Buncha slackers in the MMP! {OLD}

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

Good thing they’re so cute.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 15c/59f with a predicted high of 19c/66f, and with isolated showers. Weather app doesn’t like and has declared that “It’s rainy. Who fucking ordered this shit? Rain is fucking bollocks”. It’s actually dry outside at the moment although the sky’s quite grey. We have a weather warning for Storm Agnes, likely to bring “strong and destructive” winds, and that warning is in place until midday tomorrow so we’ll see what kind of weather that gives us.

Today is the start of our next round of strikes, so another three days of not working. I’ve sent in my claim for strike pay for the three days we’ve already done so that should be in my bank account next week. Apparently our local strike fund is very healthy and we get some funding from the central Union funds as well, so nobody’s losing out on pay.

What to do with myself? Oh, I have no idea…might go to the gym! There’s laundry to do, ironing to do, and it won’t hurt to run the rollsuck either. I need to go into town and get some more birthday cards as I’ve run out of them at home, and also get some stamps. I need to get one card up to Scotland by Saturday so that means it needs to be in the post tomorrow, which means I can do the trip to town tomorrow morning.

I would normally be going to the pub with friends tonight but they’ve both had a sickness bug which they’re getting over, but don’t want to pass on. They think it’s possibly food poisoning given the fact they both got it at the same time, but they are being cautious. Also, Liz has had some bad news about her mother (who lives in Cyprus), her mum was taken to hospital with very low blood pressure and is now in ICU with a failing kidney.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 67 (BRR!) Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of ONLY 77 and cloudy for the day. I may need my longjohns! The big item on today’s agenda is to procure provisions. Other than that it will be sloth, general overall uselessness, nappage, day drinkin’ and assorted other retired drain on society items. Sup shall be leftovers from Moanday.

Nellie hope you feel better today.

sari the folks at your doc’s office are poopyheads for doin’ that. Hope you get a lot of movin’ stuff done this week. Also hope the sell of the old digs is quick and easy. Well, as easy at that gets, which still ain’t exactly easy.

When I retired, I sorta just snuck out, as in used up two weeks of vacation and then that was it. I did not want any hoopla or fanfare. Irk was irk. It was not my life.

red your boss is a poopyhead as well. Hope Nelson is feelin’ better today, poor baby.

Pilot the gift sounds cool. I, too, would like to see a picture of it.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I suppose I must purtify and don attire appropriate for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Life is so difficult sometimes!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Regarding retirement photos: first, some background.

In my last gummint job (the first retirement) my last boss had to travel a fair bit for (shudder) meetings. So we were frequently left without adult supervision. One of those times, I convinced everyone else that Al needed a “chalk outline” in the doorway to his office. Lisa obliged by lying half in/half out of his office and the rest of us used masking tape to make her outline. We even got the command photographer to take a picture of it. (it was a classified facility, so we couldn’t have phones or cameras past the reception desk.)

Now, the usual retirement photo was the F/A-18 in front of the building (a much-mocked display that a former CO boondoggled to his everlasting glory.) I didn’t want that. I told someone that I’d rather have the photo of the chalk outline, and that’s what I got!. There aren’t many signatures because I retired during a RIF and most people were worried about their own jobs and not interested in who else was jumping ship. I don’t care - I love the photo, tho for the life of me, I don’t know where it is at the moment. It got put somewhere when we had the house painted. I must look for it.

BTW, MetalMouse - I was once told about the flags flown over the capitol building. Apparently they’ll take a bunch of flags there, raise them then lower them and they’ve officially been “flown.” It makes sense, since they give away more than 365 of those flags every year. I hope this didn’t burst a bubble for you.

The soggies continued all night - FCD got back from the school board meeting just before 9. I went to bed about an hour later and slept thru till nearly 6. It’ll be another indoor day with Tobias. MIL called last night and asked me to take her grocery shopping (since BIL remains hospitalized) so we’ll go on Firday.

Maybe I’ll take Tobias to the library for a while today. Wonder if they still do Wiggle Giggle like I took Roxy to?? Must research. Found it - Tues and Thurs at 11. Good to know.

Happy Wednesday!

Sari glad to hear things are moving forward, albeit in fits and starts with interrupted sleeps in the middle.

Sounds like otherwise folks had a decent evening & overnight.

Our evening went quickly sideways but ended well. We got sorta-glossied up and walked to the nearby restaurant we’d planned. A small place with a WAG 10-seat big bar and maybe 12 4-tops. Handmade sign on the front door says “Closed for renovations”. No mention of what date they closed or when they expect to re-open. Looking in the window there’s no sign of anything like that. Tables are set, all glassware in place, etc. Makes me think the owner might’ve died or the business hit some other major cataclysm. No sign of a fire.

That’s when it hit me; we’d seen, read, and commented on that sign a couple weeks ago after our last fancy prix fixe meal which was in the same set of little storefronts. Oops. And of course OpenTable had no idea they were shut down and had happily issued me a reservation. Having spots available short notice midweek at this time of year was not surprising, so did not arouse my suspicion.

