv news? Local tv news? I think the more general public needs to know about this idjit (and ESPECIALLY about the being kept on as a consultant at full salary), and I assume that only a certain demographic reads the papers or cnn.com
I would like to see all of Brown’s defenders, and the folks who blamed the locals, to read those e-mails and tell me that isn’t the very epitome of gross incompetence. As vibrotronica said, it would be funny if it weren’t so deadly.
I dunno. I think that Bush was correct when he said that Brownie was “doin’ a heckuva job”. Perhaps he just left the appropriate adjectives out for plausible deniability. Or to avoid triggering the new FCC obscenity regulations.
That said, I’m not sure if I would pursue the sartorial comments if I were the one investigating. There are certain courtesies to observe in dressing appropriately when speaking to the public. Focusing on his shirt and necktie detract from his general incompetence, and the incompetence of those who put him in charge.
