Buncha slackers in the MMP! {OLD}

vbc total cracked me up. i can just picture it.

koritza enjoys doing the tag thing from under the bed or couch.

Heaved, came home, breakfasted. Preseson hockey tonight. :ice_hockey:

Yeah, I accidentally stepped on Spot’s foot as I was leaving for work, so he stabbed me in the thumb when I got home.

Per Wikipedia: in the United States as of 2017, there were more than 1,300 NDBs, of which fewer than 300 were owned by the Federal Government. The FAA had begun decommissioning stand-alone NDBs.[10] As of April 2018, the FAA had disabled 23 ground-based navaids including NDBs, and plans to shut down more than 300 by 2025. The FAA has no sustaining or acquisition system for NDBs and plans to phase out the existing NDBs through attrition, citing decreased pilot reliance on NDBs as more pilots use VOR and GPS navigation.[11]

Continuing the aviation hijack. In the 1950s the NDB as an enroute nav system was being rapidly supplanted by the VOR network. At the same time ILS for low weather landings was also proliferating. As built back then many (most?) ILS systems had a low-powered NDB at the final approach fix / outer marker. Called an “outer compass locator” which was 2-1/2 misnomers rolled into one screwed up 3-part name. Anyhow, they represented the vast bulk of operating NDBs in the USA by even the mid 1960s, much less the 1980s when I started flying professionally.

Around the turn of the century FAA decided to stop maintaining them and when one failed, it was simply removed from the roster, struck from the various procedure charts, and the hardware was thrown away. Not too many left now.

Beach was good. Had a light snack at home and am about to launch off on some erranding while Her Ladyship attends some medical event of hers. Nice dinner out tonight shall be fun. Looks to be clouding up and our usual spotty afternoon rain is starting somewhere although not right here right now.

Sneaking in to say that recipe sounds fabulous, Cookie!

Hours cut back at work, ramping up the job hunt. Boss is suddenly being nicer**. Either she ran the numbers for summer and is satisfied, or she is afraid she is about to lose me.

**Mind you, not exactly nice, but quite a bit less likely to yell.

Nah. I seldom have anything to say of any consequence at that time of night.

Yup. It’s actually a quote from the bible. I am not a religious person any more, but there are a lot of things in that book worth keeping.

Our nearest Costco is 30+ miles away, but it’s still worth it to us just for the good toilet paper.
Actually, we go about every 2 - 3 months to see some doc or other and visit Trader Joes and other stores and go to some good restaurants.

We do buy foodstuffs in mega sizes and have freezer in the garage just for that purpose. That way we can shop the sales and save some money over time.

I feel like the only reason the Great Bird of the Galaxy invented avocados was for guacamole. Wifey disagrees, but she’s a person of low taste, as evidenced by the person she’s married to.

Preach it sistah! When I was a kid I wanted to be an archeologist, then later a pilot. When I went into the navy with crappy eyesight I told them I wanted to be an electronics tech, so they made me fix radars. When I got out an odd series of events in college led me to becoming a computer operator and later a programmer. If I had it to do over I’d have just become an electrician like 2 of my uncles. They made good money and always had work. And nobody called them in the middle of the night 'cause the computer went down.

Heh. Hot dogs and the occasional sausage dog is the onlything I put mustard on,and never that ‘Dijon’ stuff they sell in Merikan stores. Having had some actual french Dijon at one time spoiled me, it did. I never put catsup on dogs, or burgers, only fries. That’s okay, we can still be friends.

We haven’t gotten our Covid boosters yet. Soon though. My MyChart system thinks I need a bunch of shots, some of which I’ve already had and some not, but is constantly nagging me about.

Well, I’ve spent 2+ hours getting caught up with you folks, and soon will need to leave to visit with my new (to me) cardiologist. At least it’s a five minute drive instead of an hour.

Happy Toosday!

The morning commute was only two hours and forty-five minutes this morning.

Our accountant has chickens, but he’s not fond of eggs. He brought some in last week. He brought me a dozen teeny-tiny eggs this morning. They’re unwashed, so they can sit out.

My former boss came in to see about having our Collections department handle a case for her. Also, to say hello to everyone. Also, to give away a surplus of homegrown tomatoes. I took at least a pound. The thing is… I just bought some Roma tomatoes on Sunday! I’m thinking I’ll use those to make Pico de Gallo, and we can have the homegrowns on sangers.