Anyhow, after a brief aw shucks and another “no; after you” debate off we wander to another nearby place with a great happy hour that runs late enough we made it under the wire. Yaay us. I have 4 very flavorful raw oysters and a Caesar salad w a big slab of anchovy, Her Ladyship has the two-slider app. Plus drinks. We walk home in the last of the fading twilight. All is well.

Now I’m balconatin’ & caffinatin’. Started about 30 minutes pre-dawn and it’s now 30 post-dawn. Breezy, overcast, and except for the temp of 83/28 becoming 87/31 it could pass for Boofae’s epic report from earlier today:

I’ve set up for my RSV vax later today while Her Ladyship has a hair appointment. Such is the humpday excitement at Casa LSL.

As the weather moderates here and the snowbirds begin to arrive, the theater season and the concert season and festival season and all that stuff gets underway. Which we hope to do more of; we’ve kind of turned into homebodies waiting for the other to get off their ass and suggest something. Which we had a talk about and will be endeavoring to break that habit. Which should reduce my excessive amount of SDMBing and MMPing. So if you notice me being more sporadic, don’t take it personally: it’s not you, it’s me.

I’ve got 3 loaves of 'nanner bread in the oven - the recipe supposedly makes 4 loaves, but one pan is bigger than the other 2, so there ya go. Tobias is here eating the last 'nanner and watching Bluey. I think he and I will go to the thrift store when it opens, just because.

Thus will be my exciting day.

If you got smaller pans, the same recipe would make 6 loaves. You could save a lot of money on food that way!

Like the old joke:

Shoe: Would you like your pizza cut into 6 or 8 slices?
Pizza customer: Six please; I could never eat 8 slices.

Morning all. Woke at 5am when I rolled over and inadvertently turned the TV on by pressing the remote control, but was able to shut it off and get another couple of hours sleep. Not much on the schedule today, Swimming and sauna and maybe get a little cash from the bank, but otherwise should be fairly slothful. 74F now heading again to the high 80’s and not a drop of water in the skies. What is this Fall Season and when does it arrive?

nellie, hope today is better.

Sari. sounds like he expects all the other dogs to have the same manners as those at the Kennel Club shows; ain’t happening and he ought to know that by now. Hope the gradual move keeps going well. And I’ve never had a Drs. Office tell me to show 30 minutes early-10-15 yeah, for paperwork and such, but sounds a bit anal, IMHO. And it is a cat’s mission in the Great Universe to piss people off.

Boofae, enjoy striking.

FCM, wonderful story. And yeah, no bubble burst, I’ve always figured there is a team of 3-4 folks whose only job is to run a flag up the flagpole, time it for about 10 seconds, then run it down and fasten another one to it, or maybe it has been turned over to robots now…

Pilot, getting out and absorbing some culture is a good excuse for posting less…but don’t forget us.

OK, Instant Breakfast has been consumer so I need to finish the morning internetting and be about the day. Take care all.

I put the (small) pot roast into the slow-cooker about half an hour ago. It’s the first time I’m making pot roast in a slow-cooker. I’ve always used the oven. I got the meat from the Buy It Before It Rots bin. The first roast I picked off the regular shelf was about four and a half pounds and cost $38 or so. The BIBIR meat is a bit over two pounds and was $13. The sell-by date was Monday, but the meat drawer in the fridge is very cold. I’m sure this thing will be done well before ‘dinner’ time, but it will keep hot in the pot. (Why does SWMBO insist on eating ‘dinner’ between 16:00 and 17:00? I’d prefer to eat two hours later.)

What’s so absorbing, Junior?

Panamanian Vince is still out, and they took Big Mike elsewhere, so it was me, Sloth, and Shaggy. Dear God. The boy is slow dumping, and when a loose shock absorber came down the belt, he just grabbed it, stopped working, and was staring at it slack jawed. Then later on, he had a phone call, so he pretty much stopped working, and chatted for a bit. This was after yesterday, where he

  • beaned me in the head with a bag of bags
  • ran over my phone with the bag rack
  • this exchange:
Me: “Shaggy, had me the crayon on top of that conduit by your head.”
    Shaggy: “huh?”
    Me: “Crayon. Behind you.”
    S: “whazzat?”
    Me: “CRAY. ON.”
s: “This?”< points at old label stuck to conduit >
me: < walks over, grabs crayon > Crayon. Did you not have Crayolas as a kid?
This is the sperm that won

When I got home, and was in my room, Spot went into the bathroom and started yowling. Apparently even pampered house cats can have existential crisies.

If the phone doesn’t ring, it’s me - Jimmy Buffett.

Did some leg exercises yesterday, then paid for it last night and this morning with muscle soreness. No Costco trip today, but probably tomorrow.

Set up appointments for the latest COVID stab for next week.

Finished the crossword puzzles, so that’s my day’s activity, other than making breakfast and feeding the cat.

I laid out of irk today because Nelson horked a couple of more times last night, poor baby. We just got back from the vet, where they drew blood and took the sample that I took in for them. They had the bacterial test back before we left, and Doc said that there was nothing unusual about it and they would call me when the blood work came in. He’s still off his feed, so I’m going to make some fresh chicken and rice for him. His weight was down a half a pound, which is quite a bit, considering his size. He’s been a lap baby all day and slept on my chest pretty much last night.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

My property mngmt. co. is a buncha slackers. I put in a maintenance request a month anna half ago because the exterior light on my side steps was out. As I get home late, this was becoming a safety hazard.

