A man can be attractive without being handsome. Willis nearly always plays characters that have a good sense of humour, and that is attractive. He also seems fairly fit, and that helps. If he weren’t a movie star, I don’t doubt he’d find it easy to pull. Though possibly more with gay men than straight women these days…
He looks like a thumb with legs.
Looked like he was trying out for Boss! The Bruce Springsteen Musical.
Straight male here, so I can’t really speak directly to his attractiveness, but I just wanted to say that I think he was on the leading edge of making it OK to be “follicly challenged”.
By this I mean as a Hollywood star, he didn’t try to hide the loss off set, he just took what (I consider) the most reasonable course – buzz the rest of it off.
Just for this I think he’s cool.
Not even my sexual preference and I think Bruce Willis has a an appealing sexiness and charm. Yes, he’s an attractive man.
I don’t think I’ve seen a Statham movie where he’s able to be as charming as Bruce, but he’s handsome enough.
Statham started out as a model for FCUK, so being good-looking was his only job at one point. While he doesn’t have Willis’ range,he’s got stronger action chops as he’s studied martial arts and does a lot of his own stunt work. I suspect some of the appeal of both is their somewhat gravelly voices.
Statham’s default facial expression is a sneer. Willis’s is a smirk. Smirks are generally sexier than sneers.
I didn’t realize that about Statham, but it makes sense when I consider what Statham looks like ( a criminal type) to me as a straight guy and what women are supposed to go for.
I don’t mean to sound obnoxious or sexist, but the old line that men fall in love with their eyes while women fall in love with their ears has a certain amount of truth to it.
Personality means a lot and there’s no question when I was in middle school tons of girls adored him in Moonlighting.
Similarly, when the show Friends came out, the creators predicted women would fall in love with the Joey character and were stunned when Ross got such amazing feedback.
Had David Schwimmer been in a different role would so many women have lusted after him? Hell no.
Similarly, it’s no surprise that numerous women can’t get enough of George Clooney while gay men merely shrug where he’s concerned.
I’m a straight man who is fascinated by Clooney. That’s the guy I wish I was.
I don’t think that Clooney is very attractive…which actually speaks right to Ibn Warraq’s point. I don’t know or care about his personality but I never (almost never) watch his movies and don’t like the persona he has in most of his movies. Personality means almost everything. Can a man pull off his looks with confidence, whatever they be? Then he’s probably going to be hot to someone.
Actually he started out as a member of the British National Diving Squad. He was dive training when he was discovered by a sports modelling agency.
For anyone interested, no that link does not go to a photo of a 25 year old Jason Statham wet in a bathing suit.
Not cool, Morbo. Sure, you made no such promise but still . . .
Sorry sbout that. Here ya go.
I agree with everything you said here. I find that some men really do improve with age. I feel the same way about Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan–I didn’t find either man attractive in their younger days, but the years have added a certain ruggedness to them that I find very sexy.
Awww, you’re nice.
What makes you think Jason Statham is confident? I don’t know much about him personally so it’s difficult for me to assess his personality traits.
As long as the thread’s been revived.
I watched The Bank Job a few weeks back and I have to say Statham was badly miscast in the lead role.
The character he was playing was supposed to be a small time crook who agreed to pull off a big crime. The audience needed to see how he was getting desperate and struggling because he was in a situation that was way out of his league.
But it didn’t work because we’ve seen too many movies where Statham plays the guy who’s calm, cool, and in complete control. You could never really accept the idea that his character could possibly fail to rob the bank - because he’s Jason Statham.
Some women want “sweet and vulnerable”, some want androgynous, and some want extremely masculine looks. I suspect the latter-day Bruce Willis female fans fall into that category.
Willis has the requisite symmetrical features, and is undeniably masculine looking, and he tends to play extremely masculine characters as well, so it makes sense that women who go for masculine would tend to go for him as well.
Someone who thinks that Justin Bieber is hot probably won’t like Bruce Willis at all, even if they’re not 12.
Not always. He demanded that they rotoscope his hairline and bald spot in Hudson Hawk at great expense.

Michael Jordan is the celebrity that made Q-ball cool.
