Browser crashing when I try to make a link.

I’m using Safari on an iPad, and I was trying to put a link to another site in my reply to a thread, but every time I clicked on the little icon above the reply window my browser crashed. I finally went and looked up how to type in the code to do it, which I didn’t remember because I haven’t had to do that for a while. Has something changed in the way that little icon thing works?

Nothing has changed as far as I know. You’re not the first person to have this problem. As far as I am aware it only affects the Safari browser.

Okay, thanks. I guess I just have to do things the long way.

I see the same thing with both Safari and Chrome on IOS. Safari just crashes, Chrome freezes and has to be force stopped.

Safari on OSX chokes big time on a lot of sites since the last update - hangs, freezes, suddently reloads pages accompanied by the extremely helpful “A problem occurred with this web page so it was reloaded” message.

Ditto. I’ve noticed both these things happening in Safari when browsing with my iPhone.

Happens to me using Safari on my iPad.

My next tablet will probably be an android.

This started happening on my iPad after a recent OS upgrade.

Yep.

Me too.

I used to love my iPad, but the latest update has really been terrible.

So, I was using Chrome to avoid this problem my iPad has been having, and my tablet freezes instead of crashing.

One thing I’ve noticed about this issue.

When I select the word or phrase which I am going to make be the link, a row of 6 possible actions I can take appears (Cut, Copy, Paste, Replace…, Define, Speak). If that row consists of only 4 items (I think, anyway, less than 6) the browser invariably crashes. It hasn’t happened in a bit so I don’t remember what those items are. I’ll make sure to notice the next time it does and see if I can’t glean some information from the items on that shortened list.

Huh. That’s been happening constantly when I post through the low-rent browser internal to 1Password (because I don’t feel like copying over my bizarro long PW from that app into Safari). 1Password immediately exits, and I just assumed it was a problem of that app/company, and would get around one day to emailing them to bitch. So maybe they’re in the clear.

Only when I use the earth-chain link icon to embed the written text with the URL. I’ve been posting them as freestanding links now.

They/Safari now have an extension to call it without leaving Safari control, so by science I should:

  1. Do the copy-over and literally put it in a cold Safari session, and
  2. Use the Safari/1Password extension insert.

and see what happens.

Precisely. I left this part out of my post.

And, I didn’t mention: this is only on my iPad. I’ve never posted from my desktop (OSX).

So, to be clear, is this both Apple OS’s?

And is it a leap to suggest its hardware independent?

ETA: Did the vBulletin elves futz with that earthlink insert button, maybe?