I’d started calling them about every week or so, to - politely - hassle enquire when the fuck they were gonna get around to it.

Couple days ago I did same, but through their app vs. the old-fashioned way by phone, and today a pair of electricians replaced the entire gizmo with a floodlight.

We’ll see after work tonight how it looks in the darkness. For now, Monkey is cautiously investigating the area where they were working, and I have a small load tumblin’ away in the warshin’ box, so’s I don’t feel like a complete slacker m’self.

Only one post in the last 4 hours? Buncha slackers! :stuck_out_tongue:

The vet’s office called. Nelson’s issue is a rotovirus, likely from another dog, either the neighbors’ or at the dog park. He is beginning to eat some chicken and rice though, and hasn’t horked for about 12 hours. Thank goodness. I hate to have my pupper sick.

Afternoon all. Swimming and Sauna are complete, was going to cash a check but as I got in line at the drive through I looked and realized I hadn’t brought the check with me…dumbth…ah well, there’s always tomorrow.

The noisy disposal unit finally gave up the ghost, so either I will have to try and replace it myself or pay someone to do so; and given my utter lack of skills in that department and with all the bending and stooping I’d have to do, probably being calling the Handyman folks.

red, hope the Vet can treat Nelson. And just catching up, at least you know what it is and can hopefully treat it.

shoe, guess everyone has become app-conscious, phone numbers just don’t seem to make a difference anymore.

Onward into the day. Excelsior!!

3.1 miles in 58 minutes. Pretty good.

It’s turning out to be a little busy today. We have a company that wants to report their commercial accounts receivable… only, they want to load it to a credit reporting agency we don’t have a relationship with. Now I’m emailing back-and-forth with the company’s parent company, and trying to find out how much we’d be paid for the data. Interestingly, the person says that 99% of the companies in his industry use this other reporting agency. Might be worth pursuing. And I’ve been contacted by a company (in the same industry as the other guy) who’d interested in becoming a Member of our organisation and reporting their commercial accounts receivable to the usual Big Credit Reporting Companies.

The pot roast smells good. Just had a hatch chile-and-provolone burger for lunch.

I am in possession of the winning Powerball ticket. Or at least it will be after tonight’s drawing. But don’t worry - I’ll still be your friend.

Tobias has been returned to his mom. I’ve had a big salad for supper since FCD didn’t want anything. Chillage is about to begin.

Work wasn’t super busy yesterday, but whenever I had downtime I seemed to always have something to do other than post here: I made COVID + flu shot appointments for this coming Monday, I made a lab appointment for two months from today, and I went through my recent credit card statement to figure out when each recurring charge tends to hit and then switched iTunes, PayPal, and Google Play to temporarily use my debit card because charges via those accounts are expected this week. Right after work I went to the gym for a personal training session, and as soon as I got home I joined a volunteer-related Zoom meeting while I ate some dinner. When the meeting ended at 8:30pm I took a shower, then watched an episode of The Wire before going to bed. I also changed the Band-Aids on my big toes (the owies from Saturday’s new shoes): I hadn’t touched the bandages in two days because I’m a wuss about pain, but after going through a workout and a shower I figured they needed to be changed. Both wounds are still open, but at least they aren’t weeping anymore. Starting today I’ll change the Band-Aids every evening (I have the ones that are pre-Neosporined).

This evening I have another volunteer-related Zoom meeting at 7pm, but it’s for the committee I chair and I intend to keep it short. There’s one last Yankees game of the season on Amazon Prime tonight (7:05pm start), and I should be able to watch it when the meeting is over. No big loss if I can’t, because we sucked this year, but I think the only way I’ll be able to watch any post-season games is if they’re on Fox so I’d like to watch a little :baseball: while I can.

Time to eat some dinner and watch a little TV before my Zoom meeting…

Yes! *high five* (except that I never eat sausage dogs)

And, mustard is the only thing I put on hot dogs.

I take back my high five: agreed that ketchup never goes on hot dogs, but I do so love it (with mayo and pickles) on burgers.

Nice!

I second doggio’s request to see a photo when you get it back from the framer.

Apologies if you’ve 'splained this before and I missed it: what does “LSL” stand for?

Yay!!

Have I mentioned lately how pretty you are? And nice, dammit?

metal mouse Garbage disposal really is easy to replace. The worst part is the getting under the sink to do it. If’n bending and stretching aren’t your thing, yeah, hire somebody.

Sorry Mooom I’ve got the winning ticket! Y’all can come on boat cruises on Cayuga Lake next summer.

Descent day in the shop, I’ll need to make a delivery soon, I finished a bunch of things. But frustrating drawing. Boats are difficult to draw.

I’m not ready for this getting dark early crap. It’ll be dark by 6:30.

That’s tonight? How often do they draw?

I suppose I should go down to the corner market and buy a ticket. I need a jalapeño and some cilantro anyway.
