Buffy 11/19/02 - Sleeper (spoilers in box)

Anybody want to start a petition - Save our Clem? And see to it that wicked beings over at the Warehouse of Mutant Enemy bring him back? Why don’t they have their own homepage, BTW?

As already noted, Ben was complicit toward the end. He also summoned the Queller demon to “clean up Glory’s mess” by killing all the people whose minds she absorbed, almost getting Joyce killed in the process.

On another note…who thinks that the choice Buffy’s going to have to make (as alluded to by TMO Joyce) is going to be between Dawn and Giles? Also, do we think there’s any significance to “from beneath you it devours” and William/Spike’s bbeing told by Cecily and Buffy that he’s beneath them? Or is this grasping?

I think Buffy is going to choose who she has to let die…

I like the idea of the choice between Dawn and Giles much much better than (as some think onother boards) the choice between Dawn and Spike. I just can’t see any scenerio where Buffy would choose Spike over Dawn, but I can imagine that the choice between Giles and Dawn would be much harder. Also, I suspect that if that happens, it would be because Dawn really is in the wrong about something.

Not only did Cecily and Buffy tell Spike he’s beneath them, but in CwDP Buffy said she was “beneath” her friends.

I’ve actually been kicking this around mentally since “Beneath You” aired. Even when Buffy was shagging Spike, even after he put his unlife on the line to save Dawn in S-5, got tortured by a Hellgod, knocked off the tower by the bookish demon, all that, she still regarded him with contempt- he was beneath her.

My theory is that it isn’t just Spike TETD is working though. It’s whoever Buffy and the Scoobies might despise, but regard as weak and essentially harmless, like, oh, say, a chipped Spike or maybe Andrew without the rest of Troika (and particularly Warren) to give him direction. Hell, I can even see Xander as a potential TETD instrument. I mean, yeah, he’s solidly in the good-guy camp, but he is morally weak.

BTW, I think Spike is pretty well through his crisis. He’s not out of the woods yet, but the meadow beyond is visible through the thinning trees. I don’t think he’ll be snacking on people after next week’s episode.

Look for Andrew to adopt an interesting new role model in the next couple of episodes, replete with choice of leather outerwear

No, you don’t get it. She has to choose who to let die, who to sacrifice… and she won’t choose Dawn-- which would be the exact wording of what Joyce said.

(And if you follow Angel, you know that exact words from supernatural beings matter a lot. Eg. The son will devour the father-- and Angel did drink his son’s blood.

I think Ben’s summoning of the Queller wasn’t evil. The people Glory eats are better off dead. They can’t be recovered without serious mojo and eventually they serve Glory to help her open the walls between worlds. So while a few non-Glory lunatics may die I think the good the Queller does outweighs the harm.

I never really saw Ben as being complicit with Glory. I always kinda felt sorry for the guy, having to share his mortal coil with his immortal bitch of a sister. The scene of Giles killing him was just so, I don’t know, but for Giles to kill a human in cold blood (yeah, I know about his Ripper past, but still), even if the guy was the conduit by which Glory entered the Buffyverse, it kinda hurt. But, you could tell it hurt Giles to do it. I think that was the one moment in the series when Giles showed the greatest strength- to do something that horrified him, because if he didn’t, the world would be kaput.

Oh, and pepperlandgirl

After seeing “Sleeper” and reading the spoilers for “Never Leave Me”, I think there is going to be a very good plot-related reason for Spike to be missing from episodes 10-12. I have a feeling he will leave Sunnydale for a while in order to get TETD out of his head once and for all, piece his mind back together, integrate his soul with the rest of his personality, sit in a lotus position and say “om” a lot, etc. Then come back to Sunnydale able to see TETD’s illusions for what they are, even if the others can’t. I’ll miss him, too, but I think the entrance he makes when he returns will be worth it.

Thea

Spike is definitely leaving the SG, but sources indicate that the audience will know where he is and what’s going on. I think it might be like what happened in Two to Go and Grave.

Also, did you know Drusilla is returning for either 10 or 11? (I’m thinking 11)

Random thought…

We saw TETD from the first episode…
Think about this. Think hard. They’re even calling him the Big Bad.
You know how it goes on Buffy. Bad thing. Bad thing. Ooops. That was the Little Bad.
Mebbe we got something worse to think about.

pepperlandgirl link me, dammit, I want spoilers!!!

BTW, I can’t seem to get around in Cross and Stake- and I can’t find firsthand Oracle, all I can get is stuff citing Oracle as the source, but not actual Oracle
