Which completely misses my point: posting at all is opening oneself to attack. Even a drive-by. Especially a drive-by, as the respondants are free to criticise without contradiction.

But there is a certain type of Internet personality that likes to snipe at others’ opinions without really ever having an opinion of one’s own. They also like to participate in pileons, as Ekers has done when people on my side of the debate have been lynched in the Pit (SnakeSpirit et al.).

Sometimes they are good at it, get in their zingers, and never get called on the sum total of their posting. Ekers is pretty shitty at the strategy, does from time to time get blasted back, and now I’m calling him out for his overall narcicisstic strategy.

In general, Ekers is a mean, negative little pitbull who hits and runs in threads.

Which you have clearly proven by linking to one thread where he had a brief, but on-topic, contribution, and another thread where he posted a harmless joke.

You thought you’d get a certain response, and when it didn’t come, you starting weaseling and dodging (you “expect” you know what views are “privately” held?). Sure, we have a handful of rabid Bush- and capitalism-haters, but their views aren’t common around here, let alone a majority.

If I’m not mistaken, inductive reasoning tells me that Ekers doesn’t like Bush. If that is so, then I owe him an apology, insamuch as he can’t be a total moron.

However, the above is a pretty typical Ekers slash: He sets another poster straight with a brilliant ( :rolleyes: ) zinger and is never seen in the thread again.

Can anyone provide a contrasting example of Ekers engaging in an extended debate? The current Wilson thead exchange between him and Liberal (in which Liberal hands him his ass) is about as long a volley as I’ve seen.

If you want to split hairs, yeah, it’s a matter of degree. A skillful drive-byer, however, is pretty safe, especially if his/her zingers are good.

I could go on all day. The dude’s posting style is pretty clear. Not interactive in the least, usually dropping just a funny or a snark, and extremely vitriolic when he “knows” he’s right about a topic.

Feel free to post any examples that contradict the above characterization. The dudes got over 13,000 posts from which I could easily provide as many examples to support my claim as I’d like. Unless you’ve got the counterexamples, you’re going to drown.

There was a bit of an unholy triumvirate involving Aeschines, mswas, and drmark2000. Of the three, two were suspended (mswas’ suspension is over, but he does not seem to have returned), and I fear Aeschines is cracking under the strain of bearing the entire load on his own.

Probably. He can pretty much be guaranteed to hold whatever opinion is unpopular at the time. It’s common behaviour among those who thrive on attention no matter what the kind.

Agree with the first part, disagree with the second. Drive-bys are not, in and of themselves, a negative or a positive. Content and context matter, as always. A drive-by in a political thread that says nothing more than “Bush sucks!” is not useful, and indicative of tooldom on the part of the poster. However, drive-bys can also be witty, or to the point. A good argument is not judged merely on length. And most often, drive-bys are not intended to be serious arguments at all, but merely jokes for the amusement of anyone in the thread. Most of the quotes you’ve pulled from Bryan seem to be in the latter category.

If you’re planning on going on all day, you should probably get started soon, because so far, your examples have been uniformly poor.