It’s 13 o’clock. Two more hours before my three-hour commute home.

This is the MMP, we rarely discuss anything of consequence at any time!

:people_hugging:

Water and OTC pain meds often help.

VBC is too pudgy to get up there and GG knows he’s not supposed to be up there so he doesn’t push things off. If he does, we hear it and scold him for being up there, so we have taught him to be sneaky about it.

That is SO cute!

George was very clear “MOM! She’s TOUCHING me!”

Fingers crossed that you find something perfect very soon.

So, despite all of the discussion and plans, I got all three shots today. Like Pilot, when I was scheduling my appointment, the comp wanted me to schedule flu with covid. The young lady who was checking me in wanted to confirm that I wanted covid and flu so I made her go back and change it. The shot giver came in with both shots and I figured it was a sign or something and told him to please add RSV, which he did and not that’s done.

I’m starting to get headachy and I’m feeling pretty warm so I’m going to follow my own advice and take some Tylenol with a big glass of ice water.

Howdy Y’all! As stated earlier we were bears who N.O.L. at the hog trough Golden Corral. Needless to say we were both full, but did not over stuff ourselves, so we’re not in misery. Nappage followed and then we day drank out on the back porch while watchin’ the rain. Now 'tis time for some Netflix and chills.

Nellie hope you’re feelin’ better.

JtC sounds like a good plan. Hope the ick from the shots isn’t too bad.

Afternoon all. Sweated some weight off on the stationary cycles and finished one re-read, the second I’ll finish off tomorrow during swimming and sauna time. Picked up bread and milk and the NY Times and also filled the gas tank at Kroger (.20 cents a gallon off). And managed to walk by the Cheese Ball containers twice without picking one up…marvelous self-discipline there (I’ll still probably get one in a week or so). Have to get ready for soccer with the littles in about an hour, already 89F so not much running today, by either them or me.

rocky, nice little lyrics. Thank you.

JtC, just take it easy while your body adjusts to the vaccines.

OK, need to check the mail and then be thinking about what drills to run at soccer today. Take care all.

I told a former cow-orker that my former boss was here. She said, ‘No shit!’ I told her ‘Feces not present.’ She laughed.

When my doc used MyChart that was a PITA. I just kept forwarding the messages about vaxes I’d already had to the doc’s staff. Over and over and over. Eventually they updated the computer so I’d quit spamming them so it’d quit spamming me.

Good luck w cardiologist. Take their advice to heart. (Heh heh. I’ll be here all week. Try the veal.)

Flyboy Sorry about the commute, but the eggs & tomatoes will go some way to ease the pain.

Our main retirement gift is a large art print of whichever jet you flew with your name, dates, etc., overprinted. And a generous white border around. These are mounted on foamboard then left on display in the office for a few weeks so your co-workers can write congrats or whatever in the ample margins. Kinda like the inscriptions kids put in HS & college yearbooks. But modulo pilots’ cold and distant personalities, so fairly few i’s dotted with hearts.

Back when every pilot visited the office on every trip the retiree prints got a lot more attention. Now folks can go months without stopping by, and the flux of retirees is thick and seemingly never-ending, so some folks don’t get too many comments and sigs. Sad. Anyhow, my print arrived in the FedEx a couple of days ago with a gratifying amount of pilotish customization from both new young guys and folks I’ve known for 30 years across two companies.

Today’s main errand was to take it to be framed in a way that would protect it, but also not cover the comments written very close to the margins. Of course it’s an utterly non-standard size, so no off-the shelf frame+glass set will work. Oh well. I’m not sure that having it heavily gold-plated would have been much more expensive than custom framing it. Sheesh! Talk about insane prices for a fairly basic service. Anyhow, in 2 weeks it’ll be beautiful. I hope.

Mini-groc and a calorically excessive 5 Guys bacon double cheese burger on lettuce wrap w (small) cajun seasoned fries was had. Plus peanuts first of course. Avoiding overeating at snazzy dinner too will be work.

Got laundry done & stowed, yakked with some other recent retirees about company retirement administrivia, and generally slothed out. In 30-ish minutes we’ll start snazzing up for dinner. It seems the rain is not going to bother us, but there are never guarantees on a day like this.

Happy Tuesday evening to all!!

