Buffy Season 7: Dawn of a new Era?

Hrmm, it seems pretty sure that SMG is gone, but UPN just paid big bucks for the series so they may want to keep it running somehow. I really don’t see Dawn as capable of carrying the old viewer base, unless big changes happen this season. She’s about the same age as Buffy was at the begining of the show, but she has lots of baggage.

Other thoughts:

  • Glory?! Please, leave that plot line where it belongs, dead and smothered.

  • Tara, it would be interesting to see her again, but only in flashbacks. Bringing her back would cheapen her death.

  • Faith, she could carry a new series. It might be similar to Angel, ie, seeking redemption for past wrongs, but still good.

  • Lighter tone would be nice. This past season was loaded with too much angst.

  • No mention of Spike, who could also carry a show. As long as it isn’t a clone of Angel.

I really really hope that if SMG decides not to come back that the series ends. I just don’t buy Dawn the Vampire Slayer and I don’t care how non-whiny Joss makes her, I still ain’t buying it. Better that the show go out big (and not by killing Buffy again, that’s been SO done) and just end as the minor classis it’s destined to become.

I always liked Glory and would not mind seeing her return as long as it meant the return of Ben too. Maybe they could somehow have been separated by Ben’s death which frees Ben to live the life he would have had without Glory? Hey, I’m not a writer, give me a break. It would be interesting to see him try to redeem himself in Dawn’s eyes especially, and perhaps he could fill some of the magick void left by Tara’s death and Willow’s foreswearing.

Totally agree that tara should appear only in flashback/spirit form and not be brought back to life. Ditto with Warren. Maybe they’ll haunt Willow for a while?

I’d like to see Faith as a guest star but I’m not sure she could carry a series. She’d work better as a supporting character on Angel, maybe after a few guest shots on Buffy.

There are a lot of characters still needing to make up for past sins, including Spike. I wonder how that’s going to play with the “lighter tone”?

"Whedon tells USA Today that he’s hoping to make Trachtenberg’s character less whiny. "

Well, thank God! But, I gotta admit that Dawn wasn’t that bad upon rewatching S. 5 and 6 as she was during the original viewing. I’ll watch DtVS for a while… as long as the quality is up to snuff, I’ll probably keep watching.

Glory was my favorite Big Bad! Don’t you diss Glory, Telemark!

Loved the angst of S. 6. Loved it, loved it, loved it. But that’s just me. (and my wife).

I don’t watch Angel… couldn’t stand him, never will. Every time I see Borenz’s blandly handsome face on my screen I just want to scream: STOP BROODING AND LIGHTEN UP A LITTLE, PRETTY-BOY!!

I wouldn’t mind seeing Kendra again. Rrrrrowrrrrr. Faith, otoh… she and Angel oughtta shack up and have a whine fest. “Oh, I’ve been so misunderstood by the Council and my watchers” “Oh, I’m so dark and broody” “Oh, my upbringing was hard which is why I went evil” “Oh, I’ve got my soul back so it’s time to mope”

…ummm… Yeah… I have no problem with Dawn as a character. And it’s obvious that if she was made the slayer the show would be even more ensemble driven than it is now. It just seems wrong. Atleast the network is being honest and saying it would be for the money. Too bad whiny Whedon has to try to put a spin on it (“I have more high school pathos to get out”) Right Joss. How’s Firefly coming?

anyway, one thing confuses me… If season 7 starts with the opening of the new Sunnydale High…Where has Dawn been going to school for the last two years and why has it taken three years to build a new school? Sorry but it just don’t make a lick of sense.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer without Buffy? Why, that’d be like having Laverne and Shirley without Shirley around. Or Chico and the Man without Chico.

Or All in the Family without Edith.

From what I’ve been reading over at Ain’t it Cool News, one major villain from every season in the shows run is making an appearance: The Master, Drucilla, Faith, Adam, Glory, and Warren will all be appearing. I’m guessing in the same episode. Faith is also going to show up over on Angel. Also, Amber Benson will be coming back, but not as Tara. She might also be directing a few episodes. I doubt we’ll get Dawn the Vampire Slayer, as that just sounds, well, stupid. But I’d be willing to give the show a shot sans Buffy. I just hope they don’t kill her again. I also hope they don’t change the name. I’m gently amused by the idea of watching a show called Buffy the Vampire Slayer that doesn’t feature a character named Buffy who kills vampires. Kinda Samuel Becketish.

Now, this i like. I could get behind this.

I’m willing to TIJ…Trust in Joss, He’ll Provide.

Whatever he wants to do. When he screws up, then I’ll start having opinions. (One exception: MUST HAVE MORE SPUFFY)

I’ve always thought Dawn’s character could carry a show. Especially one more focused on weirdness than on action. I mean a cosmic force turned into a normal human has a good deal of story potential as well as a fair deal of built in oddity.

A show based around Dawn? Shudder. . . what ring of hell would that be?

Last season was too uneven- great shows surrounded by bad shows, along with a few stinker story lines. Joss and the writers got a little to full of themselves.

The loss of Giles (as noted in the interviews) hurt alot more then expected. Looks like this Season is a “greatest hits” sort of season. Should be fun, as long as its not too Spike (sorry Stoid) or Dawn-centric.
