Zarek might have recovered from his bout of Occupied Nice Guy and want an issue to get behind himself.
Or, maybe he’s the fella who was too friendly with Baltar, not Gaeta, however he spells it.
What the hell happened with Gaeta? He frakking stabs Baltar and now he’s out drinking with the guys?
Who writes this show? Did they fire every writer who wasn’t afflicted with terminal ADD?
This doctor has apparently been Tigh’s friend for quite some time. He was a key part of the insurgency. He fixed Tigh’s eye. And we’ve never seen him before?
How about some basic character building, then? How about having Anders stop by and say hi? Logically, he should be good friends with the doc, too. Or Tyrol? Or maybe, just maybe, one of those guys could say, “Hey, Helo, I knew the doc on New Caprica and, you know, he really does hate Saggitarons. A lot.”
Then maybe Helo would have a reason other than the totally illogical “listen to the people who hate all doctors,” crap.
How did Dualla get sick, anyway? Is she hanging out down at the refugee camp? Nope, she just happens to be Saggitaron, so she just happens to get sick.
Wouldn’t a doctor who lost 90% of his patients of a certain ethnicity attract some suspicion? Particularly if he wasn’t exactly quiet about his dislike for that ethnicity?
Why not take the opportunity to use Zarek, who is a Saggitaron, in this episode in some context that had something to do with them?
I have almost totally lost interest in this show. It is pretty close to irredeemable now, and I won’t be sad if it doesn’t get picked up for another season.
On the contrary, I thought this was one of the pieces of “evidence” Helo used that made no sense. This certain ethnicity is well known (in this episode at least) to reject certain forms of life-saving medical care. Therefore it makes perfect sense that they have a much higher mortality rate. And it makes sense for a doctor to be very angry at such people for dooming themselves, and presumably their children, unnecessarily.
(OK, I can see that maybe the records show Sagittarons who went to the doctor in the first place, and we’re supposed to infer from that that they would have accepted exactly the same medical treatment as other ethnicities, and should have similar mortality rates, but that’s an awful stretch, IMHO.)
Well, he’s been working rather closer with Laura lately… so I’m going with ‘whacky weed.’
It would have been more believable if Gaeta had stabbed Baltar and now he’s out being bought drinks by the guys. Whom did you think was upset that Gaeta had tried to kill Baltar? because it didn’t even bother Laura and Bill (and Saul looked positively gleeful when it happened).
Dualla was hanging out down at the refugee center – that was established early on when she was there with Helo receiving the refugees, and telling them that she was Sagittaron, too. In the following scenes, she’s frequently in the background when Helo is down at the refugee center.
I thought it was the Gemonese who didn’t allow abortions (and considered children to be the “property” of their parents). The Gemonese have been painted as fundalmentalists.
Oh frack, you’re right. I double checked the Zarek/Sagittaron info I posted, and it’s correct however. Sorry.
I guess I’m coming from the angle that, since they were trying to get information out of Baltar, they might have been a little cheesed off that Gaeta stuck a pen in his neck.
I’m not saying it would make him unpopular in the fleet, but rather that, unless they have very little concern for the rule of law (which I will concede seems to be the case), he would at the very least be guilty of assault or attempted murder. How the hell do they know Gaeta wasn’t trying to kill Baltar to keep him from outting Gaeta as a cylon?
A stretch? Dualla seems indicative of a large subset of Sagittarons who don’t reject medical care, and the ones who went to see Dr. Death are presumably within that group.
The idea that these guys are close enough to us to use the Hippocratic Oath but so far removed as to be utterly blind to pattern killing by a doctor is more of a stretch for me.
Hold onto your hat! I’m going to say that your analogy is crap.
Why? Because there are people in the world, probably quite a few in the Arab world, who agree with or sympathize with Bin Laden, who might see justification and righteousness in what he does. There really aren’t too many people in this universe who have anything but contempt at best and murderous hate at worst for Gaius Baltar. He has been depicted as utterly without support in all sectors of the human community. It’s hard to press for due process when no element of society wants to give it to him or thinks he deserves it.
Yes, Caprica Six has a Baltar inside her head like Baltar has her inside his. May mean something, maybe not.
Another time-filling, plot-not-advancing ep, but better than pretending, anyway. Bring on Baltar’s trial!
Could be only 6 new eps left, ya know, and gotta save one of *those * for “Hey, that last jump took us to Earth! Goodbye, kids!”
Adama, Roslyn, and Tigh well knew that sending in Gaeta was problematic, and when they were watching the ‘interrogation’ go to hell, they knew the moment that Gaeta was going to lose it (“We have to get in there”). They seem to completely understand what Felix was thinking and feeling – witness how Laura admonishes the guard to be careful with the KO’d Gaeta.
If they thought Felix was a Cylon, they wouldn’t think that they understood his motives. It’s telling that none of them – not even Tigh – voiced any suspicions about Felix being a Cylon. And Tigh would certainly have voiced them, were there any. They though he reacted like a human would, in a position they shouldn’t have put him into ('cept out of their own desparation).
We’re obviously to infer that any repercussions from his freaking out on Baltar were, at best, minor.
That sneering cynicism would come off better were it a bit more accurate:
BSG Season 4 News
Helo is about the only character on the show who is consistant and believable from week to week and season to season. I’m glad they gave him his own ep. Unfortunately, all the other actors took the week off and didn’t put any more effort into it than a dress rehearsal. If that. Most of them might as well have been holding the script in their hands.
Doc Cottle needs to go back to having one good line per ep. That’s all he can handle.
What, magic baby blood can cure cancer instantly but now the brat’s going to be getting the sniffles every other ep?
Ooh, Zarek’s scared. Roz’s never seen him like that before. Must be serious. Glad you told us Roz.
A stupid trial is going to tear the fleet apart? After everything the fleet has experienced which didn’t tear the fleet apart?
I’m only saying they’re comparable in the context of how-much-they’re-hated-in-a-particular-place.
Bin Laden, as viewed in the US in late 2001 <-> Baltar, as viewed in the BSG fleet now
How do you know that? Before the occupation there was a group who wanted to negotiate peace with the Cylons. After the occupation, Baltar did what he had to do and capitulated. Not like he had a choice. There were people willing to join the New Caprican police. According to this ep, Sagitarons didn’t lift a finger during the occupation, and are viewed as traitorous.
Roslyn is insane. She wanted every single human to take up arms against the Cylons and fight to their last breath, thereby dooming humanity.
Baltar is in some ways a hero and it’s perfectly reasonable to assume there are those who agree. It’s certainly no stretch to believe many would expect and demand a fair trial.
Yeah, a pretty mediocre ep. If the writers hadn’t been so heavy handed in having everyone sing the praises of Roberts, maybe I would have thought for 1 second that he wasn’t really Dr. Evil.
Man, does Sharon look hot when he’s all uniformed up with a sidearm. Is she getting hotter or am I just noticing her more?
that girl is Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine.
Give me an example of anyone, post New Caprica, who has shown any support for or sympathy towards Baltar. I’m not going to fanwank that there should be people who do. I haven’t seen anything but animosity towards him. I’d be happy to concede that I was wrong if you can give me an example from the show.
Well, his Mother isn’t on board, I believe he sold her cigarettes.
Exactly.
I think people who collaborated with Baltar’s Vichy government would be doubly eager to get rid of him and NOT hear what he might have to say at a trial in an open court. Gaeta is the perfect example of this. Fingers will be pointed, people who are trying to move on with their lives will be implicated.
I thought GAeta was exonerated from colaborating what with the dog dish and all.