Good luck with the cardiologist.

I reluctantly went to a new lab this afternoon. They actually had my faxed order, saw me on time, and did a very comfortable draw, so score!

I ordered some jammies and a couple of fleece cardigans on line. The charge posted. I got notification that my order has shipped and I’ll get it on Saturday. Very routine.

But I also got notification of the entire amount of the order being credited to my VISA. There wasn’t a double charge. I’m confused. I’ll be watching my credit card status on line to see what the heck happens.

Too weird.

I got lazy and had a micorwave meal for supper. It was awful - supposedly chicken and broccoli in a basil-cheese sauce. Very awful. So I won’t be taking that kind of short cut again.

OK, back to my recliner.

Feel better soonest nellie and JtC!

Mine was the last class that my HS guidance counselor had before retirement (at our school, you were issued a counselor as a sophomore and had the same one throughout). By that time, he was just calling it in. He didn’t do much except keep a rack with college applications and military recruitment.brochures. If you needed help trying to get financial aid, you were better off with your parents’ or older siblings’ experiences, if you were lucky enough not to be the first one in the family to go to college. I didn’t get any of this info until I came back to Indiana two years after HS graduation and the priest brother of a friend shepherded me through the process. Gee, thanks, Mr. Bunnell.

I’m beginning to wonder if my boss is lazy, stupid, just trying to frick with me or a combination. I knew something was up when she came back to my area (she usually doesn’t bother). She proceeded to give me hell about not doing something correctly that I’ve been doing for a year. Come to find out, there has been a recent update to process that the lead in charge of sending updates out neglected. Now, I have to go through the irk that I did this afternoon to check all of the cartons for proper closure. :headsmack:

Nelson just horked. Now I’m a little worried about him. I can count on one hand the times he’s done that in the last 6 years. Poor baby. I have a little leftover rice that I’ll put in his dish with a little chicken ( got some cooked chicken out of the freezer) tomorrow and see if that settles his tummy.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Soccer has been coached, had a lot of fun with the littles today, think they had fun too. Mac-n-Cheese is assimilating in my belly and the temperature is back under 75F, so all is right with the world.

Pilot, wonder if we can see the print once it is framed and hung. I got a US Flag, folded and framed for my retirement, that was flown over the US Capital (or so it says) along with a few framed documents, which is all posted on my ‘brag wall’ above the fireplace.

red, hope boss and Nelson both do better in the future…

OK, finish the evening internettin’ and start reading all the news that’s fit to print before bedtime. Take care all.

So, the Canes are winning convincingly in a meaningless first preseason game, and the Facebook Group has already decided that the season is lost. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
But the win and the Manhattan were both good.

Both. With management it’s always a combination of incompetence and evil(except for me, I avoided the evil bit).
{{{{Nelson}}}}

“tip the veal, and try the waitress”
and I’d love to se the print when you get it framed.

Hello. I’m alive, if not well. I was doing better earlier today, but this evening the fever and chills hit again. Enough is enough. As Pilot says, I’m very glad I got the vaccine because the alternative is so much worse. Thanks once again, science!

red, I hope Nelson feels better soonest. We’re all fond of him around here. And a pox upon your boss.

/Charlie Brown/ I got a rock. /Charlie Brown/ Actually, it was a cheap faux rosewood clock with my name and years of service engraved on faux bronze.

Meant to write more, but my stomach is…bye.

No such thing as a hijack around here. We are the epitome of “mundane and pointless”, with everyone essentially doing brain dumps into their keyboards.

Exactly!

As for my inconsequentials, BossLady (who is actually young enough to be my child) and I went to nearby Costco at lunch, since she needed to pick up something and we did food court lunch (both of us went with the chicken bake). I returned to said Costco after irk, happily ingested some strawberry soft-serve (food court again), then shopped. Got a few impulse items (such as the pizza chips and the King’s Hawaiian rolls), some household needs (flushable wipes, kleenex, lint rollers), and the few items I’d really planned on (rotisserie chicken, scalloped potatoes, chicken poblano enchiladas that had been one of the offered samples at lunch). Escaped for about $102, which isn’t bad for me.

Happy Toosday!

I am nowhere near caught up; I will try again tomorrow.

It was a wet and drizzly morning at the park. It’s still good for the GR to run. Rude man was there, and he bitched about Echo being trouble. She wasn’t doing anything, but then, he always has something to bitch about. I know he wasn’t happy that the GR would run behind his dog as she was chasing the ball. He gets mad if he throws the ball and another dog gets it.
Well… That is how it is at the dog park.
Dogs steal each other’s balls, and dogs chase after each other. Dogs have no respect for what the humans want, and as long as they aren’t drawing blood, let them be.
However, you do get the people who want to train their dogs at the dog park, and good luck with that.
There was one guy who used to tell us to keep our dogs away from his because she was aggressive, then he’d sit in the pavilion with us. If you are sitting next to me at the picnic table, you can’t tell me to keep my dogs away. Well, you can tell me, but I’m going to think you are a fucking idiot, even if I am polite enough to keep it to myself.

My son is going to get off around midnight tonight. I hope there are no issues with the cab this time.
He also got Thorsday off, I I hope we can get a lot done over the five days he will have off.

My living room furniture should be there this weekend, so I will have some place to sleep before my bed gets there. My son can sleep on his mattress on the floor or sleep on the air mattress. Once we get everything out of here that we can take, I’ll get a moving company to do the rest. There won’t be much for them to move, I hope the job won’t be too small for anyone to do it. If the seller’s friend flakes out on me again this weekend, then I’ll call the guy across the street with the van that says he does just about everything. Then I’ll see if he can fix the stuff in this house that needs fixing. Nice commute for him to the job, just walk across the street. The seller’s friend said he is interested in buying this house, although he hasn’t seen it yet. He might be willing to buy it as it is for a reduction in price, since he knows how to do all the irk anyway. Then he can do the repairs his way. I’m not counting on it though.

The cable company is coming out Friday. Whoever told me I couldn’t have accounts at two addresses lied, or is incompetent.

I have a doctor’s appointment Friday because…
My appointment yesterday was at 1030 and I showed up at 1030, and that made me late. I said what do you mean I’m late; I was here at 1030. It seems that at this doctor’s office, if your appointment is at 1030, you are supposed to show up at 10, or you are late.
They send me email reminders, they send me text reminders, they call me to remind me, and they tell me to bring a mask, and my ID, and my insurance card, but not once have they ever said you need to be there a half hour before your appointment. I know doctors that want you there 15 minutes ahead of your appoinment, but not once has any of them told me I was late if I got there at my appointment time.
In all honesty, I am usually not rude enough to show up exactly on time, I usually get there 10-15 minutes early anyway. But a half hour? Why not just make the appointment for the half hour ahead of time then? Especially if you are going to be assholes about it.
Good thing I like the doctor.

Creatures are everywhere since all of the rain. A praying mantis was living on my deck for two days. Yesterday as I was walking up the steps to the deck, I caught something out of the corner of my eye. A BIG black spider was racing up the web for my hand. That creeped me out.

Rayleigh is so much like Ripple. I try not to compare them, I don’t want a Ripple substitute and I want Rayleigh to be his own dog, but they are so much alike in both looks and mannerisms. He has found his voice though and we need to irk on it. When we stop at a light, he barks at the people on the sidewalk.
I hate to say it, but Misiu is about the dumbest or laziest dog I have ever had. I don’t want to pick on him, because he is very very sweet, but he just doesn’t pick up on things. I think he is going to be a big, clumsy goofball. Loveable, but not too bright.

Adam pissed me off tonight. He came in when I got home from dropping my son off at irk. He ate his food and ran for the front door. I put the GR outback and let Adam out the front door. No muss, no fuss, no hissing and spitting. It wasn’t 20 minutes later, the dogs asked to go out, and there was Adam, on the gate, wanting to get past the dogs and come in.
HE JUST WENT OUT!
I held the door open, and he wouldn’t come in and the GR wouldn’t come in, I closed the door and turned out the light.
I’m getting tired of his games. He will purposely get the dogs’ attention, then whine when they crowd him. This in the back door, out the front door, just to walk out back and want in the back door again bullshit is really irritating me. I was nice enough to let him out the front door and this is the shit he pulls?
I wondered why the GR wanted out so soon after I had just let them in. They probably heard him out back. They are so fascinated by the cat, and want to play with him. He wants their attention until he gets it, then he wants to scream bloody murder. He acts like he is afraid of them, but then he taunts them all the time.
They’re worse than kids.
